Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Does This Count as a Superpower?
In the outskirts of South City, in a direction far removed from Sato Yamiru's modest home, lay a school that could be considered neither too big nor too small. This was South Academy for Supernatural Abilities.
Decades ago, the South City government collaborated with global conglomerates—including the renowned Capsule Corporation—to build this unique institution in the suburban area. The school was designed to provide free education to individuals who possessed supernatural abilities.
Some speculated that the establishment of this academy was prompted by research papers published by numerous experts at the time. These papers pointed out that individuals from animal-like or monster-like species exhibited a much higher probability of mutating and developing supernatural abilities. Thus, the government, in an effort to mitigate the potential societal disturbances caused by such individuals, decided to confine and educate them within a specialized campus.
However, as time passed, the student body expanded to include not just animal and monster-type humans but also ordinary Earthlings. This unexpected mix helped to alleviate some of the societal biases against animal and monster people.
Another theory posited that the school's original name was Center for Research on Supernatural Abilities and Practitioners. It was suggested that the high-tech research teams, funded by Capsule Corporation and other leading tech conglomerates, had collaborated with the kingdom's government to construct this facility in South Earth's most prominent hub for supernatural abilities and magic.

"Data! I need data! Get everything ready now!"
Inside an inconspicuous building at the heart of South Academy, a bald researcher in a white lab coat was yelling at the top of his lungs.
"The Capsule Corporation's CEO is coming for an inspection tomorrow! If we fail to present solid data, we're all getting fired!"
"Comparison data for different types of supernatural abilities!"
"Data on the correlation between supernatural abilities and magic, experimental records included!"
"Documentation on the non-teachability of supernatural abilities versus the learnability of magic! Get everything properly organized!"
"Doctor Brief's IQ in a single strand of hair surpasses the combined intelligence of everyone here, so don't even think about cutting corners or bluffing your way through this!"
"Overtime! If things aren't done, you're all pulling an all-nighter!"
The bald researcher, clearly overwhelmed, continued to bark orders at his subordinates as they scurried around, scrambling to meet the impossible deadline.

Meanwhile, at the entrance to the building, the academy's principal hesitated. He had come to check on their progress but quickly decided against it, pulling back with a nervous gulp.
The principal was an animal person with a panda-like head, a round face, and an even rounder belly. His demeanor radiated kindness, and he was universally regarded as a gentle and refined figure by the school's staff and students alike.
"Doctor Brief's reputation truly precedes him," the principal muttered to himself. The thought of receiving the school's most important sponsor for an inspection tomorrow left him more than a little uneasy.
Not long after, the principal and his secretary left the research building.
"Damn it, why does Brief have to show up now of all times..."
In the bushes near the experimental building, a few sneaky figures emerged.
They were a mixed group: some were pure-blooded humans, others were animal people, and one was a monster person with sharp fangs and a menacing face. The only thing they had in common was the red bowtie-like emblem embroidered on their chests, with the letters "R" on either side. They were unmistakably members of the infamous Red Ribbon Army.
The leader of the group sighed in frustration. "Security's gotten way tighter all of a sudden. Guards have been stationed all over the school and inside the research building. Without bringing any of the top fighters from the army, there's no way we're getting out with a few superpowered individuals this time."
"Nothing we can do about it; just bad luck," another member replied. "But at least we've already secured one. That guy's one of the academy's best students."
"Exactly. His powers are impressive, and he's eager to join the army. He might even rise to the rank of general someday," someone else added.
Thinking about the recruit they had already secured, the leader allowed himself a small smile. "Alright, let's go find Blue. He's been stalling, and I think he's still on the fence. Let's see if we can convince him to commit."
The group skulked towards the dormitory area of the academy.
---
The dormitory was bustling with life. Everywhere they looked, there were animal and monster people of all shapes and sizes, many of whom possessed bizarre and unique supernatural abilities. Mixed among them were ordinary-looking pure-blooded humans.
"If we could recruit all of these people into the army..." the Red Ribbon leader muttered, his eyes gleaming with greed as he scanned the superpowered individuals milling about.
The group made their way to the dorm where Blue resided.
Outside his room, they overheard a heated conversation taking place inside.
"Big Bro, you don't understand! That guy is so arrogant, I'm furious!" A rough voice boomed from within. From the leader's experience, such a voice likely belonged to an animal person.
"You're just too weak. If someone taught you a lesson, it's on you. Don't come whining to me about it," replied another voice, this one soft and effeminate, dripping with disdain. "And take your filthy feet off my carpet. If you make me replace it again, I'll have you replace one of your legs instead."
"Big Bro, you're joking..." the rough-voiced animal person chuckled awkwardly. After a brief pause, he exclaimed indignantly, "But Big Bro, what angers me most isn't that I got beaten. That guy looks down on superpowered individuals! He can look down on me all he wants, I'm no match for him. But when I told him that my Big Bro's powers were far greater than mine, he still scoffed and said, 'Bring your Big Bro here, and I'll take him down too!' Big Bro, how could I not be mad?"
"He really said that?" the effeminate man's voice rose, laced with anger.
"Absolutely!"
"It's one thing to disrespect you, but to look down on me as well? Even without my powers, I could crush him with one hand!"
"Big Bro, you could crush him with both hands tied behind your back!"
"That's just ridiculous. I can't exactly beat him with my tongue, can I? Just the thought of it makes me sick! Get out of here, you're already polluting the air in my room."
"Big bro… so, when are you planning to deal with that guy?"
"Where's his photo? Don't tell me he tore it up."
"No, I kept a backup…"
The Red Ribbon Army members eavesdropped outside for a while until they finally heard the people inside leave. The door opened, and out walked a leopard-headed beastman wearing a tank top and shorts. He had a mix of frustration and smug excitement on his face as he strolled away.
The Red Ribbon leader motioned for his men to stay put, then quietly slipped into the dorm room.
Inside, a tall, muscular, and strikingly handsome young man with short golden hair stood shirtless, admiring his reflection in a full-length mirror as he flexed his muscles.
"Blue," the Red Ribbon leader called out.
"It's you. Why are you here again?" Blue, the golden-haired boy, turned around with a scowl. "I've already told you I'll join your group. I'm not the type to go back on my word."
"Heh, we're just here to remind you that the sooner you join the army, the better it'll be for you…"
Blue frowned. "Why the rush? Once I leave, who knows when I'll be able to return? Just leave already. If the academy finds out you're here, none of you will make it out. The Capsule Corporation has people hanging around the school these days. If you're not careful, you'll all get wiped out right here."
The leader forced a smile. "That's not possible. A giant like Capsule Corporation never meddles in our affairs with the government…"
Despite his confident words, the leader quickly left with his subordinates, slipping out of the school grounds.
In the dorm room, Blue pulled out a photo the leopard-headed beastman had given him. Staring at the boy in the picture, a gleam of excitement flashed in his eyes. Stroking his chin, he smirked. "I thought I'd leave this place without finding a satisfying prey, but who would've thought… I actually did. Heh…"

Meanwhile, in another part of South City's outskirts, Sato Yamiru had no idea someone had already set their sights on him.
That evening, he didn't go to his part-time job. Instead, he stayed home, grilling the pig-headed Tonpa with questions about the so-called Superpower Academy.
"So it's actually a school funded by Capsule Corporation…"
Yamiru found this fascinating. In the Dragon Ball manga, Capsule Corporation wasn't elaborated on much beyond Bulma's family being the richest on Earth. But now, hearing there was a school connected to the corporation so close by sparked his curiosity.
"Superpowers… Hey, do you think my extraordinary physical strength could count as a superpower?" he asked the pig-headed man.
