Auron Trinity

Chapter 12 - The Infernian Assault part 2

The acrid smell of ozone hung heavy in the air as Angelo and Jack allowed themselves a brief moment of respite. Their chests heaved with exertion, bodies battered but spirits unbroken. The unconscious forms of the lightning and wind Aurons lay at their feet, a testament to their hard-won victory.

However, their relief was short-lived. Blue's voice, tinged with urgency, echoed in Angelo's mind. "Well done, you two," he commended, his tone a mixture of pride and concern. "But I'm afraid our work here isn't finished just yet."

Across the devastated town square, Blue was engaged in a deadly dance with the remaining Infernian threat - the force Auron. The brute's massive fists shattered the ground with each missed strike, sending tremors through the ruined landscape.

"Stand still, you slippery little rat!" the force Auron bellowed, his face contorted with rage. His purple aura pulsed violently, each flare leaving cracks in the nearby buildings.

Blue, his form flickering in and out of corporeality, nimbly avoided another earth-shattering punch. "Perhaps you should work on your aim," he retorted, his calm voice a stark contrast to the chaos around him. "Or is it that your muscles have overtaken what little brain you had to begin with?"

Angelo's brow furrowed as he observed the exchange through their shared consciousness. "Why are you goading him like that?" he thought back to Blue. "You're only going to make him more dangerous."

Blue's response came swiftly, laced with a hint of strain. "I can handle this brute's temper tantrums. The angrier he gets, the sloppier his attacks become." There was a pause, and when Blue continued, there was a note of concern in his mental voice. "However, his attacks are creating shockwaves that are slowly eroding my form. I'm afraid I won't be able to keep this up much longer."

Angelo nodded grimly, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Got it," he replied. "I just needed to catch my breath. Red is out of commission, but Jack and maybe Bill can still help. We'll be there soon."

Turning his attention back to the physical world, Angelo deactivated his aura, allowing his body a moment to recover. He surveyed the area, noting the destruction that had befallen the once-peaceful square. Debris littered the ground, and the air was thick with dust and the lingering energy of their recent battle.

"Alright, listen up," Angelo addressed Jack and Bill, his voice carrying the weight of command. "Blue's holding off that brute, but he can't keep it up forever. We need to move."

Jack, his earth aura flickering off, nodded in grim agreement. "No time to waste," he said, his voice tight with urgency. "That monster took out two of my squad with one hit. We can't afford to lose anyone else."

Bill, the rookie wind Auron, stepped forward. His uniform was torn and dirty, but his eyes blazed with determination. "I... I don't know how much help I'll be with just my wind," he admitted, a tremor in his voice betraying his nervousness. "But I'll do whatever I can, boss!" The respect in his voice was palpable, clearly influenced by the recent confrontation with the Infernian Aurons and Red's last-ditch effort, which must have seemed like a stroke of genius to the young officer.

Angelo allowed himself a small, approving smirk. "That's the spirit. Now, let's move—"

His words were cut short as new figures entered the scene. Chief Ramirez strode into view, his face a thundercloud of anger. He was accompanied by several officers who immediately began tending to the injured civilians and fallen comrades scattered around the square.

"What in blazes is going on here?" Chief Ramirez bellowed, his face flushing an alarming shade of red. "I want answers, and I want them now!" His furious gaze locked onto Angelo and Jack. "And you," he spat, jabbing a finger at Angelo. "You're supposed to be suspended! Yet here you are, right in the middle of this mess!"

Bill tensed visibly, fear etched across his features. Angelo straightened, meeting the Chief's gaze unflinchingly. "Sir, I can explain—" he began, but Jack swiftly interjected.

"Chief," Jack's voice rang out, firm and resolute. "My squad and I engaged the enemy forces as per protocol. Angelo only stepped in after my team was overwhelmed. Without him, this could have been much worse."

