Chapter 527 - 528: 527: Flying to the Sky
Chapter 528: Chapter 527: Flying to the Sky
Bai Hongtu laughed loudly, earning himself a harsh beatdown as a result.
Ji Zhi stepped in to mediate, admonishing, “Go easy on him. Just because Bai Hongtu wrote a version of ‘The Biography of Emperor Jiang’ doesn’t mean you have to be so aggressive.”
Jiang Li paused, his gaze sharpening on Bai Hongtu.
“Damn you, revealing that secret!” Bai Hongtu raged.
While the three bickered in hushed tones offstage, Jade Hidden addressed the audience on stage with a frosty expression, welcoming all competing cultivators to the Tianyuan Emperor Dynasty.
“Because the Sect Master of Luban Sect is participating in the competition and to avoid any conflict of interest, the Luban Sect cannot send a representative to join the judging panel. Therefore, the Sect Master has invited me to serve as a judge for this competition.” Though her tone was detached and even icy, it was clear that Jade Hidden attached great importance to the competition.
Her frigidity was just a part of her temperament
The audience erupted in cheers. If Jade Hidden were to serve as a judge, they could potentially engage in a conversation with this top-tier powerhouse.
They believed that even a few words spoken in her presence, leaving a positive impression, could benefit them enormously.
“This competition will be conducted in three rounds on an elimination basis. Let’s begin with the first round.”
“Artifact Refining is an age-old craft, of which Da Zu stands on the peak. However, in recent years, the Artifact Refining Technique of Jiuzhou has stagnated without any sign of innovation.”
“To ensure the long-term development of Artifact Refining Technique, we need fresh ideas and leap out of old mindsets, we need Artifact Refiners’ novel ideas to extend the development of Artifact Refining Technique,” a representative of the Luban Sect introduced the theme of this competition.
“Legend has it that when the path to immortality was not entirely laid out yet, people yearned to ascend to the heavens or travel beneath the earth, which they thought was a sign of being an Immortal.”
“As the path to immortality unfolded, flying became an easily achievable feat — either through cultivation or traversing in a Flying Boat.”
“But all of these methods are fundamentally dependent on Spiritual Energy.”
“Previously, we did not think there was anything wrong with harnessing Spiritual Energy. Yet, in the world of Ming Zhong, we have witnessed a different route. They utilize various natural laws to build a myriad of miraculous machines to enable flight. If not for the abnormal gravity in the world of Ming Zhong, they would already be exploring the universe.”
“Consequently, the theme for the first round is ‘Aerial Travel’. Using Artifact Refining Technique, create a machine that does not require Spiritual Energy to operate and can allow a person to fly. The higher the puppet machine flies and the less material used, the higher your ranking.”
A representative of the Luban Sect pointed at a puppet and said, “Please note, this humanoid puppet is devoid of spiritual intelligence and is, in essence, a mortal. While the puppet is flying, it must not sustain any damage.”
“The competition will last for four hours. It begins now.”
With the rules in place, many Artifact Refiners showed distressed faces. They had spent a lifetime refining Spiritual Treasures that relied on Spiritual Energy. Now that they were being told not to use Spiritual Energy, they were at a loss.
However, more Artifact Refiners were excited. After the encounter between Jiuzhou and the world of Ming Zhong, the latter’s technology drew their interest, as it opened a new door for the Artifact Refining Technique.
They had been learning various scientific theories for a long time, and now was the time for practical application.
“Flying without using Spiritual Energy?” The Sect Master of Luban Sect was deep in thought. This was a problem posed by Jade Hidden, for which he had no prior preparation.
“In the world of Ming Zhong, I came across a machine known as a helicopter. It uses nuclear power for propulsion. This could be attempted.”
The Sect Master of Luban Sect had once scanned a helicopter with his Divine Sense, and its principle of operation had left him amazed.
Creating a helicopter was not a difficult task for him.
There was no better choice than a helicopter for safety and altitude.
“The higher it flies, the higher the rank? Then we must go to space.” Tang Ben, the head of Artifact Refinement Peak pondered. “In the world of zombies, there’s something called a spaceship that can fly into space.”
Building a spaceship wasn’t difficult for Tang Ben either.
“This round doesn’t require much expertise in refining techniques.” Jiang Li mused for a moment and felt that this round was not difficult.”
Jade Hidden silently observed the busy Artifact Refiners below the stage but didn’t comment.
…
The four hours passed quickly. The competition arena had been transformed, showcasing a variety of imaginative flying machines.
Jade Hidden rose and descended from the stage to examine the results. Her gourd sash swayed at her waist, signalling her presence.
“What is this thing?” Jade Hidden pointed at a scrape-board lying flat, similar to a pancake griddle.
“Your Majesty, this is called a Bamboo Dragonfly. It’s a flying device I created by combining technology from the world of Ming Zhong. The main issue is that it’s quite expensive.”
“Attach this to the puppet’s head and let’s see the results.”
As the Artifact Refiner fixed the Bamboo Dragonfly onto the puppet’s head, he explained its function.
“With a simple press of this button, the propeller spins and allows the puppet to fly.”
The Artifact Refiner pressed the button, causing the propeller to spin rapidly, and in turn, causing the puppet to rotate at high speed as well.
Then, with the Bamboo Dragonfly, the puppet’s head soared into the sky.”
“… Your Bamboo Dragonfly is quite a disaster.” The gourd sash sarcastically commented.
“There are no negative reviews, right?”
“Improvements will be made next time,” the Artifact Refiner quickly assured.
There was no doubt that this Artifact Refiner was eliminated.
“And what is this?” Jade Hidden noticed a heap of shards resembling armor next to a puppet.
“This is called the Aerial Armor.” A Luban Sect Elder was the contestant.
With a clap of his hands from the Luban Sect Elder, the shards of armor came to life and fastened themselves onto the puppet. In a blink of an eye, the puppet was fully armed, leaving no room exposed.
The puppet, clad in the Aerial Armor, made a round safely in the air and landed graciously.
Jade Hidden nodded and softly said, “Ezcellent.”
“This Aerial Armor is expensive and cannot be mass-produced.”
“The armor was designed for my wife, but there was one problem I couldn’t solve, preventing its completion.” The wife of the Axtracted from the sun, refined, and converted into a stable energy source to maintain the helicopter’s flight.”
The helicopter carried the puppet and ascended into the sky.
The cost of the helicopter was much cheaper than that of the Aerial Armor.
Next up was Tang Ben, head of the Artifact Refinement Peak, who showcased his creation, a spaceship, that took the puppet into space.
So far, the flying machine crafted by Tang Ben was reaching the highest altitude.
In terms of the lowest cost, it was an Artifact Refiner who had tied the puppet to a kite.
Jade Hidden then turned her attention to Ji Zhi.
Ji Zhi slowly pulled out a Remote Communication Talisman.
He said, “Hello, Feiyun Commerce Association? Can you send me a flying mystical creature, the cheapest one? I’ll pay in Spirit Stones upon delivery.”
