Diary of an Adventuring Vampire

Side Story — The Great Spirit

Side Story — The Great Spirit

[New Character’s POV]

Mine name is Vadina, Great Spirit of Ice. Some wouldst calleth me a ghost, others a lost soul. Perchance even a banshee. But I am none of those. I have no memories of ever living another life. I simply came to be one day.

I have spent countless years wandering the world. I saw kingdoms rise. I saw kingdoms fall. None of it mattered really. Until I met her. It was, perhaps, 120 years ago? I know not. To count time is pointless. Perhaps she knows.

Upon our first encounter, she wast not afraid of me. At first, I thought she couldst not see me, like the majority of people.

“Are you a ghost?”

“Thou canst see me?”

“I can see all spirits… this is my first time meeting a ghost though!”

“I am not a ghost. Mine name is Vadina, Great Spirit of Ice. Boweth before me, pitiful mortal.”

This elf… does she not know to respecteth spirits?

“Oh… Sorry about that! A great ice spirit, huh? This is my first time meeting a great spirit!”

…

This girl is unfazed by mine intimidation? How…?

“So, do you wanna be friends?”

“…Friends? Thou meanst a contract?”

“No, silly! Friends! You know, like equals or something! I don’t really know how to explain friends…”

And thus was mine first encounter with her. Somehow, we wouldst end up meeting several times over the next few years. I supposeth during this time we really did becometh “friends”.

“Vadina! I found you again!”

“It is not like I am trying to hideth…?”

“I know! I became an adventurer today! I thought to tell you since I’ll be leaving home soon.”

What iseth this? She is leaving? Thou canst not! Ah… but it wouldst make her sad if I wert to stop her…

“I shalt go with thee.”

“Eh? But I thought you were happy here?”

“I want to goeth with thee. I shalt form a contract with thee.”

“But then we wouldn’t be friends!”

“Foolish child. Thou thought that there wast only one type of contract?”

“Oh… but you would scare everyone!”

“I am a spirit. Thou shouldst know that I can hideth within thy body.”

“Also, why is a contract necessary?”

“For if thou hath not formed a contract, thou shalt beest weak. I musteth protect thee. And, thou canst learn spirit magic. If I maketh this contract properly, it wouldst not be different from this current time.”

“Let’s do it then!”

And that wast how I became contracted. She hath made few friends, so it is good I went with her. We canst talk in silent times.

I hadst to take care of some knaves encroaching on mine territory. I wished to findeth some materials on contract magic too; however, the search wast fruitless. Now, I have returned. It seemeth she has finally found a friend other than me. Her friend feeleth odd, but, I canst not sense ill intentions.

Her friend’s presence remindeth me of the warmth of a time long past… a time when they walked upon this world…

For now, I shalt watcheth her sleep. I taketh the form of a crane, and perch upon the rocks.

Bonus :D Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the broken fake archaic English. I decided to go with, “follow the rules if you can find them easily, otherwise whatever sounds right.” I think it worked out. Probably.
