Chapter 163: Years Flying By
__________ POV Beru __________
Three years, three years have passed since anything major has occurred.
I got to see Toga become a hero in this time, as odd as that sight was, at least she's happy.
Hearing about her cutting up villains in the street is quite endearing. I mean, she never really liked doing anything all day, so now she's mostly out on patrol.
Izuku's class also graduated in this time, they all seem to be eager to get some recognition for their strength.
I bet they're all waiting for something to happen just so they can stop it. But no large organization has even gotten close to Japan, half of it is from my infamy, the other half is from Don pulling the strings.
Plenty of things have happened in these years... Like Izuku finally being able to kiss a girl(Ochako) and Bakugo actually throwing fewer temper tantrums.
The Todoroki family is doing ok, I guess. Haven't heard much from any member of it. Shoto does sometimes still spar with me, but he doesn't really speak on family matters anymore.
What's more interesting is Endeavor retiring, I guess he didn't really feel like a proper hero after the whole 'making my son become a villain' thing.
I mean, he still deals with villains if they show up in his district, he just doesn't wear spandex anymore(the true sign of a hero).
The dude is currently still trying to mend relationships with his family. Dunno if that's working out though, but Toshinori did mention that his wife moved back in with him, so at least that's something.
I actually celebrated all of my birthdays since back then, I am now 21 years old and Nemuri is getting dangerously close to asking for a ring.
I will get one for her... Eventually.
Yori said that the distribution of the cure is coming along nicely, but he still couldn't get to everyone on the globe.
Meaning that there are still chances of people blowing up due to 'Quirk Factor Overload', well, blowing up is what can happen.
Quirks are a fickle thing, after all, the consequences usually differ due to the nature of the quirk.
A strength enhancing quirk will have the user's limbs explode, the same can't be said about a fire quirk.
An overcharged fire quirk would most likely produce something similar to my fight against the clones a few years back, just a bit less controlled...
Yori and Don have both been doing their parts with the distribution aspect of things, I don't have much to add or to help with in that area. I'd much rather stick to my guns and only help in experiments from time to time.
Lately, I spend most of my time helping around at the Gym, with Toga or with Nemuri.
At night, I go out drinking with a few old friends from time to time. Like Nao, Aizawa, Toshi and Nezu.
Snipe got a ban from drinking because Thirteen didn't like the smell of alcohol in the bedroom...
That poor dog. He is being denied his passion, the one thing he was exceedingly good at...
Now that I think about it, he's also a hero. I've only seen him at school though, so I guess he's more of a part-time hero/full-time teacher.
The most exciting thing to happen during these three years was Lady Nagant being released from prison.
Well, she's no longer a hero, nor does she want to become one ever again, but she's rather happy living a quiet life in the middle of the woods.
She is living with her mother in that cabin that we've built, I also visit her from time to time, just to talk about random stuff or make some more room in the cabin.
I never knew that building a house could be such fun. I guess it helps that no work can ever be physically challenging to me in any way.
Currently, I am sitting around a small table, with Yori and Don. In the room, there's a large screen that can be clearly seen by everyone when sitting down.
Now, what exactly would garner enough interest to bring the three of us together in this way? We are all busy people after all...
Well, that's something a bit harder to explain. I'll let the news report do it for me.
"This afternoon, a large sinkhole has appeared in the middle of the city of Cairo! In the middle of it used to be the largest hospital in Egypt, no nothing more than a hole that has swallowed up at least half of the city!"
The shocked face of the new's anchor says it all really, I don't need a translator to tell me that shit's fucked.
On the screen, all of us could see a strange sight. A large hole appeared seemingly out of nowhere in the middle of one of Africa's largest cities. The capital of Egypt.
"... That's not good news..." Don said as he narrowed his eyes a bit, looking at the catastrophe on the screen with a wary gaze.
"... The odds of it being a natural disaster are nonexistent. The modern systems that Egypt uses would've detected such a large disaster easily..." Yori's expression also seems rather grave...
"It's too soon to start assuming things~" I said with a hopeful tone.
In truth, none of us was expecting this type of development to happen so abruptly.
"Experts believe this to be some sort of undetected natural disaster, yet many also speculate that it might've been caused by some villain's quirk.
The situation is still under investigation as efforts are being made to rescue any citizen still living inside the large sinkhole..."
The images showed thousands of people trying their best to climb in and out of the sinkhole and look for survivors. Countless volunteers and heroes looking to help in any way they could.
"A villain's quirk, huh?" Don's smile seems a bit mocking, I guess he's right to laugh at that statement though.
"Yeah... If there was a villain this powerful in the world, we would've heard of him." Yori also seems to dismiss that notion... This means that there's only really one option left.
"I guess we've got the first case on our hands...~ 'Quirk Factor Overload'~" I was the first to state the obvious. The other two didn't bother refuting it, no question about whether or not this is the case.
"We'll have to look deeper into this. This is far sooner than I expected..." Yori looks a bit befuddled.
"Likely a quirk awakened at birth~ Likely something to do with earth manipulation or creating holes~ The middle was supposed to be a hospital right?~" Don nodded a bit to my question.
The anchor also mentioned the hospital, but I just want to be 100% sure of this.
"I guess we can look in whatever records there are left to see any registry to match the time of the event," Yori said as he looked at the sinkhole with a concerned eye.
There's also a large amount of unease in them. I guess him getting his prediction wrong was what caused the unease.
"No reason to be so worried~ This is likely an isolated case~ A powerful quirk came out of nowhere and ruined stuff~ It will happen~ We're still far from having these situations be widespread~"
My words seem to have calmed him down a bit... Still, even an isolated case is enough...
We have to get prepared for the worst from now on.
It's pretty clear that the QFO(Quirk Factor Overload) cases won't just affect the person that has too much quirk factor. The people around are in considerable danger.
It's unknown how many have died in this incident alone, the survivors have yet to be counted, let alone the casualties.
"Let's start looking into this for now..." Don said as he sighed a bit.
"I can't do much to help with that~ Do call me as soon as something comes out to light~" I got up and started leaving.
The two of them just nodded, I guess they're still pondering over this incident. It can't really be helped, it's impossible to distribute the cure to everyone.
Still, I guess things will become a bit more hectic from now on... Right when I got comfortable with my normal life...
