Chapter 167
Right after recalling my past life memories, the biggest inconvenience I felt stemmed from various mishaps due to my small stature. For instance, not being able to reach the dishes placed on top of a shelf because I was too short.
I had gotten used to my small size by now, but the sudden flashes of my past life memories still delivered rather embarrassing experiences.
“This should be within reach, shouldn’t it?”
As I stood on my tiptoes, struggling, adults would come over and retrieve the items for me.
However, this place was different. The city tailored to my small height erased any alien sensations arising from those past memories.
I no longer needed to hang onto counters made for the average adult male. The shopkeepers could see me as soon as I entered.
Dwarves have many artisans. Perhaps it is due to their natural dexterity and temperament, but everything produced by their hands often appeared beautiful.
The short pants and shirts weren’t just comically ill-fitting. They were stylish and pretty. I could confidently say if I found an outfit here on the streets of the Dwarves and took it to the Celestial Realm, it would instantly become trendy.
“You want to buy clothes? But these are for Dwarves…”
“It’s fine.”
In a clothing store I entered casually, the shopkeeper frowned at my appearance but ended up shining his eyes, trailing off at the end of his sentence. He realized that my build was not that different from the Dwarves.
Not every Dwarf has a stout build. There are also slender and lean types, so it was easy to find clothes that would fit me.
I bought a lot of pants. It was inevitable because my body was beginning to exhibit more and more dragon-like traits.
The suddenly growing, plump tail was a monster that devoured pants. Therefore, I had to purchase a massive amount.
I placed a pile of pants with decent designs on the counter and asked the shopkeeper,
“Um, could you possibly make pants in this design?”
I explained to the shopkeeper about the pants I needed. Pants that had a hole big enough for my plump tail to fit through, yet closed up when the tail was absent.
The shopkeeper frowned while responding.
“A hole for the tail…? Can’t you just punch a hole and finish it up there?”
“When there’s no tail, that hole shouldn’t be visible from the outside.”
“If you have a tail, it’s there. Can it just suddenly disappear?”
Naturally, the shopkeeper made a strange face. I would too. Who in the world suddenly grows a tail and makes it disappear repeatedly?
But it was necessary. If I continued my travels, I might need to pull out my tail without having spare pants.
Not every Dwarf has a beard, but most do. Very long ones. Some that reach their belly buttons.
This shopkeeper also belonged to that majority. He frowned, sweeping his long beard down, as if a vague memory had floated to the surface.
The shopkeeper said,
“Um… let me think. That might be possible.”
“Oh? What do you mean?”
As I questioned back, the shopkeeper moved his fingers. Tap tap tap, every time his stubby fingers tapped the counter, a deep sound echoed through the shop.
“They say if you make clothes with a certain herb found near the Dragon’s Cradle, the clothes will revert to their original form even if they tear. Of course, whether you can fetch that herb is questionable.”
Clothes with restoration capabilities seemed hard to believe. But that very fact made it a story I could believe even more.
This was a place where ships flew in the sky and trains ran over the sea. So, what’s wrong with clothes regenerating themselves? This world was one where all imaginable things occurred. Adventurers needed to think broader.
“Do you know the name and appearance of that herb?”
I was already planning a trip to the Dragon’s Cradle. If given the chance, I could procure that herb and request a crafting commission from the artisans here.
“It’s probably called Dragon’s Scale. I haven’t seen it myself, but… if you’re curious, buy a Plant Encyclopedia and read it. It should have the name, picture, and uses recorded within.”
After hearing the shopkeeper’s answer, I paid for the clothes and exited the shop. The Plant Encyclopedia he mentioned could be purchased at a nearby General Store, which seemed to be of high quality too, crafted with care by some artisan.
“Hmm…”
I bought a long loaf of bread from a nearby Bakery and sat down in a suitable spot. It was a flowerbed blooming with pretty flowers. It wasn’t too high, so my feet touched the ground.
Puh-hehng – Puh-hehng –
The Nightmare was munching on the bread I shared while chasing after a fluttering butterfly nearby. The sight of a tiny pony bouncing around seemed so cute that Dwarves passing by began tossing food at the Nightmare.
Of course, it did not pick just anything.
“Let’s see…”
I tore off some bread while unfolding the Plant Encyclopedia. It contained various knowledge about plants, and as I flipped through the pages quickly, I stumbled upon the information on the herb I was searching for.
