chapter 15
15 – Catch the devil
Smart.
Someone knocked on the door early in the morning.
I got up from my sleep and opened the door.
The person who knocked on the door was First Class Priest Viteo.
He looked at me with a worried face.
“What are you doing at this hour?”
“Sorry for the late…. Could you follow me right now? The president is looking for you.”
“Yes, I will. Your complexion is not good. What the hell is going on?”
“That…. The demon in the temple dungeon has disappeared. It looks like someone released it on purpose.”
“Hmm, that’s a big deal. It seems that there are heretics in the academy as well.”
Viteo took the lead.
He briefly explained the current situation.
A total of two escaped demons.
It is said that it was originally a demon captured for priestly lessons.
The demon was supposed to be lurking around the academy, looking for a suitable body.
Priests and paladins are looking for it, but they haven’t been able to find it yet.
Fortunately, the level of the demon released from the dungeon was an intermediate level demon.
There won’t be many victims.
But even if the rank was low, a demon was a demon. We had to stop the demons as quickly as possible to avoid taking any victims.
Viteo led me to the president’s office.
As Viteo knocked on the door of the president’s office, he heard a woman’s voice telling him to come in.
The interior of the president’s office was full of books, and the smell was that of a bookstore.
“Ah, welcome. Please sit here.”
The president had dark purple hair and purple eyes. She felt her charisma as her president and her mystery.
You’re younger than I thought.
“Yes? What did you say?”
As I stared at him, the president showed a puzzled expression and said, It seemed that the president was still awake, as if he had just woken up.
“No. I looked at you because you were younger than I thought.”
Kellysia’s eyes widened when I gave her honest impressions.
“Oh! Did you just hear look at me….”
Kellisia’s tired-looking face widened.
“President!”
Shouted Whiten Sisyphus, the man sitting to her right. He was Vice-Chancellor of Viscilia.
Unlike the president, he was a middle-aged man with a full beard.
“Oh, yes. Sorry. I’m also in a daze because I’m not sleeping much right now. Please come over and sit down.”
I sat to her left.
Kelly Sia looked at me with her tired eyes.
“What do you think, Grand-nim?
“Heh heh, you can call me Gran comfortably. Am I not a student of Visilia?”
“I want to do that too, but I don’t think I can do it today. We need the power of the High Priest, not the students.”
I nodded and got to the point.
“Then I understand. The first thing to do is to catch the demons that have been released. They’re probably looking for a body right now. It’s an urgent situation, so you’ll need a body you can control rather than a contractor. Probably targeting the bodies of those who are psychologically withered. He will be hiding in or near the dormitory.”
Kellysia listened to me. She nodded and opened her mouth.
“Viteo, could you tell the searchers to focus on the dormitory area?”
“Okay.”
Viteo jumped up from his seat.
“Ah, if you find it, tell me.”
Viteo stopped walking toward the door.
“It’s okay, it’s a mid-level demon, so we’ll take care of it ourselves.”
“Didn’t I say it was a demon captured for class? I’ll keep it for future students. You don’t have to get rid of it.”
“But too risky….”
“Heh heh, Mr. Viteo….”
Viteo laughed awkwardly as I looked at him with a smile. He noticed what I was about to say.
I hate to say it twice.
“Ah…. Got it. I will tell you right away.”
Viteo scratched his head and said, then moved on.
Only me, the president, and the vice president were left in the president’s office.
“Who has access to the Academy Temple Prison?”
“Me and Vice President, Mr. Viteo, and lastly Mr. Bioris.”
It’s a personal guess, but it’s definitely not Viteo. To put it simply, the person named Vioris, who was not here, was the most suspicious.
“Who is Bioris?”
“Ah, you are a paladin teacher. He is our head teacher.”
“I see. So, are there any people you have access to that you might be suspicious of?”
I asked directly. I didn’t ask to hear Kellysia’s answer. It was a risk to simply look at the reaction.
“Gran Student!”
The vice-chancellor on the other side of me yelled.
“Hey, what do you mean by that? Are you suspicious of us now?”
It was a situation where I could be angry enough as a vice-president who was unfair or not. It was just a ceremonial question.
“Heh heh…. No doubt All I could do was make a reasonable inquiry.”
“Vice President, Gran is right. We are the only ones with access to the dungeon.”
When the president spoke, the vice-chancellor groaned and shook his head.
“I don’t have the ability to catch the culprit in this case. But…. I will do my best for the students and teachers here in Visilia.”
I looked at President Jigshi and glanced at the vice president who was displeased.
It was a signal to let the vice-president go.
Fortunately, Kelly Sia understood, she sighed and stood up from her seat.
