Chapter 181
It turned out quite well. The Karma Empire is home to many renowned artisans, so while tracking the Dark Mage, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to find a tailor who can handle the breath of a dragon.
“Shall we set off right away?”
“The sooner, the better.”
Haiven nodded at my response.
I began preparing with Rain. I stuffed everything I could from the Mage Tower into my bag, including the robe that indicated my affiliation and various artifacts for unexpected situations.
With my bulging bag in hand, I headed to the room where the twins were staying. Su and Shu’s eyes widened in surprise as they saw their friend coming in with a large bag.
“Seris? What’s with that bag?”
“Where are you going? Is it a mission from the Mage Tower?”
I nodded and briefly explained the mission to the two kids, mentioning that we need to head to the Karma Empire and that I could send them back to their hometown if they wanted.
Of course, I didn’t mention anything about the Dark Mage. The detailed contents of the mission couldn’t be disclosed to outsiders.
However, Su and Shu shook their heads.
“We’re not going back to our hometown. Take us to the Karma Empire, too.”
The twins were already quite skilled as swordsmen. Instead of worrying unnecessarily, it would be better to support the future they were going to shape.
Thus, our party heading to the Karma Empire totaled four: Rain, myself, and the twins, Su and Shu. The four of us left the Mage Tower and boarded the enormous golden airship.
Some wizards showed great curiosity about the Gold Return Ship, but when I explained we were going to carry out a mission instructed by Haiven, they nodded and stepped back.
“Wow…”
Upon boarding the airship, Rain looked around in awe, seemingly entranced by the sparkling gold.
“Is… this made of gold?”
“Specifically, it’s made from dragon materials.”
“D-dragon…”
Now that I thought about it, I hadn’t explained it in detail to Rain. I nodded and smiled gently.
“Curious about how we got this golden airship?”
“Ah, yes! I want to hear about it!”
“Alright. I’ll explain after we arrive at the Karma Empire.”
“What…? You’ll explain after we get there? Can’t you just explain on the way?”
“Well, that’s…”
I smiled at Rain’s words and drew the golden sword. It would be better for her to experience how fast this airship was rather than explain a hundred times.
“You’re a wizard, so why are you… uh…?”
Rain was dazedly muttering as she gazed at the golden sword I pulled out. Suddenly, she seemed to sense something and turned her head.
What she looked at was none other than the energy source of the airship, the Core of Mana. The Core, made from dragon eggs, emanated a gentle light and released a heavy presence.
“What is this…?”
“I’ll explain that too. After we arrive.”
I postponed the detailed explanation for later. Before Rain could respond, I planted the golden sword into the ground.
Woooom-!
At that instant, the massive structure began to react. The Core of Mana started spinning and began to spread blue mana throughout the entire Gold Return Ship.
Fueled by vast mana, the airship began to overheat as numerous spells activated simultaneously. As the magic circles, drawn by the flow of mana, shone brightly, the airship started to move.
Boom-!
Like a dragon flapping its wings, a fierce storm erupted, shooting us into the sky. The trees below couldn’t withstand the storm and uprooted, causing significant damage.
“W-what in the world… Is this an airship…? No, it feels like the Mage Tower itself is moving…?”
“Then let’s take off.”
Confirming that we had reached a sufficient altitude, I immediately launched the airship. As the massive hull spat out the storm and shot forward, a dazed Rain rolled off and crashed into a corner.
“Eek…”
Boom!
The moment the speed of the Gold Return Ship broke through the sound barrier, a tremendous thunderous sound erupted. The mana flow streaked up into the sky, scattering along with the clouds.
As we approached the capital of the Karma Empire, an issue arose in my mind. Where the heck would I set down this shining golden behemoth?
Its colossal size meant we couldn’t dock at the port. Nor could we leave it in the woods. If we were to set this giant down on flat ground, it would look like a sudden mountain of gold had popped up.
The greedy humans would surely swarm like ants trying to get their hands on this gold.
Time passed, and the Karma Empire grew closer. When we reached the sky above the Karma Empire, I came up with a solution.
