Arc 2: Learn, Adapt, Kill - Chapter 17
"So, you own many fallen worlds with eerie foul entities living in them." I read the paper made of some unknown materials that seemed to change the feel of the touch every few minutes. "Sorry, but Ruby doesn't need anything from those fallen worlds. Not at this early stage of her development. But I can put you on the pre-selected contract list for when she is ready."
The coffin-shaped Eldritch entity made of crow's heads let out a soundless shriek before disappearing to wherever it was before coming to this interview.
I stretch my muscles as the door on my right opens, Makima walking in with a mug.
"Isn't that about a hundred you had put in the pile of pre-selected contracts?" Makima smiled at me as she handed me a cup of coffee and glanced at the pile of pre-selected contracts for Ruby to choose from after I go through them before letting Ruby see them.
"It hasn't even been a day since our reunion and already the word is out about the new openings in Ruby's network." I rub the bridge of my eyebrows in exhaustion. "If it wasn't for my quick thinking to let people just come in person with their resumes, no interview questions, and limiting the number of people contacted per month. Let alone a hundred. I wouldn't be able to finish the ten candidates before the day was out. Just the amount of information on some of these resumes is crazy."
"You're lucky you don't serve over a million customers a day." Makima patted me on the head. "And that is through various methods to make it possible, and even then, those people would still be exhausted no matter what. Even as a powerful entity."
"Even those with Omnipotence?" I ask out of curiosity, dreading being an examiner on a multiverse scale. The thought alone made me relieved to be a caretaker.
"It depends on the decisions of the users of Omnipotence. You can be the strongest, but what you want to do is up to you." Makima replied. "They can easily handle millions and millions of customers in a single second, but if they don't want to, nothing can be done."
"Point taken." I drank the whole coffee in one go, using Boundary Manipulation to keep the hot coffee from burning my throat. "Well, that's over. Thanks for delaying entering one of the worlds under your control so that I could take care of preparing Ruby's network. What did you need my help with, Makina?"
"I need to get one of my pets." Makima replied. "I left it alone for a while, and then it wandered off on its own. It has been a while since I've seen my little pet. I can't find it, but I can feel its unique presence, and all I need is for you to take care of the natives who might get in our way of finding my pet."
"Must be an important pet for you to need me to help you find it." I raise an eyebrow at Makima.
Then again, I remember Makima in the Canon series having trouble finding the Chainsaw Devil until the canon began.
"Kind of." Makima smiles. "Come on, the others are waiting for us. I don't think those two can keep up with Shouko for long."
I sweatdrop, knowing exactly what Makima meant by that statement.
Sure enough, as I walk out of the temporary room I created through the Boundary Manipulation. I see Ruby and Weiss on the floor, bleeding from their noses as they stare at Shouko, giving her a confused look but in complete awe.
For all the crazy voices wondering what is causing Ruby and Weiss to be in such a state. It's because Shouko is very interested in Ruby and Weiss, causing her to unconsciously lose control of her existence and affect everything around her. This includes Ruby and Weiss being affected by Shouko's existence.
Funny enough, I think another condition of why Ruby and Weiss were chosen is that their existence is in a pre-development stage to reach the same level as Nyarla and the other's existence affects the reality around them.
Or at least I think so. Either way, Ruby and Weiss are bound to develop their unique method of causing death around them by their very existence, whether they do it on purpose or by subconscious choice.
Crazy voices, a theory that just came to me. What if, and I mean a big if, the subconscious of Ruby and Weiss is in the process of becoming an Eldritch ego? That could be why Nyarla and the others have alter egos based on their canon counterparts, as the subconscious becomes the new main consciousness or pushes the main consciousness into a secondary consciousness because of how powerful it is.
Although this theory could be wrong. Also, it seems that this whole existence isn't just an Eldritch pantheon thing. Good to know.
I haven't figured out what Makima's existence could do, but knowing her background. It could be related to control in some way.
I snap my fingers and use Boundary Manipulation to return Ruby and White to their original state. I also remove the temporary room behind me from this world, which is already being destroyed under Makima's command.
"Just out of curiosity, what kind of world are we going to?" I ask Makima. The next second, we are in another world after the one we were in before has disappeared. "Okay, modern style."
I spread En on a massive scale, then pause when I 'see' numerous familiar faces.
"I never gave it a name, but it was supposed to be based on a certain anime/manga/novel; that is what I was told when I showed it to my friends." Makima answered my question. "I can't remember what it was, but I left this world to develop on its own after leaving one of my pets here to protect it while it developed."
