Blood Curse Academia - Relaunch- Major Changes

Blood Curse Academia - Relaunch- Major Changes

This list is going to focus mostly on changes that matter to understand the second book’s ending (and beyond). There are many changes I made that I’m not going to include (for example- I rewrote the scene of Kizu climbing over the academy’s wall, discarding the idea of him using small ice pillars, but that’s not something that matters long term). There are thousands of changes that make the book better, but don’t directly affect the events of the future. The original draft was 220,000 words long. The new version is 245,000 words. And that’s not even showing all that I deleted and rewrote. There were a lot of clarifications and restructuring.

-Book 1-

Name Changes

-Kekkon is now Otochi

-Vampire spawn are now Bloodspawn

-Vampire Lord is now Blood Lord

-Wave Edge Academy is now Shinzou Academy

New Additions

-A few minor scenes/dialogues in the second and third chapters to help make his parents a little less sociopathic. They’re still completely inept as parents, but not ill-intentioned or completely uncaring.

-Ulric is mentioned as being present at Emilia’s party.

-Lucas is now the only half-troll on campus.

-Switched Professor Krimpt from being dull, to being cold and intimidating.

-Added attendance’s importance. Students have their parents alerted if they don’t attend classes.

- Kizu confronts Finn after the arrest. Finn reluctantly apologizes after Kizu applies pressure on him and agrees to leave him alone. He also implies during this conversation that he greatly dislikes Kizu because Anna always ignored him in favor of looking for Kizu.

-Spellsense is now an enhancement spell, not a divination. It strengthens the human’s natural sense into one that can more accurately detect spells.

-It has now been clarified that spells are cast through the heart. Blood obtains its affinities and spell properties as it is pumped through the heart. It does not inherently have it from its creation in the bone marrow.

-Kizu channels a little bit using Mort’s blood while under the antimagic bracelet’s influence.

-Arclight giving a speech at the start of the first fighting competition (the one Kizu spectated, not fought in) about the importance of blood and why first blood matters due to the tradition of the competition. Also added clear mentions of being able to verbally forfeit or step out of the ring. It is noted that she is authorized by the Hon government to oversee these competitions.

-Professor Kateshi watching over the competition as a medical authority.

-More to Raygen (the medical student girl who gets Kizu the dictionary). She is described by her ex boyfriend as incompetent and originally got the position assisting in the medical wing because of his interference.

-Several mentions of Professor Kateshi going out of town.

-Dialogue between Kizu and Ione in the World Dungeon after hunting bloodspawn (rounding out their discussion and solidifying their friendship).

-Arclight attempts to stop the fighting competitions after seeing how they were skewed by the students, but being thwarted by the Hon government. As they are an official tradition, she lacks authority to stop it with little notice.

-New character - Inari Kusatta - a prince of the Hon Empire and one of their four warlords. 33rd in line of succession.

-Inari fills in for Kateshi as she’s out of town during Kizu’s fighting competition.

-When Arclight attempts to stop the competition after Harvey beguiles the audience, Inari stops her from interfering.

-Inari removes Arclight (unwillingly) after Harvey’s fight, stepping up as the facilitator of the competition instead.

-Kizu plans to forfeit if his fire-breathing potion doesn’t secure a victory.

-Ulric enhances his skin to resist fire, resulting only in minor burns.

-When Kizu attempts to verbally forfeit, Inari interferes, creating a blockage in his windpipe and not allowing him to speak. As it’s inside Kizu’s body, none of the spectators can sense the spell.

-Inari doesn’t assist in healing as he’s supposed to after the competition ends.

-Raygen heals Kizu’s leg, but doesn’t set the bones properly beforehand. This results in the leg healing, but improperly. Now his body will revert to that as his ‘healed’ condition, even if amputated and regrown.

-Inari is mentioned as a companion of Professor Kateshi’s from her delving days.

-Massive gemstone Anata examines in the seabed ruins is now colored scarlet instead of blue.

-Kizu is more wary and untrusting of Basil after betrayal. Ione questions him immediately, but is distracted by Anata. He remains elusive after their battle and cannot be understood without Kizu’s translation earring.

-Ione rips apart Kizu’s flawed argument about people being something other than the choices they make, stating that the choices made make the person who they are. She brings up the fact that her and her sister are functionally the same externally, but completely people. (this conversation relevant for book 3’s context)

-In the Epilogue, Sekai now notes that Otochi attempted to kill Kizu when they first met, but afterwards considered the situation and decided to send his bloodspawn to fetch them as a test. The bell was meant as a gift for Anata if Kizu and co. succeeded.

Removed

-Kizu disregarding classes and not paying attention. He now actively looks forward to attending his classes.

-Firebombing bloodspawn from above while they were in a pit (bit too harsh).

BOOK 2 MAJOR CHANGES

There is the addition of two new chapters in book 2. Chapter 81 and Chapter 93. In book two, I added between 100 - 700 words to each chapter. A lot of this was rounding out scenes, adding dialogue, adding foreshadowing details, and better establishing characters. I’ve included what I believe to be a list of the most vital changes you should be aware of.

Chapter 58 - Fleshed out Kizu’s mother in their argument. Made her motives and reasoning more clear and she is less sociopathically dismissive.

Chapter 63 - Kateshi’s dinner companion is changed to Inari. They’re arguing about ‘academy politics.’

Chapter 78 - The Headmaster’s discussion goes deeper into the importance of history and he discusses Kizu’s sister a bit more. Ranking total to be given Anna’s location changed from 800 to 1000.

Chapter 80 - Roba’s requests are altered. She demands that Kizu help Knoff with an errand.

-NEW CHAPTER (81) Cats and Snakes (Kizu and Ione journey to the other side of the island to fetch a hebijikan sighted there. Knoff needs it for brewing class. They run into trouble and Kizu ends up killing a goblin)

Chapter 87 - Kizu now encounters Evie in the blizzard leaving their camp the other direction. He debates going after her, but prioritizes Anata.

-NEW CHAPTER (93) The Glacier’s Collapse (After slaying the monstrous guardian bear, they have to escape a collapsing glacier and the corpse frozen in the glacier wake up and attempt to stop them)

Chapter 94 - Evie is mentioned to have the potential to become a shaman. This is why her tribe wants her, despite her only being half Kemon. Kemon politics are described in more detail.

-Book 2 Name changes-

Haruki is now - Harumi

Osaki is now - Kumiho
