Chapter 92: The Train Station
Chapter 92: The Train Station
The next morning, Li Yanhong found Wu Heng again and relayed the details of the deal from the previous night.
Three bags of rice for one submachine gun, which Wu Heng found acceptable.
But he was a bit puzzled that the other party so readily agreed to the exchange.
Although guns aren't highly effective against zombies, that place is a public refuge for survivors. Despite the difficult journey, there should be quite a few people going there.
Guns are the most effective weapons for maintaining order and power, so why agree to such a trade so easily?
It seemed strange.
But in times like these, food is definitely more essential than guns.
"See if you can find a truck to transport the food and the skeletons, modify it, and then we'll head over there to trade for guns," Wu Heng said.
"Alright!"
After discussing the gun exchange, Li Yanhong continued, "We also received a distress call last night. There are some survivors at the old train station who reported encountering mutated zombies before their signal was lost."
The old train station?
There is indeed an old train station nearby, which was renovated a few years ago.
But people still call it the old train station.
"What level are the mutated zombies?" Wu Heng asked.
"Not sure. The other side only managed to say a few words before we lost contact, so they might already be dead," Li Yanhong explained.
"Alright, let's get ready and check out the station."
They had no other target today, so visiting the station would be a good opportunity to collect zombie cores.
"Okay!"
After a quick preparation, Wu Heng led the skeleton army out of the residential area.
They entered the main road from the south and began heading towards the train station.
Normally, it would take about 20 minutes to walk there, and even faster by car.
But with the skeleton army moving forward and the interference from zombies along the way, their pace was much slower.
Wu Heng and Li Yanhong also walked, but since 'Big Head' Skeleton moved slowly, it was carried on the shoulders of 'Big Guy' Skeleton.
The two skeletons together looked like a giant with two heads.
The march of the skeletons created quite a bit of noise.
Zombies kept rushing out from the shops on both sides of the road, wildly attacking the skeleton army.
To avoid increasing casualties, they had to stop and fend off the zombies' attacks.
After nearly an hour, they finally approached the train station.
"The train station is just ahead," Li Yanhong pointed out.
In the distance, they could see the words "Ticket Office" and "Waiting Room" on the building.
They could also see some wandering zombies.
Wu Heng stood still and instructed 'Big Head' Skeleton, "Let the spear-wielding skeletons advance."
Clatter!
The spear-wielding skeletons pointed their spears forward and began to advance slowly.
The zombies inside the train station turned their attention to the skeletons and, with a series of roars, charged madly at them.
Thud, thud, thud!
The horde of zombies collided with the spear formation.
The first wave of zombies was skewered by the spears, while those behind fell in waves to the relentless stabs.
The sound of spears piercing flesh echoed continuously.
"Send in the cleaver-wielding skeletons to finish off the rest," Wu Heng ordered.
The cleaver-wielding skeletons quickly flanked the spear-wielding ones, surrounding the zombie horde.
The scene turned into a slaughter as the skeletons attacked the zombies.
The sound of hacking and growling filled the area, and the zombies fell one by one.
Li Yanhong watched the scene with wide eyes.
These skeletons were completely different from before.
Wu Heng could command them while standing still, and the skeletons fought with far more efficiency, no longer needing him to constantly adjust their positions as before.
It was as if these skeletons had truly become an army, working in perfect harmony.
Soon, the zombies outside the building were cleared out.
The stone-paved ground was covered with bodies, blood flowing like a stream into the drains.
"Let's go," Wu Heng said.
"Alright!" Li Yanhong carefully avoided the bodies, following closely behind Wu Heng.
The battle was over even faster than their journey here.
They arrived at the entrance of the waiting room.
The first floor was empty, as the noise from the fight had drawn the zombies inside to the front.
"Did they say where the mutated zombies were?" Wu Heng asked.
The station was quite large, and if they were nearby, they should have been drawn out as well.
"No."
Wu Heng glanced around and summoned Xiaoxiao.
"What's up, uncle?" Xiaoxiao floated in the air and asked.
"Take a look around and see if there are any survivors or mutated zombies," Wu Heng instructed.
"Got it!" Xiaoxiao answered and floated away.
Thud, thud, thud!
Just then, a group of zombies tumbled down the stairs from the second floor, rushing towards them.
"Spear soldiers, advance," Wu Heng ordered.
Clatter!
The spear soldiers leveled their spears, bracing for the incoming zombies.
.........
After the zombies from the second floor were almost dealt with, Xiaoxiao flew back.
She pointed towards the upper floor and said, "Uncle, there are survivors up there, and two big dogs."
Big dogs?
Level 1 mutated hounds.
"How many survivors?" Wu Heng asked.
Xiaoxiao counted on her fingers and then spread out one hand, "Five."
"Alright, take the skeleton hounds up there and kill those two bad dogs. Don't let them escape, and don't let the mutated hounds kill the survivors," Wu Heng instructed.
"Understood." Xiaoxiao waved her hand, "Teddy, Little Grey, you guys come with me."
With that, she led the way upstairs.
The skeleton hounds and skeleton cats followed, charging out of the skeleton ranks and heading upstairs.
.........
In the administrative office, inside a staff lounge.
Two men and three women were holding iron rods and wooden chairs, looking fearfully at the two mutated hounds in front of them.
The large dogs had dark, sleek fur, and their bodies were clad in police dog vests that had torn at the seams.
"Black Tiger, I even fed you before, you can't repay kindness with evil," one young man said to a mutated hound.
But the mutated hound's cold eyes remained fixed on him.
Its mouth dripped with thick, dark red saliva.
"What do we do? Should we jump out the window? Maybe we'll survive," another man whispered.
"This is the third floor. Jumping out and breaking a leg would still mean death," the man in front said, keeping his eyes on the mutated hound.
They were on the third floor of the station.
The first-floor hall alone was three to four stories high, so this was effectively like the fifth floor.
Unless they could fly, jumping down would be certain death.
"Then we fight these dogs. The radio said 'white matter' can enhance physical abilities, so maybe we can survive," a short-haired woman suggested.
"Alright, let's fight them."
They all agreed.
Their sudden resolve caused the mutated hounds to take two steps back.
But then their gaze hardened again, and they stepped forward.
The survivors' faces paled, and they raised their makeshift weapons towards the hounds.
In the next moment.
The mutated hounds lunged.
Their foul-smelling jaws clamped down on one person's wooden rod.
With frenzied tugs, the rod was torn from the person's grip and flung aside.
The mutated hounds' eyes grew even fiercer.
With a powerful leap, the two hounds pounced again.
Clatter!
Suddenly, the sound of bones clashing came from behind.
Then a child's voice rang out.
"Attack, kill those bad dogs."
Clatter!
Several skeletal animals rushed in.
The mutated hounds turned tail and ran.
The survivors in the room gaped.
They watched in astonishment as a ghostly child floated in the air, directing skeletons to chase the zombie dogs.