"I think I know what this world is based on." I said to Makima while I gave Shouko another pat on the head at her request. "Just one question. What made you want to create this world based on this anime/manga/novel?"
"It was a random game to see who could create a world the fastest in high school." Makima replied, then looked in the direction where a canon event was taking place. "I feel my pet's presence on one of the natives."
Again. What kind of high school is this?! A fucking random game to see who could create a world the fastest? What kind of bullshit games are being played in this high school?!
"All right, should I take us straight there, or should we walk?" I ask Makima, patting Ruby's head and then Weiss's head after noticing the pouty, jealous look that was directed my way.
"Take us there. I don't want to lose this chance to locate my pet." Makima answers, then before I could use Boundary Manipulation to teleport us. She moves in to kiss me on the lip for a second, then leans back with a smile. "Afterward, we can have sex."
Damn, Makima must be sexually frustrated with my absence and all. And oh shit, if Makima is horny, I can't imagine how Nyarla and the others feel right now.
Shouko leans into my right ear and whispers, "Me too.
A shiver runs down my spine as I feel Shouko's breath hitting my ear.
"I think we need to work harder if we don't want to be neglected, Weiss." Ruby whispers to Weiss, not understanding that she is too close to everyone and that it is impossible for anyone not to hear her.
They might as well not whisper at all if Ruby and Weiss couldn't reach the same level of whispering that Shouko could. Besides, Ruby might have forgotten that Makima and Shouko weren't normal girls. Hearing Ruby's whispering might as well be talking to them normally.
A snap of my fingers and we're standing in the middle of the schoolyard. For the record, it's the schoolyard of the Kuoh Academy. And we happen to be at the beginning of a battle scene in which the Khaos Brigade is attacking the Three Factions Peace Conference of the Christian religion.
"Jin, make everyone here unable to move." Makima ordered me while everyone else was too shocked by our unexpected arrival.
"Kneel." I channel the legacy of Noblesse's overwhelming power of Mind Control, causing my voice to be heard by everyone in the entire school area.
Everyone kneels, excluding our group, and those in the air are forcibly brought down to the ground with broken legs among them as they try to kneel like everyone else on the ground.
"Silence." I follow with another command to prevent unwanted screaming.
Taking her time, Makima slowly makes her way up to one of the people on their knees until she stops in front of Katerea Leviathan. One of the three leaders of the Old Satan Faction. She is also a descendant of the original Leviathan and killed herself in an attempt to kill Azazel.
Makima didn't say anything yet, instead she started to search Katerea's body and took out a small bottle containing a small purple-like snake, which she took out and threw in the air as the snake exploded to form a portal. A little girl comes out.
The little girl lands on the ground, then looks around with a look of confusion in her blank eyes before they widen slightly when she sees Makima.
"Master...!" The little girl runs over to Makima.
"Hello, Ophis. Did you have fun wandering around?" Makima rubs the top of Ophis' head gently.
What. The. Fuck. Makima's pet is Ophis?! As the Dragon God representing Infinity, Chaos, and Nothingness, known as the Ouroboros Dragon and the Infinite Dragon God?! Also known as one of the two strongest existences of High School DxD?!
"Ruby, before you say anything. Do not assume that this little girl is really a little girl. For all we know, it could be a very dangerous creature that just takes on the appearance of a little girl." Weiss narrowed her eyes. "A questionable outfit that makes me wonder who gave this little girl the idea to dress like that."
You and me both, Weiss. I still don't understand why Ophis put a bandage over her nipples.
"Hey, Jin. We're done here. So unless you want to wander around and check out the locals, we can go anytime." Makima walks back to us, Ophis now taking the form of a purple snake and hanging around Makima's neck like a scarf.
I stare at Makima before I look at the people around us. Most of them stare back with horror in their eyes.
I think that's a reasonable reaction, in my honest opinion, especially when you learn that one of the most powerful existences is actually a pet of someone much more powerful.
"Can I sacrifice all these people?" Ruby asks in a deadly serious voice, giving all the natives a look that deeply frightens them.
"Well, they are not that useful to me." Makima didn't even look at the natives and smiled at Ruby. "How about you give me a share of what you get for sacrificing them and I will let you have them?"
"DEAL!" Ruby shakes Makima's outstretched hand with a big smile on her face.
I pity the natives here.
