The night descended, and Anling Police Station stood quietly like a monument at one corner of the city.
The surrounding streets were empty and peaceful, the sound of speeding vehicles echoing in the night. In the police station building, each small window emitted a soft light, illuminating the darkness.
Anti-Fraud Center.
Lin Chuan was the key member in this case, and one could even say that he single-handedly orchestrated the arrest ceremony for the fraud team led by Liu Qing.
Another claw in the Old Street Factory District of the Myanmar area was ended by him in one fell swoop.
After Shen Qianqian finished interrogating Liu Qing and sorted out the details of the case, she came to the reception room feeling much relaxed.
In the reception room.
Under the gentle and warm yellow light, Lin Chuan leaned back on the comfortable leather sofa, holding his phone horizontally, his fingers tapping the screen.
The Little Landlady sat next to Lin Chuan, also holding her phone horizontally, her face showing a frustrated expression.
“Chairman, I died again.”
“It’s okay, I’ll revive you. There are blood packs in the two rooms ahead.”
“I forgot to activate the shield just now.”
“No problem, I’ll give you this weapon, the Rainbow Gatling. Just activate the shield and fire at random when we fight the boss!”
“Nice! Level cleared!”
“…”
Shen Qianqian walked into the reception room and, upon closer inspection, saw Lin Chuan and Zhang Xinxin playing ‘Soul Knight.’ They had just reached the level-clearing screen and she laughed, “Comrade Lin Chuan, Comrade Zhang, sorry to keep you waiting.”
“You finished the interrogation so quickly?”
Lin Chuan looked at his old friend, smiling and asked.
“You took care of everything, so how could it not be quick?” Shen Qianqian’s oval face broke into a radiant smile, “This is the first time I’ve dealt with such an easy case.”
Several documents with criminal records were laid out in front of Liu Qing; whether she talked or not didn’t make much of a difference.
The interrogation was more like a formality.
“Officer Shen, does that mean we can have dinner now?” The Little Landlady’s eyes lit up, blinking as she asked.
“Comrade Zhang, are you hungry?”
Shen Qianqian looked at the Little Landlady, whose young face was rosy and tender with a hint of playfulness, making her very endearing.
Zhang Xinxin pursed her lips slightly, a bit embarrassed as she touched her stomach, “Well, a little.”
“Then let’s head out now!”
“Okay!”
“Xinxin, do you like barbecue? I know a barbecue restaurant that’s very delicious.”
“I love it!”
“I’ll take you there!”
“What about the Chairman?”
“He has a wide range of interests, not picky about meat or vegetables.”
“Wide range of interests, seems like it.”
“…”
In fact, it didn’t take three women for a performance; two girls were more than enough to keep the conversation lively.
The Little Landlady and Shen Qianqian opened the floodgates of chatter, starting from the first time Lin Chuan was summoned and all the way through to the rescue operation in Lincang, Yundian.
Lin Chuan, the protagonist of the stories, listened to their ‘chirping and chattering’ and quietly ate his meal.
He was really hungry after only having a cup of bubble milk tea that afternoon.
And the barbecue was indeed delicious.
The night deepened.
The evening breeze whisked away the hustle and bustle of Anling, the neon lights on the streets dimmed, and the air was filled with the faint scent of soil. The occasional passing car added a touch of silence to the peaceful atmosphere.
Shen Qianqian dropped Lin Chuan and the Little Landlady back to Happiness Community, then left.
“Chairman, I always thought your readers were just playing a joke, I didn’t expect it to be true!” The Little Landlady said, laughing.
Lin Chuan’s face darkened, “Little Landlady, it’s time for you to go to sleep!”
“I’m a bit scared to sleep alone.”
The Little Landlady naturally linked her arm through Lin Chuan’s, lifted her little face to look at him, blinked, her eyelashes fluttered, and a flicker of charm and shyness passed through her eyes.
“Little Landlady, look who’s that?” Lin Chuan chuckled, pointing his finger.
The Little Landlady was startled and then looked in the direction Lin Chuan was pointing. Ahead of them was the small supermarket of Happiness Community, where a middle-aged man sat alone at the door on a chair.
“Old Zhang.”
The Little Landlady’s brow furrowed.
That night Old Zhang, dressed in a suit and with his hair neatly combed, did not present a confident demeanor. Instead, he sat there, looking dejected, like a wounded old cat under the night sky, emitting heavy sobs.
Lin Chuan pulled the Little Landlady over to where Old Zhang was sitting.
“Old Zhang, what’s wrong?” The Little Landlady asked, furrowing her brows.
Old Zhang slowly turned his head, glanced at his precious daughter, and then at Lin Chuan, who he considered to be his son-in-law, and said listlessly, “Nothing, just felt like sitting here.”
After thinking for a moment, the Little Landlady asked, “Old Zhang, haven’t you seen Liu Qing?”
“Hmm.”
Old Zhang replied with a very low voice.
The day before yesterday, Liu Qing had taken them on a tour of East Street. After Lin Chuan and the Little Landlady left, she once again invited Old Zhang to open an antique shop. Seeing how good Liu Qing was to his daughter, he agreed to talk to Zhang Xinxin about it and give her an answer.
He and the Little Landlady discussed it and she suggested to “wait a bit longer.”
The next day, which was yesterday, he told Liu Qing to “wait a bit longer.”
Then Liu Qing seemed a bit upset, accusing Old Zhang of not supporting her business endeavors. Old Zhang had no choice but to promise that he would convince his daughter as soon as possible and then make the investment.
Tonight Old Zhang wanted to invite Liu Qing to a boat ride on the Anling River to smooth over their relationship, but she never responded.
He sent her messages, but she didn’t reply.
He called her, but her phone was off.
He even went to Liu Qing’s place, but found no one.
Liu Qing seemed to be deliberately avoiding him, and now it was past 10 p.m., and still no sign of Liu Qing.
