Chapter 58
Two months later.
Winter passed and spring came, and Sophina turned 15.
Ricardo turned 17 years old.
In the meantime, things were going well. Jane’s father’s company had created a convincing ledger.
I was a little nervous that it would be caught, but Mother didn’t mind.
—You don’t have to report this.Don’t worry. I believe in you. You’ve been so supportive.
The groundwork for Thenedore’s launch was completed without incident.
The investigation of Jane’s watch workshop was also finalized.
Jane herself, with her wide feet, had been able to gather a lot of rumors.
But when Sophina heard the report, she was puzzled.
“So you’re saying that the owner changed hands a few months ago?” “Yeah, it used to be a guy with a knife scar on his face. They say it’s been run by a sloth for generations.”Jane took a small breath and added to the story.
“And the name of the workshop was originally the Snow Clock Workshop.”Hearing that, Sophina muttered to herself.
“That’s weird….”So does this mean that the informant might not be the same person from the original story?
I don’t know exactly, because the information wasn’t very detailed.
However, I read in the book that the watch workshop has been in the family for generations, so it has a long history.
The character was also described as a veteran, having learned the trade from a young age.
‘Huh? Is this the reason the informant is so slow to give information every time?’
It’s not the real informant from the original.
Besides….
‘That information thing is a real prize.’
The clock tower collapsing at the end, that couldn’t have happened naturally.
Unless someone did it on purpose,
‘But if it was, the Informant is the most likely culprit.’
The only person who would know about Sophina’s visit to the clock tower would be the informant.
‘In times like this, complacency can come back to bite you in the butt.’
I’ve seen it a lot in fiction. Usually, there are only two kinds of informant positions.
Either it’s black and white, and you’re an ally, or it’s black the enemy.
I was like, ‘Whatever it is, it’s kind of creepy to be in the dark.’
Maybe it had something to do with the strange accident on the fall tour.
Vowing to find out for sure, Sophina mused darkly,
“I’m going to find out…”I almost wrote a whole book about Surviving the Clock Tower!
Well, it kind of fell apart, but I was surprised.
Jane, who had been still for the duration of the lively monologue, narrowed her eyes awkwardly.
“What?”“Nothing. Is there anything else?”
Sophina snapped out of her trance, shaking her head in disbelief.
Jane snapped her fingers in response, as if she were embarrassed.
“…I’m sorry.” “No, it’s okay.”The words were spoken, but Sophina tapped her fingertips on the table, contemplating.
There was no way she was going to be able to figure out what the informant meant.
She wondered what she should do first if she was to take a swing at the mysterious informant.
Sophina decided to take things one step at a time.
“So, I’d like to meet the sloth who used to own the workshop, do you know where he lives?”She would have to go and talk to him in person. Bringing a sloth to Chadwick Street might be a hassle later.
Luckily, Jane had an affirmative answer.
“Yes! Shall we get it ready right away?” “I can’t right now, and I’ll have to go to the sloth after that meeting, so be prepared.”In truth, I was a bit busy right now.
We were getting ready to open for business.
I had already experimented with Thenedore in my flower garden at the mansion.
The plan was to gradually introduce it to the land my mother had given me.
‘Let’s see how it goes.’
Sophina rose to her feet and turned to Jane.
“Then I’m going to take a look around the garden.” “Yes, little lady.”Once Jane was gone, Sophina gathered her thin cardigan, pulled it on, and left the room.
The gardens were a bit desolate now that most of the colorful flowers and trees had withered away for the winter.
She approached the flowerbeds that were originally planted with Roneache flowers. It was just as desolate, but there was one difference.
“Oh, my!”
Sophina muttered reflexively as she wiped the splatter from her face.
The source of the disturbance was a stream of water gushing from a well near the flowerbed where Thenedore had been embedded.
It was the result of the power of the Thenedore.
As you know, a Thenedore could be imbued with the powers of any beast.
Each Thenedore imbued with an aura glowed a different color and required the blowing of a talithe to activate.
If a Thenedore represents a coal oven, then the auras are the food, and the talithes are the coals that fuel it.
‘The point is, with Thenedore, I can use the powers of other beings.’
So Thenedore was a very precious ore.
Of course, the limitations were clear. As an ore, Thenedore was semi-permanent, but the powers it infused would wear off with use.
‘It’s a one-time thing, after all.’
Then, one of the caretakers of the flowerbeds, a designated servant, whipped Thenedore.
The gushing water gradually stopped.
In this way, others were able to manipulate telekinesis through Thenedore.
Moreover, telekinesis was a force that moved at the will of the caster, making it effective for this type of farming.
‘It’s a good thing I had Thenedor embedded in my other farming tools.’
This made harvesting effortless.
‘I’ve done a lot of work, and I’m glad I didn’t need Thenedor as much as I thought I would.’
Sophina smiled with pride and glanced around.
“Wow, it’s quite a sight to behold. Now that it’s spring, we just need to plant flowers.”It’s like seeing a factory system.
“It’s amazing.”At that moment, I heard a familiar voice. It was Ricardo.
— Oh, what a curious mechanism.Canus was there, too.
He strode over to Sophina with a certain dignity.
— Sister, you said you were going into business. What can I do for you?It was clear that Canus wanted a piece of the business.
— I’m a genius, you know I’m good at my job. Hmm?Canus was terribly patronizing.
‘Well, he’s smart, so I thought I’d try to get him to join me.’
Eventually, Sophina and Canus had a high-five. His sleek tail made a frictional sound against her palm.
“Good, good luck in the future, for sure, Doctor Canus.” — Ahem. Just keep the stocks down.Just as they were getting to know each other, Ricardo called out to Sophina.
“My lady.” “Yes?” “We’re going to have a product launch?”He glanced at the Roneache flowers.
Sophina replied nonchalantly
, “I think it would be a good idea.”The only people who had truly witnessed the effects of the Roneache flower cure were those invited to the banquet.
She wanted to get it into everyone’s heads.
To sell it. So they decided to invite journalists and increase the publicity.
A product launch.
Ricardo tilted his head obliquely and crossed his arms. As if he didn’t particularly like this situation.
“But why is my sister invited to that?”‘Shouldn’t she be the priority?’
Ricardo was actually a little annoyed that Sophina had invited only her sister.
Unaware of Ricardo’s feelings, Sophina replied casually, “Yes, Ririela said she would be the model for the demonstration.”
She said she’d be more helpful since she’s one of those people whose side effects show up right away.
At first, I refused because I felt like I was hurting her unnecessarily. But she talked me into it, so I agreed.
And perhaps a Chadwick family member would add to the buzz.
At that moment, Ricardo’s expression softened slightly. He realized that Sophina hadn’t asked for it, but his sister had.
He turned to Sophina and said, “Where did you say it was going to be? The public exhibition.”
“The town square. Why?” “I’m going.”Ricardo declared proudly.
Sophina smiled brightly,
“Really? Then that’s good for me.”‘Oh. With more limelight. I could hear the money piling up.’
Suddenly, I remembered the hot spring trip. I’d promised to grant him anything, but he still hadn’t told me his wish.
Sophina poked Ricardo in the face.
“But when are you going to use that wish?” “I don’t know. I’m still thinking about it.”Ricardo replied vaguely.
What the heck was he going to do and for how long. I was worried, but I didn’t probe further.
I had other things to worry about.
The day passed, and the scheduled presentation was right around the corner.