The Chief's gaze swept over to the two remaining conscious members of Jack's squad. They nodded vigorously, backing up their leader's account. Chief Ramirez's expression softened marginally, the fire in his eyes dimming ever so slightly.

In that moment, Red's voice echoed in Angelo's mind, urgent and tinged with frustration. "Angelo, we don't have time for this bureaucratic bullshit. Blue needs us, now!"

Seizing the momentary lull, Angelo spoke up. "Sir, I understand your concerns, but we're not done here. There's still one more Infernian terrorist out there, and Blue's keeping him busy. We need to take him down before he does any more damage."

Chief Ramirez paused; conflict evident in his eyes as he glanced towards the other two incapacitated Infernians. After what felt like an eternity, he spoke, his voice heavy with resignation. "Fine. I'll let this slide for now. But don't think for a second we're done here, Angelo."

Angelo nodded, determination blazing in his eyes as his aura flared to life once more, bathing him in a brilliant orange glow. He turned to Jack and Bill, who mirrored his actions, their own auras springing forth. "Let's go," he commanded, and the three of them sprinted towards the ongoing battle, leaving behind a visibly conflicted Chief Ramirez.

As they approached the epicenter of the destruction, they took cover to assess the situation and formulate a strategy. Jack, ever the tactician, began to outline what they knew about their formidable opponent.

"Alright, here's what we're up against," Jack stated, his voice low and serious. "Force Aurons are known for their insane offense and defense."

Bill nodded eagerly, his earlier fear giving way to a mix of excitement and nervousness at being included in such a high-stakes operation. "But they've got to have a weakness, right?" he asked, his voice hopeful. "Something we can use against him?"

Jack nodded approvingly at the rookie's astute question. "They do," he confirmed. "Their big weakness is long-range attacks. They can't make projectiles - all their energy goes straight into raw force. That's why they're so damn tough up close."

Bill's eyes lit up with understanding. "Hold on," he mused aloud, his voice gaining confidence. "We can all do ranged attacks. Doesn't that give us an edge?"

Angelo shook his head grimly, tempering the young officer's enthusiasm. "It's not that simple," he explained, his voice tinged with frustration. "Yeah, we can hit from a distance, but this guy's defense is no joke. Small attacks won't even scratch him. All he needs to do is get in close, and any one of us is toast." Angelo's expression darkened further. "And if he knows what he's doing, he can use that force aura to boost his speed. We can't underestimate him."

The gravity of Angelo's words hit Bill hard. "So... what do we do?" he asked, his earlier confidence wavering. "How can we possibly take this guy down?"

A heavy silence fell over the group as the gravity of their situation sank in. In the background, the sounds of Blue's evasive maneuvers and the force Auron's frustrated attacks served as a constant reminder of the ticking clock they faced.

After a moment of intense contemplation, Angelo spoke up, his tone measured but with an undercurrent of determination. "I might have an idea," he began, careful not to oversell his plan. "It's risky, but it might be our only shot."

Jack and Bill leaned in, their faces a mix of hope and apprehension. "Let's hear it," Jack urged. "What've you got in mind?"

Angelo took a deep breath before outlining his strategy. "We hit him with everything we've got, all at once. We need to take him out in one shot. The tricky part is charging up without him noticing. We need to get close, but stay hidden until we're ready to strike."

Jack nodded slowly, his mind already working through the logistics. "It's a long shot," he mused. "But how do we pull it off?"

Angelo's eyes gleamed with a mix of determination and uncertainty. "I've got one idea, but I'm all ears if you've got anything better," he said, turning to Jack. "You're the Earth Auron. Think you can make a wall to hide us? I'll charge up behind it, then blast right through when we're ready."

Bill's brow furrowed in confusion. "But Angelo," he interjected, "how will you aim if you can't see him?"

A ghost of a smile played across Angelo's lips. "That's where Blue comes in," he explained. "He's out there keeping our target busy. I can sense where he is, clear as day. As long as Blue stays between us and that force Auron, I can use him to line up my shot, even without seeing it directly."

