Chapter 17: National City!
Two Days Later!
The flight to National City was uneventful. Kayn had opted for a private jet, courtesy of their business's funds. As the plane descended, he could see the sprawling cityscape below, a stark contrast to the secluded mountains they had called home.
The sun was setting, casting a warm orange glow over the buildings and streets.
Kayn adjusted his glasses and gathered his belongings, looking towards Violet, who had decided to live in National City alongside him.
Soren has stayed true to his words and went to Los Angeles. Mika had went to Japan, trying to learn more of her Kitsune origin.
Laura and Hakeem went to Paris, France. Damon, Kayle and Hugo went to Chicago.
Gwen, however, did not go to a particular City, instead moving in alongside Zatanna, hoping to learn more from her as an apprentice. Over the past 2 years, Kayn and Gwen had visited her a multitude of times, so they were quite friendly with her now.
The majority of the others all spread around cities in North America, Europe, with the occasional person in the Caribbean, Japan, South Korea or others.
As both of them stepped off the plane, they was greeted by Francis, the public face of their organization's company. Francis, dressed in a sharp suit, gave a respectful nod.
Francis stood with an air of quiet confidence, his appearance meticulously polished. His neatly styled hair was a deep chestnut brown, parted to the side in a classic, sophisticated look. His sharp blue eyes conveyed both intelligence and approachability, framed by a pair of stylish, thin-rimmed glasses that added to his polished appearance.
He was dressed impeccably in a tailored navy-blue suit that highlighted his slim, athletic build. The suit was paired with a crisp white dress shirt and a tasteful silver tie, completing his business-ready look. His shoes were black and shined to perfection, reflecting his attention to detail.
"Welcome to National City, Kayn," Francis said with a smile.
"Good to see you, Francis," Kayn replied, shaking his hand. "How are things here?"
"Everything's running smoothly. The headquarters is ready, and I've already purchased a residence for you and Violet here."
"Excellent. Let's head over there." Kayn responded with a nod.
The drive through National City was a sensory overload. The bustling streets, the skyscrapers, and the constant hum of activity were a far cry from the quiet mountains. Kayn felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. This city was vibrant and full of life, but it also meant stepping into the unknown.
They first arrived at the headquarters, a sleek, modern building that stood tall among its neighbors. Inside, the atmosphere was professional and efficient. All of the employees were normal humans Kayn had saved over the years and gotten adult identities for, who all chose to work here.
After inspecting the headquarters, Francis lead Kayn and Violet to their luxurious home, a luxurious manor.
The manor was nestled in the heart of a sprawling estate, it's grandeur immediately evident as one approached its firm gates, which when opened revealed a long, tree-lined driveway leading to the main entrance.
The exterior of the manor was a blend of classic and modern architecture, with towering columns and large windows that allowed natural light to flood the interior.
The front entrance was adorned with intricate carvings and a pair of imposing double doors, which opened into a beautiful foyer. The foyer featured a sweeping staircase with a beautifully crafted iron railing, leading to the upper floors.
A dazzling chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting a warm, inviting glow over the marble floors and exquisite artwork that decorated the walls.
To the left of the foyer, a spacious living room awaited, furnished with plush sofas and elegant coffee tables. The room boasted a grand piano and a fireplace framed by a marble mantelpiece, creating a perfect setting for both relaxation and entertainment.
The Manor also had many facilities, such as a state of the art Gym that can meet the needs of both normal humans, and help SuperHeroes to vent some frustration. There was also an indoor swimming pool, a luxurious garden and multiple bedrooms incase any guests came to stay.
The manor also boasted a private library, a home theater with plush seating, a game room complete with a pool table and arcade games and a work room decked out with state of the art advanced technology in case Kayn needed to work from home.
Overall, the luxurious manor was a masterpiece of design and comfort, offering an unparalleled living experience that blended modern amenities with timeless elegance.
"I hope this suits your needs for now," Francis said, handing Kayn the keys as they finished the tour of the luxurious manor they would be living at for the foreseeable future.
"It's perfect," Kayn replied, looking around. "Thank you, Francis."
"Anytime. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."
As Francis left, Kayn took a moment to soak in his new surroundings. The apartment was a blend of modern elegance and comfort. He could see the city lights twinkling in the distance, a constant reminder of the bustling world outside.
Kayn and Violet both split up, going to their respective rooms to unpacked their belongings and settle in. He retrieved the Magic Book of Merlin, which he had received from his system earlier that morning.
Sitting by the window, he began to leaf through its pages. The book was filled with intricate spells and ancient magic knowledge, a treasure trove of mystical arts.
He spent hours engrossed in the book, losing track of time. It wasn't until the first light of dawn began to filter through the window that he realized how long he'd been studying. With a satisfied sigh, he closed the book and decided to explore the city.
---
National City was alive with energy. Kayn wandered through its streets, taking in the sights and sounds. He visited local markets, parks, and cafes, blending in with the crowd. The anonymity was refreshing, a stark contrast to the constant vigilance of their hidden base.
As he walked, he thought about his team's future. They had all chosen different paths, different cities to explore and integrate into. But they remained connected, their bonds stronger than ever. The decision to spread out had been a wise one, allowing them to experience life beyond their secluded existence while continuing their mission.
~RING~RING!
As Kayn was busy exploring the City, his phone buzzed, pulling him back to reality, it was a message from Mika.
> "Hey Kayn! Just wanted to let you know I arrived in Tokyo. This city is amazing! Hope you're settling in well. Miss you!"
Kayn smiled and replied, "Glad to hear it, Mika. National City is pretty incredible too. Miss you all. Stay safe."
Then, Kayn decided to return to his house, relaxing as he stood on the balcony and gazed out over the sprawling Cityscape of National City as the lights twinkled like stars.
The soft hum of the city was a constant reminder of the new life he was about to begin, but his mind was far from the tranquil scene before him.
His thoughts were focused on the path ahead—a path that would require both subtlety and strength. Attending school in National City was part of his plan, a way to blend in, gather information, form connections and to just enjoy his life.
But beneath the surface, his true mission lay in dismantling the remnants of APEX and taking down a new threat: CADMUS.
CADMUS was an organization he knew alot of from Comics and DC Animated TV Shows, they were a popular villain, well known for the various terrible things they did over time.
Kayn knew they had deep ties in government, military and business sectors, as it would be impossible for them to become so powerful and influential without those allies.
Now, with everyone spread across the globe, they were poised to expand their influence even further. Kayn envisioned his organization growing, not just in size but in strength, with new members, resources, and connections that would make them unstoppable.
As he turned away from the cityscape and headed inside, Kayn felt a sense of determination settle over him. The future was uncertain, but one thing was clear: he would stop at nothing to achieve his goals, protect his team, and ensure that CADMUS fell, just as APEX had before.
