Chapter 27: Chapter 27
[1st POV]
I woke up closer to noon the next day from Pamela's call.
She informed me that she would be delayed for another week and warned me not to look at other women, or else she would feed them to her "children."
What a kind woman I have.
I would have been threatened with being castrated by someone else.
She's pure gold.
After that, I got to work "developing" my new chakra.
The instructions talked about meditation and connecting my imagination to the development and manipulation of chakra.
I sat in a lotus position and tried to detach myself from the world, focusing on sensing the core inside me.
After about an hour or maybe longer, I felt a small ball of warmth.
I mentally commanded this thin stream of energy to flow from inside me to my hands, enveloping them completely.
I suppose this progress was thanks to the System. Otherwise, I doubt I would have been able to utilize it so quickly.
I had a small amount of chakra, and it later dawned on me why my chakra reserve was ninety-three.
The arithmetic average of my Yin and Yang components was physical strength, such as strength, agility, and endurance, and spiritual power, such as intuition and intelligence.
I needed to raise my chakra level, and increasing my control would also help.
This way, I wouldn't waste energy on unnecessary actions.
After the first minute of manipulating the chakra that surrounded my palms, I received notifications from the System:
[+5 Chakra]
[+1 Chakra Control]
[You have received a new skill Chakra Manipulation - Level 1]
This was good news.
It would have been even better if I hadn't already spent over seventy chakra points on my "research."
However, my chakra regeneration was at one point every thirty seconds, so I would be back to normal soon.
After forty minutes, I resumed my training and tried to be careful.
I didn't want to damage my chakra control especially since there were no great sensei like Tsunade here.
It seemed like nobody had even heard of chakra here.
I continued channeling the chakra through my hands, doing it several times.
At first, they glowed with a blue light, but they became completely enveloped in blue on the last attempt.
At that moment, I received another notification.
[+5 Chakra]
[+1 Chakra Control]
[+1 Chakra Manipulation]
After an hour of break, I tried a third session, but I felt a slight tingling in my hands and startled, I stopped my experiments.
I prepared something to eat with trembling hands and then underwent a series of agility and strength exercises.
I did a bit of boxing and then took the medication that Pamela had given to me.
I still had about a month of this treatment ahead of me, but after just a couple of hours, I could already tell it was having an effect.
[+1 Health]
[+1 Strength]
[+1 Agility]
Finally, it started working, and I was pleased. I decided to get some sleep, as I was quite tired after that day.
My last thoughts before falling asleep were about how I needed to buy a house.
Now that I had a bit more money, I also wanted a car, but that could wait until later...
...
After another shift at work, we work again for two days.
To our surprise and even concern, there was complete silence, and no petty robberies were reported.
This made us quite uneasy.
At the end of the first night of patrolling, Arthur frowned and remarked that this wasn't a good sign...
However, I didn't just stand around during those two days. I focused on improving my ability to manipulate chakra.
I infused my muscles and tried to enhance my entire body with chakra. I knew I would need this strength in the future.
By the evening of the second day, I had gained five more levels in "Chakra Manipulation," which added five to my control and increased my chakra by twenty-five.
However, stats like health, strength, or any others didn't increase.
"Emergency, emergency! There is a bank robbery in progress at the corner of 9th and Mayton Street. All patrols in the area, respond to the scene!"
"Well, here comes the trouble."
Arthur grimaced.
Rick and I exchanged glances, sensing that something was brewing.
We arrived at the scene quickly and saw that the doors had been frozen and their lock had been kicked off.
"Please, not the freaks."
Rick whimpered.
"Keep dreaming."
I sighed wearily and moved forward, with Arthur and Ricardo following closely behind.
The room was also frozen in half inside, with security guards lying unconscious but alive.
Still, the reinforcements hadn't arrived. I could barely hear the sound of sirens far away; it seemed we wouldn't be alone for long.
However, there were no signs of the attacker yet.
"It looks like they got away!"
Arthur holstered his gun.
"Check the premises just in case and help the injured. I'll inform our team about everything and call for an ambulance."
"Okay."
Rick replied.
"Alright."
I echoed and walked into the east wing.