Jack and Bill exchanged impressed glances, a spark of hope igniting in their eyes. "Well, I'll be damned," Jack muttered, a hint of admiration in his voice. "That's not half bad."

Bill's enthusiasm bubbled over. "This is awesome!" he exclaimed, his earlier fears all but forgotten. "Let's do it! We can take this guy!"

Angelo held up a hand, his expression somber. "Hold on, there's something you both need to understand," he cautioned, his voice grave. "This plan isn't foolproof. If it fails, we've blown our cover and wasted our chance. To be honest, we might not get another shot at this."

The weight of Angelo's words settled over the group, tempering their budding optimism. Jack nodded solemnly, understanding the gravity of their situation.

Suddenly, Jack's eyes lit up with an idea. He stood up, quickly surveying their surroundings. "I think I see our chance," he said, his voice low but charged with excitement. "There's a good spot over there for the wall. And look - the big guy's got his back to it."

Without waiting for a response, Jack sprang into action. His hand moved in a swift, precise motion, manipulating the earth with practiced ease. In a matter of seconds, a solid earthen wall rose from the ground, effectively closing off a section of the square before the force Auron could notice the change in his surroundings.

Angelo's eyebrows shot up in surprise, clearly impressed by Jack's quick thinking and even quicker action. "Nice work, Jack," he said, a note of admiration in his voice. "That's given us the cover we need. If you don't mind, I want to build on that plan. Let's not put all our eggs in one basket."

Angelo quickly outlined his strategy. "While I'm charging up my attack behind the wall, you two should prepare your own strikes. Jack, how about a big, dense boulder? And Bill, see if you can compress air for a powerful blast. Once I hit him with my initial attack, he might be off balance. That's when you two go for his head with your attacks. It's our best shot at taking him down for good."

Jack and Bill nodded in agreement, their faces set with determination. "Sounds like a solid plan," Jack affirmed. "Let's make it happen."

As one, the three Aurons moved into position behind Jack's newly erected wall, each focusing intently on their role in the upcoming assault. The air around them crackled with tension and the promise of unleashed power. In the distance, Blue continued his deadly dance with the force Auron, buying them the precious seconds they needed to prepare.

Angelo began to concentrate, drawing energy into his palms as an orange glow started to form. Jack placed his hands on the ground, slowly but surely compressing the earth into a dense, formidable boulder. Bill held his hands close together, his face scrunched in concentration as he worked to compress the air between his palms into a potent, focused blast.

The final confrontation was at hand, lives hung in the balance. Angelo, Jack, and Bill steeled themselves for what could be their final, decisive strike against the Infernian threat, their combined attacks poised to unleash devastation upon their unsuspecting foe.

The air behind Jack's hastily erected wall crackled with building energy as Angelo, Jack, and Bill prepared their decisive strike. Angelo's hands glowed with the growing power of his "Energy Bomb," while Jack and Bill strained to compress their respective elements to their utmost density.

However, the Force Auron's instincts began to prickle. Something felt off. His eyes darted towards the newly formed wall, catching glimpses of light seeping through its cracks. If he were to attack now, their entire plan would crumble.

Blue, observing the brute's growing suspicion, knew he had to act fast. Channeling his inner Red, he called out, his usually calm voice taking on an uncharacteristic taunt, "H-Hey, you overgrown grape! Over here!"

With a burst of speed, Blue launched himself at the Force Auron, aiming a kick at the brute's face. But the Infernian was ready. His massive hand shot out, enveloping Blue's leg in a vice-like grip.

"Ha ha ha!" the Force Auron bellowed, triumph gleaming in his eyes. "Finally caught you, you little pest. Now, let's hear those bones shatter!"

The brute began to squeeze, however, something unexpected happened. Instead of screams of agony, Blue's leg simply exploded into a shower of azure energy particles. The glowing mist swirled momentarily before rushing towards Angelo's body behind the nearby wall.

