Another World Reincarnation Chronicle

Chapter 206

Raven charged into the midst of the battlefield. The immense mass uprooted the ground, sending the undead army beneath it scattered like leaves in the wind.

Before leaping down from Raven’s back, I surveyed the situation. Overall, it appeared that the allied forces were being pushed back, yet the heads of the Mage Tower, who could be called our utmost strength, were unable to act directly.

It was likely due to the higher demons felt not far away.

From a distance, demons observed the situation with relaxed expressions, each clutching a Magic Book. Their sizes and appearances varied, yet the ominous mana emanating from them was uniformly dark in hue.

At that moment, Eres, who was also examining the battlefield, stepped forward and raised her hands. The queen of the elves had intervened herself.

Paaah-!

As a soft yet warm light enveloped the battlefield, the World Tree rooted in Raven’s back began to grow.

Its roots and branches expanded, and soon the once large World Tree became gigantic enough to obscure the sky of this battlefield.

Simultaneously, the World Tree moved. Its massive roots detached from Raven’s back and planted themselves right in the middle of the battlefield, upturning the earth and sending everything nearby flying.

The long-reaching roots stimulated the growth of surrounding plants. As if time were fast-forwarded, robust grasses and gigantic trees grew rapidly, forming a colossal wall between the allied forces and the undead army.

Thus, a brief lull descended over the battlefield.

The shouts and screams that had been echoing through the ground fell silent, replaced by an awkward stillness.

The allied soldiers, a mix of orcs and humans, looked up in tension at the massive whale above them.

I furrowed my brows and leaped down quickly from Raven’s back. The orcs, with their bulging veins, seemed like they would charge at Raven any moment.

“Are you… Seris?”

Just as I landed harshly against the wind, I heard a voice mixed with mana from not too far off.

“Haiven?”

“What on earth… is this whale…?”

Haiven shot me a look that seemed to ask for an explanation. I glanced up at Raven and nodded in response.

“I’ve brought reinforcements.”

“That whale is the reinforcements…?”

“It’s a kid named Raven. Of course, Raven isn’t alone.”

As soon as I finished my sentence, a gentle breeze swept through. It wasn’t the cold chill brought by Raven, but rather a soft wind filled with warmth.

Leaves danced in the air and began to converge around me, forming the shape of a woman. Eres had moved directly to my side.

“You are…”

Haiven, with his special eyes, could probably discern that the woman before him was not a human but an elf, even without explicit explanation.

As I had anticipated, Haiven’s gaze remained fixated on Eres’s pointed ears.

“Our elves…”

Kwaaaang-!

At the moment Eres’s voice drifted out, a massive explosion erupted unexpectedly, causing a section of the wall created by Eres to collapse.

Undead poured through the gaps, their ominous mana swirling chaotically. With a frown, Eres waved her hand in the air as she spoke.

“It seems we don’t have time for a lengthy conversation… Regardless, we elves will join the fight.”

Haiven nodded vacantly at Eres’s statement. Simultaneously, a green-hued mana formed a gigantic longbow in Eres’s hands. Though she was using mana, its core was driven by the power of spirits.

It was then that Eres pulled back the bowstring of the longbow she had created.

Saaaaaaa—

The strength of the wind, which had been gathering slowly, began to pick up speed. What had felt soft and warm transformed into a biting storm filled with sharp blades.

Piiing-!

With a grimace, Eres released a transparent arrow of wind from her hand. As the fierce gale shot forth like a flash, the incoming undead were torn apart in its wake.

Kwaagaga-gaga-!

That attack was the signal. The war, which had been at a lull, reignited with cries and screams.

The elves’ participation helped reestablish balance, mitigating human casualties significantly thanks to long-range attacks with the wind spirit and Raven’s performance as the winter whale.

“Seris… are you okay?”

“Ah, yes. I’m fine.”

I nodded at Haiven’s question. He seemed to be worried about the blood on my clothes. More importantly, I had to report on my reconnaissance findings.