Let’s leave it floating in the air. If we didn’t turn off the engines and left it be, it could remain suspended without any passengers.
Getting back on board wouldn’t be an issue either. With this golden sword, I could summon the Gold Return Ship.
“Everyone, get ready to disembark.”
“We’ve already… arrived? But I can’t see anything?”
Rain stood up in a daze at my words, looking out of the airship with a look of disbelief.
Her reaction was understandable. We had flown high enough that the airship wouldn’t be seen from below. As a normal human, Rain wouldn’t be able to see the capital of the Karma Empire beneath the clouds.
Su and Shu didn’t raise any objections to my decision. They simply walked towards the entrance, which only showed the blue sky.
“W-wait…! You’re not saying we’re jumping down from there, right?”
Rain gazed at me in shock, and who could blame her? I lightly chuckled and nodded.
“He-hey… You mean to jump from the sky…? The ground isn’t even visible?”
“Don’t worry.”
In that moment, as Su and Shu were about to step towards the entrance, they turned to me.
“Shall we go first?”
“This is our second time falling…”
Without hesitation, the kids jumped towards the sky, each leaving one last word behind. I grabbed the pale-faced, trembling Rain and leapt after them.
“Yaaaaah!”
The rough wind brushed against me as I started spinning. As my cape billowed behind me and my long hair tangled wildly, the small wind that always swirled around me began to move.
Whoosh—!
The wide-spread wind transformed into a massive mountain breeze. Like the gentle wind blowing on a warm spring day, the wind spirit wrapped around Su, Shu, and Rain, and me.
Our falling speed noticeably decreased. It was like descending with feathers, riding the wind as we passed through fluffy white clouds.
As we got closer to the ground, the capital of the Karma Empire appeared. The tiny castle and human figures grew larger as we descended.
“Woah… Wow…”
Rain, who had been screaming and flailing about, quickly seemed to calm down and gazed below with shining eyes. Seeing the faint mana swirling around her body, it looked like she had gained new inspiration from the experience.
We landed on a spot in the center of the plaza of the Karma Empire’s capital. Citizens taking a stroll in front of the large fountain and the guards wandering around fixed their gazes on us.
Even though it was an unauthorized entry, it wouldn’t be much of an issue. Perhaps the clothes we wore served as proof of our identities. As we landed from the breeze and tidied ourselves up, the guards approached us.
“Um, excuse me…”
The guards were extraordinarily cautious. Their eyes were locked onto Rain and me. More specifically, on the wizard robes we were wearing.
“I am Seris from the Tower of Dawn. This is Rain, also from the Tower of Dawn. And these are my friends… Su and Shu.”
Wizards don’t require complex entry procedures. The same applies to their companions. The guards who had approached nodded slowly and began to step back.
Through their reaction, I was once again reminded of the status the wizards of the Mage Tower had in this world.
“Well, then shall we part ways here?”
I looked back at Su and Shu. The two kids had returned to the Karma Empire as they desired. I was open to continuing our adventures together if they wished, of course, after handling the Mage Tower’s mission first.
“Part ways?”
“You mean from us?”
The kids were taken aback, clearly not having considered the idea of parting with me.
“I have a mission from the Mage Tower.”
“Can’t we help?”
“Hmm…”
I shook my head at Su’s question. Unfortunately, that was not possible. If Rain hadn’t been with me, I wouldn’t mind moving together, disregarding the rules of the Mage Tower.
“Then let’s make a promise: after the mission, we’ll venture together again.”
It wasn’t an unkeepable promise. I nodded and took Su’s hand. His callused hand was a testament to his long hours of sword training.
The little girl Su, who used to carry firewood in the village, had soft hands back then…
I left behind my reluctance and bid farewell to the twins.
“Let’s start moving soon.”
“Aren’t we unpacking?”
I nodded at Rain’s question. If I hadn’t seen that ominous purple mana, I would have followed her suggestion and found an inn to unpack first.
“I felt like something was close by.”
“Close by…?”
I began walking, following the ominous mana entwined with the blue mana. Rain, who was standing dumbfounded, quickly followed behind me.