The Force Auron blinked in confusion, his grip now empty. His gaze fell upon Blue, who was somehow still standing, albeit on one leg. Where the other should have been, there was only a soft blue glow and drifting particles.

"Wh-what in the hell are you?!" the brute stammered, his confidence shaken for the first time.

Blue, seizing the opportunity to buy more time, responded with an eerie calm. "I am a ghost, a demon sent from the underworld. Destroy my body, and you'll be cursed for all eternity."

The Force Auron's face flushed with anger, his earlier bravado returning. "You... you take me for a fool?!" he roared. "You're not even real! I've been toyed with by some kind of puppet! When I find your real body, I'll tear your actual limbs off one by one!"

"No, no, I assure you, I'm quite real," Blue insisted, a hint of sarcasm creeping into his voice. "A real ghost, honest."

The brute's frustration mounted. "Ghosts aren't real! What kind of idiot do you think I am?!"

Blue couldn't resist one last jab. "Well, I believe my red counterpart referred to you as 'an angry bunch of grapes.' I don't usually share his sense of humor, but I must admit, that one was rather amusing."

The Force Auron's face turned a shade of purple to match his aura, rage consuming him. "You insignificant pissants! DIEEEE!" he bellowed, lunging at Blue with outstretched hands, ready to choke the life out of him.

Using his energy tendrils and remaining leg, Blue nimbly leaped over the brute, positioning himself between the wall and his attacker. As the Force Auron whirled to face him, Blue transformed into smoke, soaring above the wall.

In that instant, the earthen barrier shattered. A massive orb of orange energy burst through, slamming into the unsuspecting Force Auron. The resulting explosion sent shockwaves through the ground, rattling windows for blocks around.

As the dust began to settle, Angelo's voice rang out, "Now!"

On cue, Jack and Bill unleashed their attacks. A dense boulder and a compressed air blast struck the dazed Force Auron square in the face, sending him crashing to the ground.

Bill leaped into the air, his fist raised in triumph. "Alright! We did it!"

But Blue, materializing on a nearby rooftop, quickly tempered their celebration. "This isn't over! Attack!"

True to Blue's warning, the Force Auron's purple aura still flickered, though greatly diminished. As he slowly opened his eyes, he found himself surrounded by four determined Aurons, all poised to strike.

What followed was a relentless barrage of attacks from all sides. Energy blasts, boulders, air cannons. The onslaught was merciless, each hit chipping away at the last vestiges of the Force Auron's formidable defense.

When the dust finally settled, the once-mighty Force Auron lay spread-eagled on the shattered pavement. His body was a canvas of bruises and abrasions, his purple aura extinguished. The threat that had seemed so insurmountable mere moments ago now lay defeated, a testament to the power of teamwork and strategic thinking.

Angelo, Jack, Bill, and Blue gathered around their fallen foe, their chests heaving with exertion but their eyes bright with the light of victory. The battle was over, but as they surveyed the devastated square, they knew that the larger conflict was far from resolved.

The wail of approaching sirens filled the night air. Blue reintegrated with Angelo as Jack and Bill caught their breath nearby. Around them, the devastated square bore silent witness to the intensity of their battle.

"Red's going to be pissed he missed the finale," Angelo muttered, his orange aura fading as he deactivated it. In their shared consciousness, Red's indignant grumbling confirmed his assessment.

Bill opened his mouth to speak, but the thundering voice of Chief Ramirez cut through the night air. "Nobody move! I want these Infernians secured immediately!"

As police units swarmed the area, Angelo exchanged knowing looks with Jack and Bill. There would be consequences to face, reports to file, and questions to answer. But for now, at least, the immediate threat had been neutralized.

The battle was over, but Angelo couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something much larger. He kept that thought to himself, however, as the clean-up operation began around them.
