Chapter 61: Squad Coordination
Chapter 61: Squad Coordination
Soon, the alluring woman returned with the cocktail.
The Foggy Cocktail was a somewhat unique drink, emitting a faint white mist and a pleasant aroma.
"Anything else, sir?" the woman asked again.
"Not for now," Wu Heng smiled and shook his head.
The woman glanced around at the other customers, and seeing no new ones entering, she sat down beside him on the sofa, smiling, "First time here, sir?"
"Yes, I don’t usually come to this area."
"You must live in the central district, then. You’re nothing like those mercenaries," she said.
"Oh? What makes you say that?" Wu Heng looked at her.
The woman leaned closer, her body pressing against his as she whispered, "Look at them—the way they speak, their gestures, their skin. You don’t seem like a mercenary at all."
"Hearing you say that, I suppose you’re right." Wu Heng took a sip of his drink and asked, "What’s your name?"
"Benny! Does it sound nice?"
"It does. It suits you."
"Thank you. And you, sir? How should I address you?"
"Rudger."
They chatted for a bit, becoming more familiar with each other.
Wu Heng casually glanced toward the stairs and asked, "What about that guy? He’s been standing there for a while."
Benny followed his gaze and saw the bearded man at the top of the stairs. She whispered, "Just a guest at the inn—he’s scruffy, but he’s got money. Been staying here for days."
"Oh, wearing leather armor in a tavern—I thought he was a bouncer!"
"No, just a regular guest. He’s supposed to check out in a few days, so no one bothers him. He likes standing there," Benny explained.
"I see."
At that moment, new customers entered, and Benny quickly got up to attend to them.
Wu Heng slipped another silver coin into her hand as she left.
Feeling the coin in her palm, the smile on Benny’s face grew even warmer, "I’ll come back once I’m done."
She then turned to greet the newcomers.
Wu Heng took another sip of his drink before standing up with Barson to leave.
.........
After exiting the tavern,
Wu Heng returned to the second floor of the building across the street.
Entering the room, all three members looked at him as Otruluk asked, "Did you find the targets?"
"Yes, all three are in the tavern. One’s guarding the stairs, and the other two are in the second room to the right at the top of the stairs," Wu Heng replied directly.
In the tavern, he had spotted the man guarding the stairs.
The other two were seen through Xiaoxiao’s vision, confirming that all three were indeed inside the tavern.
After hearing this, the three frowned.
"How do you know that so clearly?" Yuli asked.
She had flown around as a terror raven without spotting them, yet he knew their exact locations within minutes?
"I tipped the staff and got the information. They also mentioned that the men plan to check out in a few days. If we don’t catch them now, they’ll be hard to find later," Wu Heng explained.
Paying for information—definitely a viable method.
Otruluk continued, "Yuli, you stay outside and keep an eye out in case they try to escape. Wu Heng, you come with us inside to catch them."
"Wait! Why can’t I go inside to catch them?" Yuli raised her hand to ask.
Kavina smiled and explained, "If anyone tries to run, you’re more likely to catch them."
Someone had to stay outside, after all.
Inside the chaotic tavern, finding the targets would be harder than watching the door.
Wu Heng needed to identify the targets quickly to make the arrest.
Having Yuli stay outside likely also stemmed from concern for her—this was her first mission, after all, and she’d joined through the back door.
This mission was one they’d taken on themselves, not one assigned by the Guild.
"Alright then," Yuli nodded in agreement.
"No worries, I’ll have Barson stay with you."
Wu Heng started donning leather armor, followed by a bandit mask and leather helmet.
He had shown his face in the tavern earlier, and it would be awkward to go back in without some disguise.
"No need, let’s stick to the captain’s plan."
Otruluk didn’t want to waste any more time, so he said, "Alright, let’s head down and be careful."
"Got it!" the three nodded.
After preparing, they went straight down the stairs and headed toward the tavern.
As they approached, the man selling potions smiled and walked over again.
But upon seeing Otruluk in full silver armor, he quickly lowered his head, pretending to look around before turning and leaving.
No one paid him any attention as they headed straight into the tavern.
As soon as they pushed the door open,
the wanted man at the top of the stairs immediately turned pale and bolted.
Wu Heng pointed and shouted, "Captain, that guy’s running!"
"Get him!"
Clatter!
They shoved through the crowd, charging up the stairs.
Barson and Kavina were the fastest, quickly reaching the second floor and rushing up the stairs.
Bang~!
The fleeing man kicked open a door and shouted, "Guild members, they’re..."
Before he could finish, someone kicked him to the ground.
The wanted man rolled and immediately pulled out a short blade, his eyes cold and hostile.
Kavina was the first to attack, her sword flashing as she slashed at him.
Clang~!
The wanted man blocked with his blade, the sound of metal clashing ringing out in the room.
Nearby, Barson, wielding dual blades, charged at another man, and they clashed instantly.
The third wanted man pulled a long sword from under the bed, just about to assist his companions when he saw Otruluk and Wu Heng entering the room.
Bang, bang, bang~!
Gunshots rang out.
Orange bullets tore through two of them.
The two fell to the ground, lifeless.
The last man, seeing the situation was dire, leapt out the window.
Wu Heng quickly moved to the window but hesitated to fire with people below.
Instead, he cast 【Dancing Lights】.
In an instant, four floating orbs of light surrounded the escaping wanted man.
Wu Heng had recently figured out that Dancing Lights could be used on a specific target, as long as they remained within a certain range.
The man stumbled upon landing, flailing his sword at the orbs around him.
Seeing no effect, he continued to run away, now glowing like a walking light bulb in the dark.
"Yuli!" Wu Heng called out.
"Got it! But I don’t know if I can handle it; this is my first real fight."
Before her words even finished, a wolf was already sprinting after the target.
Wu Heng glanced back, then jumped out of the window with Barson.
The Dancing Lights spell had a limited range, so the target couldn’t get too far from him.
Since the tavern was on the second floor, the jump was a bit high.
Barson landed smoothly, while Wu Heng stumbled a bit but managed to stay on his feet, only feeling a bit of numbness in his legs.
Otruluk and Kavina, after slitting the throats of the two wanted men, were about to jump down as well.
But before they could, a group of mercenaries burst into the room.
The tavern owner glared at them with a displeased expression.
Otruluk glanced at Kavina, "You go help them."
Kavina nodded and jumped out the window.
The tavern owner narrowed his eyes, suppressing his anger, "Captain Otruluk, I need an explanation."
