Chapter 16: +Chapter 16+
"Don't wear a lot of heels, Caspian?" Jael tossed over his shoulder, humor dancing in his voice.
"It's Cassia," He quickly corrected, making no comments about the jab at his pitiful attempts to walk in heels.
"Right," Jael muttered, saying nothing more.
He was yet to get around to investigating the Omega's background, having his hands full with Mafia King Nikolai.
He shot her a glance when her ankle rolled in the heels for the umpteenth time. Nikolai asking for her had just been a ruse to cover up what he was really planning, and it was his job to find out what.
'Cassia's' background would have to wait until he was done with that.
The gates were opening just as they stepped out, Jael left the Omega at the stairs as he went over to replace Asher's driver.
There would be an entourage of cars driven by bodyguards with them but Jael always drove Asher when he could.
He was particularly looking forward to this trip, curious to see Asher interact with the almost mute and skittish Omega.
Caspian watched Jael's retreating back with mild panic, he had suddenly picked up the pace out of nowhere, and with no idea of what else to do, he slowly went after him.
The black dress he wore had a high slit which was both mortifying and relieving. Mortifying because it showed an unhealthy amount of skin and relieving because he wouldn't trip on the long skirt and get a mouthful of dirt.
He carefully made his way over to the car where Jael had gone, a little surprised not to see Asher and deduced that he would be driven to the Mafia King.
Caspian was painfully aware of the stares he got but no one was yet to tackle him to the ground, so he could confidently say that his disguise was working.
Even Hannah hadn't been able to see through it, so as long as he didn't make any drastic mistakes, tonight should go smoothly.
Jael got into the driver's seat, glancing at the rearview mirror to find Asher fixated on the Omega who was gingerly making her way over. She walked like the ground was made of lava, picking her skirt up like she didn't do it very often.
He watched her get to the door of the car and open it up without caution, and he knew then that she had no idea that Asher was seated on the other side, if the look of horror immediately painting her face was anything to go by.
Jael refocused on driving when she vocalized her horror, he had to give her props for trying to run away after realizing her mistake when she knew well that she couldn't even walk in her shoes.
Her fear of Asher was clearly instinctive, and he couldn't really blame her.
Caspian stared wide-eyed at Asher, the very last person he had been expecting to see when he opened the car door. He had immediately taken a step back, but the Alpha was faster and now he was seated on him, fingers holding onto powerful shoulders.
Asher always seemed bigger than life, his head fogging as the scent of smoke and spices filled his senses. This was the first time he was this close to the Alpha and he wanted nothing more than to run.
Asher seemed to have immediately figured out his thoughts if the firm hold on his waist was anything to go by.
He watched the car door shut with trepidation, making the space even smaller.
"H-Hi," He softly said for lack of what to say, breaking off the staring competition they had going on.
Caspian sounded a little breathless, and he knew it wasn't due to his short romp in heels, his blood rushing in his ears.
In the dim light of the car, he could see Asher's smile split his lips, and that was all the warning he got before he closed the distance between them.
A firm hand on his jaw dissuaded him from turning away, heavy rings cool against his skin.
It was so startling that he didn't even think to turn away, tasting wood smoke and metal on Asher's tongue. The metal taste was courtesy of the tongue piercing that had somehow completely gone unnoticed by Caspian until that moment.
It was a little unfair that his first kiss would come from Asher, the Alpha kissed him like he wanted to devour him, tongue piercing gently clinking against his teeth.
The kiss went on forever, it was like Asher didn't need to breathe, and it was impossible to pull away.
He fell against Asher's chest gasping for breath when the kiss finally ended, lightheaded, limbs weak. He was so out of it that he didn't notice that Asher was no longer holding him captive for the longest time, his taste clinging to his tongue.
"Hey," Asher returned his greeting, his low, raspy voice right next to his ear.
Caspian flinched at that, a full-body shiver going through him. He couldn't say how he managed to get off the Alpha's legs in the confining space and the constricting clothing he wore.
But he scrambled away until his back was up against the other door, chest heaving, lipstick smeared.
Asher's smile was back on his face but he made no move to come after him, and he hoped he was content with the kiss he stole and it would remain that way for the rest of the ride.
The dress he wore parted at the slit as he scrambled away but he barely noticed it, the reminder that they weren't alone in the car occupying his thoughts.
He knew he would have to deal with this, he had even thought of the ways it could work in his favor. But thinking about it and experiencing it were two different things.
Caspian was way in over his head here, how did he ever think he could hide his gender from Asher during intimacy?
He would be found out the moment they got back from the function because although Asher kept his distance now, there was no missing the need in his eyes.
