Ascenders Rift

Chapter 228: Milon's Injury, Sudden News

After the meeting had ended, everyone had gone about their various ways to not only rest from their wounds but also spread the news across the entire base. Besides this, Breya had followed Leo, Julie, Oron, Irene, and a few other officials towards Milon's chamber with Rick, Emilia, and Joe behind her.

Leo's faces and the others having a tinge of anxiousness and anticipation as they soon after reached the door and gestured for everyone to follow.

"He's right this way, follow me," Leo said as he hurriedly opened the door, not wanting to lose another moment.

Breya nodded as she promptly followed along with everyone else; Rick looked around the room the moment he entered, seeing that it wasn't anything fancy but a simple medical bay.

'I wonder what kind of damage that man had fallen prey—' Rick was about to think something, but suddenly, his sights landed onto a sight that caused him to widen his eyes in shock.

There, Milon's body rested on top of a bed with a strange machine covering his torso as it tried its very best to keep him in good health. Peering through its glass opening, one would see that a huge hole had opened up in Milon's chest, but luckily for him, it wasn't around his heart, and with this device, they could barely keep a man alive if his heart was still safe.

At Milon's side, the beautiful but sad-looking Wilma stared at him with a dull expression, seeming as if she wouldn't know what to do if he were lost.

Though she heard the noise, she didn't even turn her head as she only keeps staring at Milon, who had a pale expression on his face, gently holding on his arm that was growing colder by the second.

"This... oh hell," Joe said in alarm, but he quickly controlled himself, trying his best not to sound like a bastard.

'Such a severe injury, to think he can even live with that hole in his chest,' Emilia thought as she trembled. It seemed that though the world's spirits warned her, she didn't know it was to such an extent.

Even Breya found it a shocking sight as if it were anyone else; they would have long since died, she thought to herself, 'The resilience of these Evolvers is quite astonishing.'

Leo, upon seeing this clenched his fists tightly as he spoke, "Miss Breya, as you can see, this is my father's condition, and at this phase, we can suppress it for no more than a few more days, is there any way you can save him?"

When the others heard this, they all looked at Breya with hopeful eyes; even Wilma that paid no attention to anyone had turned her eyes over, her haggard appearance capable of inciting pity.

Breya looked at this, shook her head before giving a reply to Leo, "His condition is terrible, but it should still be possible... I'll go and give him a thorough inspection,"

Following those words, Breya blurred from her previous location as she rapidly arrived at Milon's side. Wilma looked at this in surprise; she hesitated before she glanced at Leo, who had come over and spoke to him.

"Leo... what's going on? Can they heal him?" Wilma hurriedly asked as she quickly held Leo's hand.

Leo sighed as he saw Wilma's current state; he stared at her before gesturing towards Breya as he spoke, "It's yet to be verified, but she did ask to see his condition."

Wilma remained silent as this, her dead eyes now having a hint of hope as she turned her attention to Breya, who started to inspect Milon.

'I really hope that Sir Milon will be fine,' Julie thought as she shifted her sights from Milon's body to Leo while muttering, "At the very least, for Leo's sake..."

Oron and Irene also nodded in agreement; they knew how fragile Leo was. He wasn't like Razel, who could still keep composure even during his mother's death.

After a short moment, everyone looked on with tense looks as Breya wiped the sweat from her forehead as she looked at everyone and replied with a smile, "Hey now, don't be so sullen, I've finished the inspection, and from what I've seen, he should be able to make it after taking our treatment."

When Leo and the others heard this, their eyes flashed with excitement, but Wilma though happy, still asked with a pensive look, "Breya, you say that he can be healed, how can you perform what our technology isn't capable of doing?"

Leo and the others looked at Breya in silence; they were curious about what special means she would use.

Breya stared at them before she took out a small tube, one filled with golden liquids. Looking at it carefully, one would notice the mark SS on its cylinder.