I checked door after door and found nothing but shelves of folders and technical rooms.
When I entered one of the offices, a blast of icy air immediately slammed me against the wall.
The entrance door closed behind me, leaving me alone with... a tall woman with bright blue eyes and a strange outfit that resembled a dark blue jumpsuit.
'Did I run into Killer Frost?'
[+1 Intuition]
She pressed an icicle against my throat and spoke in a deceptively soft voice...
"How many of you are there? And is Batman with you?"
"Why such rudeness? I'd love to answer your questions, but my current situation doesn't allow for a normal conversation. Can you thaw me out?"
She snickered.
"Tch! You won't be of any use to me. I hope you enjoy my kiss as a parting gift."
With that, she kissed me.
I considered pulling away, but I couldn't. Then I remembered I had the "Blessing of Aphrodite."
[+5% Cold Resistance]
[+2% to Frostbite Resistance]
After a few seconds, she pulled back, her expression one of extreme concern and surprise.
Then she gave me another passionate kiss, her brow wrinkled and her lips covered in frost.
However, I didn't resist and responded with all the passion I could muster.
After a minute, we were both out of breath, and she looked at me with a mixture of surprise and bewilderment as if she were facing an unknown animal rather than a cop frozen against the wall.
"Ding!"
[+5% Cold Resistance]
[+2% to Frostbite Resistance]
[+5% Affinity with the Wind element]
[+5% Affinity with the Water element]
I wouldn't mind if she kissed me again...
"I enjoyed that."
I said with a smile.
[+100 relationship with Killer Frost/Louise Lincoln]
"What the hell? You should have turned into an icicle! Are you a meta?"
"No, I'm Isaac! And what's your name, beautiful stranger?"
"Killer Frost."
She introduced herself, "How did you survive?"
"What?"
I feigned ignorance.
"Are you new to Gotham?"
She raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, why?"
"I see. It seems you don't know me, or you haven't heard. Well, I'll enlighten you. I'm one of the most ruthless metas in this city, maybe even in the country. So there's a VERY high chance I could kill you and your colleagues. Nevertheless, today you're lucky because I'm not in the mood to kill you. However, I do feel like taking out someone else. So you'll be my shield against the bullets aimed at your colleagues. We're leaving here together, and nobody will get hurt."
"Fine, I'll help you escape."
I wondered what she meant by wanting to take someone else out.
"Could you unstick me from the wall?"
At that moment, as if by a gust of wind, the ice that attached me to the wall shattered into tiny cubes.
However, my hands were still covered in ice, and she had molded them together like a pair of icy handcuffs.
"Hey! Isaac..."
Arthur started to say something as he turned to us from the wing where I had been, but he stopped and immediately drew his weapon.
"Let him go! Now!"
"No need to shout, officer."
Killer Frost grinned, "I'm leaving here... with this charming young man. He'll be my 'knight,' protecting me from the evil' dragons' in uniforms with guns. So if you don't want your newbie to die from frostbite and end up as snowman material, you'd better drop your guns on the floor and kick them towards me and your radios too."
Arthur, Rick, and three other cops who had been backup were at the bank's entrance.
They exchanged glances and dropped their weapons and radios to the ground, kicking them in our direction.
Killer Frost, or rather Louise Lincoln, immediately used her powers, and all those things were frozen solid.
I figured it was likely that once thawed, they would crumble from the stress of the freezing.
We cautiously exited the bank.
Frost had completely frozen the entrance, and she had also frozen one of the cars parked outside.
Fortunately, it wasn't ours.
I shuddered at the thought of navigating the bureaucratic nightmare of getting a new car.
Sometimes, I felt like the Joker was just a harmless clown compared to her.
I had spent less nerve-wracking time dealing with him than in the precinct.
She pushed me into the car and climbed in beside me, then unfroze my hands.
"Hm. I didn't freeze your hands too much, but you should at least have some redness from that temperature. Anyway, just drive straight, and I'll tell you where to turn, but no funny business."
She added, pressing her icicle against my neck as a reminder of her seriousness.
"Of course, of course. No need to worry."
I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
We drove quickly.
