You think you can fool me?
"Don't waste time," realising he has been a bit too rough, Fil followed up, "I'm fine. We should figure out how to become knights."
The confused face Eric made, slowly burnt a new desire in Fil. Oh, how he wanted to violate this human, but Fil endured these thoughts and threw them away. Noticing that his body reacted to Eric now, made it hard for File to interact normally with him.
One wrong look or touch could test Fil's patience on the max level. This was bad. What the hell was this human?
Eric didn't know what went on in Fil's head and thought that Fil was only impatient. Could it be Fil was overthinking about the matter the entire night? Then that would explain why Fil was so irritated.
"You're right," Eric nodded, "We should head to the celebration as soon as possible and check it out first before deciding what to do."
"Sounds good," Fil only mumbled. His usual fierceness and aggressiveness died down a lot, but it wasn't bad for Eric. On the contrary, his eardrums didn't have to suffer anymore.
After breakfast, Eric and Fil left the outskirts and moved to the centre of the capital. It didn't look any different than the other cities they've come across in the wasteland but there was one visible distinction. It was the giant palace that rose in the middle of the capital.
If Eric had to describe it, it was as tall and big as a pyramid but the architecture reminded of an ancient temple that had the colour scheme of light brown and the material looked to be the same as a pyramid's.
On the way there, the buzzing streets were filled with people who all flocked to the centre. The plaza in front of the palace. The place where the knight's celebration was held.
Eric and Fil found out through the inn staff that the celebration went on for a week. It was the biggest attraction in wasteland, so no one wanted to miss it.
Currently, it was the third day of the competition. Up until the last day, demons and villains could sign up and on the same day had to pass various trials and tests.
Of course, superheroes and cultivators were not allowed to participate but there were a few that watched, albeit a small, very small minority, since many of those righteous people deemed the inhabitants of wastelands as lowly trash. It was only the curiosity that led some of them here to mingle among these bad and evil people.
Once Eric and Fil arrived, they saw the large-open spaced plaza that was transformed into multiple small arenas. Loud cheers and shouts were heard from miles away already but now they were ear-defying.
There were five medium-sized arenas that housed around 200-300 people. The arenas were lined up before the palace and took up half of the plaza. It was unimaginable just how large the plaza actually was.
Half of the plaza that was void of the arenas, where Eric and Fil stood, was divided into two. One for the audience to buy their tickets to watch the newly crowned knights and the other half for aspiring knights to sign up. The demons and villains were all dressed in thin and sandy brown clothes. They wore sandals. Luckily, the inn sold these clothes or else Fil and Eric would stick out like a sore thumb.
Standing just at the beginning of the plaza, Eric elbowed Fil slightly who was in a daze staring at this sight. No more self-praising comments?
"We should try our luck and line up," Eric suggested. Maybe they wouldn't find out that Eric was a cultivator and Fil, well, the hero.
Even if Eric failed with the cover-up he came up with, the worst thing that could happen was them being rejected. Or maybe they'd be seen as spies but that seemed to be too much of a drag since Eric had the seal that showed they were allowed to enter as cultivators and superheroes. There was no need for them to act as spies.
"You sure?" Fil scratched the back of this head.
Eric sighed, "You're a demon in the first place."
"But in this story, I'm not tho."
"Oh," Eric was surprised, Fil had awareness, huh?
"Either way, we should give it a try," Eric was perplexed at Fil's reluctance.
Wasn't Fil someone who had no worries nor any care? Fil was a person who'd charge straight ahead but since this morning Fil acted very unusually.
"Come on,'' Eric took Fil's hand and felt the latter jolting in surprise but with the strength Eric had, he dragged Fil to stand in line with him. If they never made a move, then this damn story would never end!
The line seemed endless and in the heat, Eric and Fil stood next to each other between other sweaty men. This was hell for both of them. For different reasons. Fil looked around and was relieved. Apart from Eric who made him almost burst none of the other demons or villains turned him on!
For fuck's sake!
He'd rather go and mate with any of them than to feel attracted to his human teacher! What luck was that?
After an endless waiting time, it was finally Eric's and Fil's turn at the signup table. There were only two knights. No wonder it took so long! Eric grimaced secretly, couldn't they afford to put more staff here? It wasn't because of a lack of personnel! Eric was sure of it.
"Name, aspiration, rank, field," one soldier who was a demon absent-mindedly talked to Eric while looking at the paper in front of him.
The other villain was taking care of Fil. One could distinguish demons by some of their inhuman features such as fangs, horns, wings or whatever, whereas villains all had the attribute of dark, be it black hair, black eyes or the black tattoo in form of a stripe across their neck that showed they were villains.
So, one look of the knights at Fil and Eric already told them they were neither.
"You guys," the demon's lazy voice picked up a sharp tone, "What do you think you're doing?"
Ah, so it has come to this. Eric's heart was speeding but he forced himself to calm down and signalled Fil to let him do the talking.
"It's my demon power," Eric answered confidently. Confidence was key when it came to lying. If you are confident of what bs you're blabbering you already half-deceived the target. Eric lived by that because obviously he was a two-faced scum and it has proven him successful.
Seeing how assured of himself Eric was, the knights furrowed their brows, "Your powers?"
"Yes, it's akin to camouflage. Of course, I won't tell you what my real power is," as an editor, Eric knew that in stories like this, revealing one's power was a fatal mistake.
Using this knowledge, Eric blabbered more bullshit, "We merely assume the appearance of humans but are actually demons. Currently, my power is on a cooldown, so I can't change us back to our normal demon form."
"You want us to believe this crap?" the villain knight barked. Eric shrugged his shoulders, "Test me then."
Fil threw Eric a look and Eric cried in telepathy, 'I don't know where this blatant confidence's coming from!'
"Wait," the demon knight stopped the villain from apprehending Fil and Eric, "It's true such a power can exist," then he turned around and shouted, "Hey, bring the orb."
The orb? Oh no, Eric's lies would be uncovered!
The orb was straight delivered to the table.
"The orb determines if you're demons or not, now put your hand on it!"