Wilma and everyone looked at it carefully, but Breya soon replied, "This object is known as a DH Tube or more precise. A Prototype SS Grade DH Tube, but though it's still in the testing phase, it's healing abilities are at the levels of easily regenerating loss limbs in less than a day. We can heal him based on his current condition with this."

"This... this is amazing!" Leo said in shock. He didn't think such technology existed.

Even Oron and the others were shocked, they were quite advanced in many areas, but it seems each civilization will have science achievements in different areas.

Wilma didn't know what to say; she started to cry tears of silence while looking at the tube.

Breya looked at this and sighed; she stared at Joe and the others who nodded before soon leaving the room. They knew they should at least give them some privacy.

"Alright, I shall start to administer its contents, so everyone try not to disturb me during this process," Breya said as she took out a syringe from her storage space and started to transfer the contents from the tube.

"Right," Leo and the others replied before taking a manner akin to children observing their mother.

The scene within the room turning to silence as only the sounds of Breya shuffling about was heard.

On the outside of the room, Evan and Layla walked towards Milon's quarters' direction at a steady pace.

They both remained silent as if they had plenty on their mind; Layla soon glanced at Evan and asked, "Evan, why are there so many changes this time compared to your past life?"

Evan paused to think about this, but he soon sighed and replied with a somewhat helpless look, "I'm not sure, I've thought about it many times, but now, I can't say for certain where things will be headed. Even the system's rules have changed drastically, to the very fact that we can be issued a Rift Quest based on unexpected factors is an entirely new concept to me. I feel that the road ahead, especially in those other world's won't be quite as straight forward as I'd expect them..."

Layla looked at his expression before she asked again, "We'll be fine, right?"

Evan thought for a bit before his eyes showed firmness as he answers, "No matter what, I will never let what happened in that life repeat itself another time."

Layla, who was staring at his face, lowered her head, her eyes flashing with a firm light as her thoughts remained unknown to all.

Evan felt her grip around his arm grew stronger; he said nothing as he held her closer to his body while walking even slower. Eventually, they had arrived within the vicinity of the room but saw Joe, Rick, and Emilia standing on its outside.

Evan made a curious look as he asked, "What's going on?"

Joe looked at Evan and answered, "Breya's administering a DH Tube, that new one in the prototype the last time we visited the base."

"Oh, well now, I didn't think they'd give any out, I guess that it actually progressed to a certain stage," Evan said with a pleased smile.

Rick also nodded in agreement as he added, "Indeed, when we get back, it should have more or likely been finished, I just hope it's enough to lessen the casualties on their side against those monsters at the end of this month."

When everyone heard this, their faces turn solemn as they knew that the six-month timer was almost up and had less than four weeks left until Galgorax's army launched an assault.

Evan looked at their faces and sighed before he spoke, "Hey now, no need to show such a face, they will all be fine. Don't forget the major powers have extremely talented individuals, and the MSS has those crazy new machines along with Alan, Angeline, and those of the RDF elites. Heck, even if RADA doesn't lend a hand and keep to the shadows, they should be able to fight them to a decent standstill, we only need to take care of the main threat once she gets here..."

The other remained silent before Rick asked, "You say that, but what of those other two monsters?"

Evan shook his head at this before thinking as he replied, "You forgot, we are the only ones who are in danger of those two beings, but that Origin Mutant Life is far too dangerous, the only one we can have a chance of crushing right now, is the Genetic Blood Corpse, but... we still need to find—"

Evan was about to say something, but as if someone was nearby, a voice sounded.

"Sir Evan, I would like to show you and your team something," Livia said as she walked from the nearby corridor with a tablet-like device.

Evan and the others looked at her, before Evan spoke, "Hmm, Miss Livia, please do go ahead, but might I ask what it's about?"

Livia stared at them with a smile as she replied, "It's about those Body Shifters, our research has shown some fruits."

When everyone heard this, their faces lit up as Evan had a sharp look in his eyes; he smiled as he didn't know such a windfall would occur at this time.

"Miss Livia, please do lead the way," Evan said with eyes that had a bit more steadiness as he felt that he could gain one more key advantage for their later battles.