I recounted all the information I had gathered from Skasha’s territory to Haiven—the Dragon’s Bones, the Crystal Stones, and even the glimpse he had shown me of his inner world.

In talking, one strange detail caught my attention. Skasha, who had fought me directly, would certainly be aware of the humans’ presence here.

However, I could find no trace of Skasha in this battlefield.

“Is that so? You’ve worked hard. You should take a break for now.”

“No, I can’t do that.”

“Are you really alright…? What about your condition…?”

I shook my head at Haiven’s suggestion, furrowing my brows. My body hadn’t fully recovered, but I couldn’t afford to rest now when everyone was fighting for my comfort.

Even without Skasha, strong higher demons were lurking nearby, looking for an opportunity.

Puhhheeeing-!

At that moment, I heard the sudden sound of horses whinnying not too far away, followed by the sound of heavy hooves approaching fast.

Thud- thud- thud-

The powerful rhythm felt heavy yet swift. How could I not recognize it? My friend, Nightmare.

“Nightmare!”

Puhhheeeing-!

As Nightmare approached in its massive form, it circled around me, wildly wagging its tail. Given the many cuts on its body, it seemed it had been fighting the undead alongside humans.

Sniff sniff, as Nightmare smelled the air, it stuck out its long tongue, slobbering all over my cheek. While I appreciated the affection, the sticky saliva made me feel a bit queasy.

“Ugh…”

I pushed Nightmare’s face away with a grimace.

Plooorrrk-

Though it worried me that Skasha hadn’t visited directly, that was perhaps a good thing in this context.

What it was preparing, I didn’t know, but it was right to use this opportunity to wipe out all the demons currently here.

I jumped up and landed on Nightmare’s back. Whether it was happy to fight alongside me after a long time, it snorted, exhaling rough breaths.

Plooorrrk-

“Shall we run together after so long?”

Preparing to fight alongside Nightmare, I began my preparations. With my mana circle not fully healed, I would use it only minimally. I cloaked my whole body in a barrier for defense while also altering my physique.

Next, I drew the golden sword.

Swoosh—

As the power of [Golden Fragrance of Greed] activated within the sword, gold began to rain down from all directions.

However, the amount wasn’t as plentiful as usual. My condition wasn’t great, so the total amount of gold I could control had decreased.

Using the gold I gathered, I clad Nightmare in mana armor.

“Seris.”

“Yes?”

Just as I was about to take off with Nightmare, Haiven’s sudden call made me turn my head.

“Don’t force yourself in. If the higher demons join the fray, you… would be…”

His gaze was filled with concern. I nodded at Haiven’s stare, gripping Nightmare’s bridle.

Thud-thud-thud!

With all its strength, Nightmare kicked off the ground. A white Crystal Stone formed behind it, and a storm of mana burst forth around Nightmare’s body.

“Haah!”

The distance was closed in an instant. I dove into the heart of the undead army alongside Nightmare. Wrapped in golden mana armor, Nightmare charged through anything blocking its path.

“Seris!”

In the midst of the battlefield. I spotted the water-colored hair amongst the formations of Death Knights and higher demons. It was Su and Shu, my twin swordsman friends.

Familiar faces appeared behind the two children—a red-haired female swordsman, Celyon, and Foldrin, head of the Paladin order. Even Dragon’s Blood’s Red Wind and Blue Calm were there.

The higher undead surrounded by such powerful forces obstructed the advance of regular soldiers. I leaped into their midst, swinging my sword.

Kaaang-!

Though I didn’t imbue my sword with mana, the sheer force within it began to push the undead back.

“Get out quickly!”

The first to escape were Su and Shu. Unlike the others who still seemed able to fight, those two appeared particularly worn out.

There was no time for thanks. While paving a path for Su and Shu, I pulled on Nightmare’s bridle and soared into the sky.

Swoosh!

Simultaneously, Nightmare created footholds in front of it. The white Crystal Stone platform shattered as Nightmare’s body took to the skies.
