Ch: 139 [Mr. Sinister]
Back at the med bay, Madelyne broke out of the shield. Flames danced around her body. Phoenix had come out to play. Her eyes were blood-red and her body was bursting with energy. She ran a finger through her flaming hair and turned her attention toward us.
"Where am I?" She frowned.
"Paradise Island," I stood in front of Rogue and the others, "How about we talk like civilized beings?"
She paused for a moment and looked around the shattered building. She must have noticed the mutants around the island. No, I am sure she has already sensed them with her Phoenix Force. "Perhaps we should."
I used my power to create two chairs in that burning building and sat on one of them, gesturing for her to sit. She floated across and settled on the other one.
"Can I have your promise not to explode or burn things like that?" I pointed around.
"I... I apologize. Unknown surroundings, unknown people, and a blank mind. It got the better of me."
"Fair enough," I replied, "Tell me, do you remember anything?"
She paused for a minute, letting her guard down, "I am Madelyne. Beyond that, no, I have no memory." She stared at the flames in her hands, "There are powers within me, however, there's also a presence of another soul within my body. She is also confused about our situation. Perhaps, you could shed some light."
I turned around, "Dr. Ryez, clear the area. Give us some privacy." He quickly ushered the med staff to the side and gave us space. Rogue also left the scene. I flicked my finger, creating an energy dome around us, just in case someone might snoop.
"I will tell you the truth about yourself. But you have to remain calm even if you don't like the truth. You possess two souls: the original and the Phoenix Force. You are a clone of Jean Grey, the mutant who possesses the Phoenix. Mr. Sinister, a freaky scientist, used her DNA to create you. But for some reason, you might have escaped that facility before he could implant false memories."
"Clone..." her eyes narrowed and her hair went up in flames again.
"Don't. Calm down. I can understand how fearful and terrifying it is to wake up one day without any memories. Once I went through the same thing... I know it's not a very pleasant experience. Take deep breaths and gather yourself," I watched her closely, making sure her fiery personality didn't burst. After a few moments, the fire died out, and Madelyne returned to normal.
"Wow! A clone," She mumbled as she looked at her hands, "How did you cope up with that? You said you experienced the same thing... Are you a clone too?"
"Humm... That's a complicated question," I replied with a thoughtful expression. Should I reveal the truth about myself? No. Can't take the risk, "Let's say that there were two souls, one died while the other replaced it and took control of this body. As for my memories, I searched for the old ones, and created some new ones with the help of my family and friends."
Madelyne stared at me curiously, "Family... Friends... I am nothing but a clone. I have none of that."
"As I said before... Create your own memories. As for friends and family... Look around you, the mutants and metahumans here have either been abandoned by their families or left their loved ones in the fear of hurting them. Some are orphans while others are rescued from experimenting facilities. Some even lived their entire life without even knowing their name or birth."
I paused for a moment and continued, "There is this guy, Logan, an old friend. His situation is just like yours. You have a blank mind, and so does his... But he didn't give up. He created new memories, made new friends, and even dug up some remnants from his past, but never recovered his memories. And guess what, he is over a century old."
"Over a century?" she looked surprised.
"Yes," I nodded.
"Madelyne and Phoenix, you two will always have each other, but now..." I extended my hand toward her, "We will be your new family. So, don't be sad or afraid... We will be with you. And I promise, I will find Mr. Sinister and he will pay for doing such a horrible thing to you."
She stared at me and then took my hand. I felt a powerful surge of energy pass between us. My eyes glowed brightly for a few seconds, and her Phoenix Force also responded. Is our power resonating with each other?
"I am Brian," I shook her hand and introduced myself.
"Thank you... for showing me compassion, Brian," She gave me a weak smile, "And I am sorry for creating such a fuss."
"Ah! Claire. We call her Volcana here. Come, I will introduce her and others to you," I stood up and released the barrier around us. After fixing the place, we made our way toward Claire's apartment, followed by Rogue.
"I remember you. You are the one to rescue me," Madelyne said to Rogue.
"Please, don't mention it. We always help people in need. Plus, you are family," Rogue responded with a reassuring smile.
"Thank you, Rogue," She sounded sincere.
And so, a new addition joined the Paradise Family.
[Location: Unknown] [Mr. Sinister's lab] [Omnicent 3rd person POV]
"ARGGGG!!!" Sabretooth's roar echoed through the metallic room.
"Come on, I know you're tougher than that," The tall, slender figure leaned over a medical table and looked at the restrained man with an indifferent gaze. The tubes attached to Victor's body pumped a strange-looking liquid, keeping the mutant in a state of paralysis except for his head and senses.
Mr. Sinister took a scalpel and sliced open the mutant's chest.
"Be patient. This procedure might hurt a little. But I promise to make you one of my superior mutant creations," His calm, emotionless voice sounded just as chilling as the cold metal touch.
Victor's eyes rolled back into his head as the pain grew more unbearable. But even in the midst of agony, his body refused to die.
"Such a beautiful mutation. Healing, immunity against drugs and toxins, strength, sense of smell, ability to see infrared and ultraviolet spectrum, you can even see in the dark... What else are you hiding in this body of yours... I can't wait to dissemble you and put you together with even more superpowers."
After three hours of screaming, growling, and cursing, the procedure was finally over. But Victor wasn't Victor anymore. Only his dead body was lying on the table. Mr. Sinister took some parts from his body and placed them in glass containers filled with strange liquid. His heart, brain, blood, and various other vital parts were extracted and placed in storage for later use.
"Now, it's going to be fun putting you together again... But before that..." He shifted his attention toward the door where a snake-like shadow slithered out of the cracks and approached him. The creature hissed at him, and Mr. Sinister just smiled and grabbed it by its neck, "You've found her... Good job. You will be rewarded for your efforts. I will give you a new body."
Hisss! Hissss!
"What?! Brian found her before you?" He sounded surprised.
Hiisssss!
"Paradise Island. Argggg!" He squeezed the life out of the creature, making it screech in agony, "Useless... All useless... Invading that place is like declaring war on mutants and the strongest being out there. I need a plan... A plan to drive him out of that place..."
"How about the Children of the Clown? Those lunatics might be able to cause enough chaos for us to slip in and grab her," A robotic voice came from the ceiling, "You know we don't have much time until he awakens. And with the merge, things have slowed down more than we expected."
Mr. Sinister sighed, "Do it. In the meantime, I will create something to rival that freak of nature."
With a gust of wind, the shadowy creature disappeared from the ceiling.