“Gran-nim’s help will be of great help to us. Vice-President, aren’t you tired? Now go in and rest.”
“Yes? I have already woken up. Things end….”
“It’s okay. Please go in.”
As Kelly’s voice grew colder, Whiten stood up without a word.
He glared at me once and then left.
Ugly fur stuck.
“I believe it is not the president.”
“Yes, in the Academy, you have no choice but to trust me.”
When the vice-chancellor left, her reaction turned cynical.
Perhaps he must have been hurt by my suspicions and the forced dismissal of his colleague, the vice-chancellor.
“As I said earlier, we cannot find out who the culprit is. If one thing is certain, it is that there are heretics in Viscilia. And I will catch that heretic. Are you all right?”
“Yes, of course. Viscilia puts the safety of its students first.”
“Good. Then I will call the Heretic Questioners tomorrow.”
Kellysia’s eyes, which had looked blunt a moment ago, became round as if they were going to pop out.
Being the subject of investigation by the Heretic Questioners simply meant that there was a heretic.
Therefore, the world-famous reputation of Visilia had no choice but to be cracked.
“You said you were going to call the Heretic Questioners? I wonder how coercive they are….”
“hehehe, the Heretic Questioner is not coercive. It is only oppressive to heretics and demons. If you prioritize student safety, you’d better listen to my suggestion.”
Kelly Sia clutched her forehead to see if her hair was pounding.
“Haa…. All right.”
“Students and teachers will all be subject to investigation. Of course, if you are found to be a heretic, you will face death whether you are a student or a teacher. And there will be an unexpected inspection, so I hope the president will control it well on the day.”
“This is probably the best way… ?”
“It’s the best I can do. You won’t be able to catch them all. The heretics will start cutting their tails. But for the time being, you won’t be doing anything like today. You can see it as a time delay.”
Cellicia didn’t say anything. She wandered about to calm her troubled mind.
I waited for her to calm down.
She said, “I heard that she’s not in a good mood lately…. Eventually, heretics appeared in Visilia too.”
“No one knows how far their power will grow. So, not just priests and paladins, everyone should be interested.”
Smart.
“This is Viteo. I found the devil.”
I got up from my seat.
“Then let’s get up first.”
I moved along with Viteo.
It was just before sunrise, and soon it would be time for the diligent students to wake up.
“Let’s catch it as soon as possible.”
We sped up and headed towards the demon.
One was hiding in the bathroom near the classroom.
The priests and paladins were using lights at the entrance and windows to block the entry of demons.
A group of close to 15 stood there, struggling with a mid-level demon.
“Rain, Mr. Viteo!”
A priest teacher approached Viteo with a face that said he had lived.
“Wouldn’t it be better to kill Lord? The resistance is too strong.”
“Now that I understand, just step back. That guy will be in charge of me and this person.”
“Yes? Ha, aren’t you a student?”
Viteo was taken aback by a priest’s question and then looked at me.
“Heh heh, my master was the Heretic Questioner.”
The priest nodded as if he understood only then.
“Then let’s go for a while.”
When I went into the bathroom, the paladin teachers and priest teachers made uh, uh, panicked sounds, but they didn’t follow.
The devil was clinging to the ceiling and glaring at me.
I jumped and grabbed the devil’s torso.
“Stay still. If you don’t want to die.”
After grabbing the demon’s torso, I went outside to catch the next one.
“That thing I caught… Could it be the devil?”
“Heh heh, it will pass for a while.”
“You caught the devil with your hand?”
“Did you see it right?”
The teacher’s reaction felt like a naive student’s reaction.
“Viteo, go to the next demon.”
Viteo did not move despite my words.
His mouth was wide open and his eyes looked like they would pop out at any moment.
“That, can you hold him with your hands?”
“Heh heh, it is possible if you are single. Go quickly.”
“Keee!”
The demon struggled and howled loudly.
“Shut up!”
When I put strength into my hand, the demon made up of vague phenomena like fog drooped.
***
“Commander Ryzen. It is a letter.”
“It’s been a while since I wrote a letter. Who is the caller?”
“The Grand Priest is here.”
“What is that? He said he was going to the academy, but he also writes letters. Oh, even if this world is destroyed….”
“Ryzen, please read it quickly. Wouldn’t that be urgent?”
Raizen calmed his pounding heart and hurriedly opened the letter. He read it carefully, not skipping a single word.
He read only 3 seconds.
He tossed the letter away as if nothing had happened.
The contents of the letter.
Discover the heretic of Visilia Academy. Threat procedure required.
“Uh huh, that’s right. This bastard has nothing but training and heresy.”