[Dragon’s Breath]
“Dragon’s Breath” is a plant mainly found in the Dragon’s Cradle, a habitat of dragons. Found only in areas where transcendent beings reside…
Appearance and Characteristics:
Despite being a special plant, the appearance of Dragon’s Breath is no different from common weeds found on the streets. However, it contains a significant amount of concentrated mana…
Properties and Magical Effects:
Due to its unique mana, Dragon’s Breath is often used as various magical ingredients. When used in healing potions, it exhibits incredible effects, and occasionally serves as a material for clothing. Clothes crafted by a true artisan possess a characteristic of natural restoration even if torn…
Harvesting and Preservation:
As a plant found in a dragon’s habitat, it’s nearly impossible to collect. If one carelessly ventures into the Dragon’s Cradle, they would surely incur the dragon’s wrath and perish without leaving a soul behind. Only those invited to the Dragon’s Cradle…
“Hmm…”
The plant encyclopedia also contained information on various other plants aside from the Dragon’s Breath. Perhaps it’s because of the different ecosystems compared to the Celestial Realm?
Many unique and bizarre herbs were listed. It was while flipping through the pages, learning new knowledge.
Puh-hehng!
“Oh no! What is this little thing…!”
Suddenly, I heard the sound of the Nightmare. It was small enough for its sound to be very faint.
Turning my head toward the source of the sound, I saw the Nightmare jump around, threatening a male Dwarf.
“Come here.”
The Nightmare dashed over to me as I called. The male Dwarf glanced at the Nightmare and cleared his throat.
“Ahem.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Oh, no problem. I must have interrupted the little one’s play.”
“Interrupted?”
“I chased away a butterfly that was sitting on me. It seems the little one had a mind to catch that butterfly.”
I tugged at the back of the Nightmare’s neck as it listened to the Dwarf’s explanation. The little creature was looking at me nervously, as if realizing it had done wrong.
It was fortunate I had a size-reducing artifact. If it had threatened in its original size, I wouldn’t have gotten off that easy.
I apologized to the Dwarf along with the Nightmare.
“Sorry about that.”
– Puh-hehng
“Well then, I’ll be going now.”
The Dwarf accepted my apology and turned to leave. Just then, as he looked up, the sword he wore caught my eye.
On the long scabbard, seven stars were engraved. The shape of those stars seemed familiar. Although they were no longer broken, how could I forget?
Desert, starlight, Dwarf, legend.
In a brief moment, intense memories and numerous words rushed through my mind. I hurriedly stood up and shouted.
“Hey!”
“Uh? Do you have more to say?”
The Dwarf stopped at my call. I rushed over to him, cradling the Nightmare.
“That sword. Where did you get it? I mean, who is the artisan that engraved the starlight on that scabbard?”
“You mean my sword?”
The Dwarf raised an eyebrow and smiled subtly at my question, as if he had been waiting for it.
“It’s a sword made by the disciples of Master Eos. It’s supply for the Knight Order, but even so, its quality rivals swords crafted by true masters.”
Saying this, the Dwarf drew his sword. As it unsheathed with a smooth sound, the blade reflected sunlight and scattered seven stars of light.
I was unable to hide my disappointment at the sight of the revealed blade. They didn’t hammer the starlight into the sword. They merely carved the shape of stars into the surface of the blade.
“Are you interested?”
“Where can I find this Master Eos?”
I replied to the Dwarf’s question with another question. Then, the Dwarf licked his lips and pointed toward the sky.
“Master Eos? Naturally, he’s up in that star there.”
“Up… in the star…”
“Oh, now that I see, you’re… not a Dwarf!”
The Dwarf, seemingly just realizing my identity, took a startled step back. I felt a little offended, but now wasn’t the time to concern myself with that.
I stepped closer and asked the Dwarf.
“Excuse me, could you guide me to where those disciples of Master Eos are?”
“Uh, well. That’s not hard, but… they won’t easily meet an ordinary person. You need to bring something that catches their eye…”
As soon as I heard the Dwarf’s words, I turned around and yelled.
“Wait a moment!”
The moment of instant physical reinforcement using mana began. With the radiance of a great warrior’s emblem activating, immense vigor surged through my body. I immediately sprang into motion towards the Inn.
After stopping by the Inn and retrieving my swords, it took barely a minute to return to my original spot. I exhaled heavily and showed my weapons to the Dwarf.
The twin swords, Ice Dragon Sword and Fire Dragon Sword, and the Golden Sword. The Dwarf’s expression filled with admiration upon seeing the swords I offered.
“Wh, wonderful swords…”
“With these, they should be willing to meet me, right?”
The Dwarf nodded in agreement.
