Su Yu had never imagined that for his first soul ring, he would seek out fierce beast soul rings or pursue a second martial soul.
While this would indeed be a miraculous opportunity, it was also unrealistic.
Su Yu was the type to approach things more rationally; he wouldn't set impractical goals. With his already exceptional talent and potential for rising, wouldn't it be wiser to proceed cautiously?
"Moreover, the key point is, since Tang San was able to change soul rings later on, why can't I?"
If Tang San could sacrifice his soul rings and then exchange them for higher-age soul rings, why couldn't he?
Whether or not he could find a divine inheritance and enhance the original soul ring's age through divine trials was uncertain, but the idea of changing soul rings was feasible and within his control.
Su Yu's greatest reliance was his extraordinary talent; he was confident he could develop a similar method.
Currently, he certainly didn't have any gold soul coins.
However, it was still necessary to gather some information.
Qian Tong weighed a silver soul coin in his hand.
"This Soul Hunting Certificate can be issued by our Wanhu Building, but we can't just give it away for free."
"How much?" Su Yu asked directly, without hesitation.
"Straightforward!" Qian Tong praised, saying, "Ten gold soul coins."
"I don't have any money. Are there any alternatives to obtain it?"
Qian Tong didn't seem surprised; after all, in the year that had passed, Su Yu hadn't registered for any life services and had to buy and prepare his own meals. From this alone, Qian Tong could infer quite a bit about him.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, sizing up Su Yu.
"Have you reached level ten in soul power?"
Su Yu's soul power aura was not very precise. Qian Tong could sense its strength, but without exact measurements, he couldn't tell the specific level.
However, since Su Yu was inquiring about the Soul Hunting Certificate, it was highly likely that he had broken through to level ten.
A year ago, when they first met, Su Yu had only been at level three!
"That's right!"
Su Yu didn't hide it.
Qian Tong's eyes flickered, as if he were weighing something in his mind.
"Here's the deal: I'll give you a certificate for free, as my personal investment in you."
He liked money and would try to meet customers' needs, but he preferred to invest.
Su Yu was clearly someone worth investing in.
"Thank you, Boss Qian, for the Soul Hunting Certificate."
Qian Tong was momentarily taken aback, then he sighed with a wry smile.
It seemed this kid had come simply to get something for nothing. Well, it wasn't exactly for nothing; it was more a case of mutual benefit.
"Have you identified your targets? Do you need me to send someone to help you hunt soul beasts?"
Su Yu initially planned to decline.
But after thinking it over, since he had already gotten the certificate for free, he might as well accept the help too.
"Then thank you."
After receiving the certificate, Su Yu headed straight for the Soul Hunting Forest.
"Name?"
"Su Yu."
"Level of soul power?"
"Level ten."
"Certificate?"
"Here."
After checking Su Yu's Soul Hunting Certificate, the soldier on guard did not continue to obstruct him and let Su Yu and his companions pass.
The two soul masters Qian Tong found for Su Yu were both great soul masters, each possessing the Heavenly Star Vine and Flame Sword martial souls.
One specialized in control, while the other focused on strong attacks, and the fire-type martial soul was particularly effective against the plant-type soul beasts that Su Yu needed.
"Brother Zhao, the soul beasts I need are all plant-type soul beasts, and the Star Spirit Vine may appear in these locations."
Su Yu was well-prepared, spreading out the map of the Soul Hunting Forest and pointing to several areas.
"As for the Dragon Scale Vine, it is likely to appear in these spots."
The Dragon Scale Vine is a vine-type soul beast that mutated by absorbing dragon blood, so it was most likely to be found near dragon-type soul beasts.
Within the Soul Hunting Forest, there were no true dragons, nor even sub-dragons, but there were a few soul beasts that contained thin traces of dragon bloodlines.
Su Yu was pointing to several of those locations.
"We'll head in this direction; I've heard there are reports of Star Spirit Vines in this area," Zhao Lei said, indicating a direction.
"Then let's follow Brother Zhao's lead and search in that direction."
Zhao Lei was a soul master with a Flame Sword martial soul, while the other soul master, named Zhang Yuan, possessed the Heavenly Star Vine.
"Coincidentally, when I was searching for a soul ring, I seemed to have heard of the Star Spirit Vine's whereabouts in this region," Zhang Yuan added, showing his agreement.
He circled an area on the map, which was precisely where Su Yu and the others planned to go.
"It looks like your quest for a soul ring will go quite smoothly," Zhang Yuan remarked.
Out of the three targets, two had leads.
The trio set out.
The Soul Hunting Forest had soul masters hunting soul beasts for soul rings throughout the year, but the environment remained natural and primal, requiring them to forge their own path.
If a few days passed without other soul masters passing through, this path might become overgrown once again.
Su Yu and his companions cut through the underbrush and finally spotted their target.
"Dragon Scale Vine, it seems you won't be able to absorb it," Su Yu said.
The Dragon Scale Vine, upon reaching every hundred years, would develop blood-red scales at its roots.
Before them stood a Dragon Scale Vine with nine exposed blood-colored scales.
It had at least nine hundred years of cultivation.
"Let's keep searching," Zhao Lei suggested.
Both Zhao Lei and Zhang Yuan were level 28 great soul masters, and their imposing soul power aura kept the Dragon Scale Vine from attacking them.
Both sides kept their distance from one another.
If Su Yu had come alone, the situation would certainly have been different.
The three of them searched the Soul Hunting Forest for a full three days.
On the first day, they had good luck and stumbled upon the Dragon Scale Vine, only to find it had nine hundred years of cultivation.
They had to give up on this Dragon Scale Vine and continue their search.
Over the next three days, the trio found nothing.
"Star Spirit Vine!"
Zhang Yuan's voice caught Su Yu's attention. Following Zhang Yuan's gaze, he saw a vine shimmering with a hazy starlight through the dense tree shadows.
"Your luck is really impressive! I also wanted to find a Star Spirit Vine for my soul ring back in the day, but I could never find one," Zhang Yuan lamented.
Su Yu didn't get overly excited; he remained calm and said, "Let's check its age first. If it's not suitable, we'll have to pass."
"Right, let's check the age first."
With that, Zhao Lei summoned his martial soul, the Flame Sword, with one white and one yellow soul ring floating around him.
As the three of them approached, the tangled Star Spirit Vine came into view.
The Star Spirit Vine's tendrils were complex, but with careful observation, they found one that was notably thicker and bore a star pattern on top.
"From its star markings, it seems to have just surpassed four hundred years!"
Zhang Yuan, having studied the Star Spirit Vine, quickly identified its age.
"The upper limit for a first soul ring is about four hundred years. This one, just over four hundred years old, can be considered the perfect first soul ring!"
Zhang Yuan expressed his envy once again.
Su Yu immediately decided to take this Star Spirit Vine as his first soul ring!
"Brothers, I'll be relying on you both from here on out."
"No problem. A mere four-hundred-year Star Spirit Vine is easy to hunt. Stay back; you don't want to get caught in the crossfire," Zhao Lei warned Su Yu to keep his distance from the battle and to approach only when it was time to collect.
Su Yu didn't push himself; he stood back while gripping a dagger in his hand.
He didn't take out his soul tool.
After all, it's best not to flaunt one's wealth.
This dagger was sharp enough for the task at hand.
The battle lasted only three minutes. Following Zhao Lei's reminder, Su Yu plunged the dagger into the core of the Star Spirit Vine.
A circle of sparkling yellow soul rings floated out from the corpse of the Star Spirit Vine, hovering in the air.
