Another World Reincarnation Chronicle

Chapter 134

After finishing breakfast, we headed straight to the Adventurer’s Guild. My adventurer rank in the Karma Empire is Silver. When I approached the receptionist to check if there were any requested quests assigned to me, I found out that the request that Su and Shu had received was also assigned to me.

“I’ll take it.”

“This request?”

“Yes.”

“Hmm… it’s not really a recommended request…”

The receptionist trailed off and shook his head at my reply. However, when I insisted, he reluctantly stamped the request form for me.

With the request accepted, both Su and Shu also took the task just like I did.

“A ruin in the sea… how exactly are we going to explore that ruin…”

“Are they planning to have the adventurers dive?”

“Sigh…”

I guess being twins had its perks? Su and Shu started exchanging opinions based on the contents written on the request form.

“It’s highly likely we’ll have to enter the sea.”

“Since we’re going out to the ocean, we should probably pack plenty of dried fruit and drinking water. The client can only provide so much.”

I chatted with the two kids while leaving the Adventurer’s Guild. The mission is set to begin in a week. Since there wasn’t much to prepare immediately, we headed straight to the inn.

As we approached the inn, the conversation turned to my skills as a swordsman. It seemed there were doubts about whether my proficiency earned from wandering various countries with a minimum of a Silver Grade Badge and a maximum of a Gold Grade Badge was genuine.

“Do you really want to see?”

“Yep.”

“Yeah!”

If they were so eager, I had no reason not to show them. With a light smile, I made my way to a small clearing behind the inn. It was a suitable spot to demonstrate swordsmanship as it was a storage area for various items used at the inn.

I placed my hands on my hips and turned to look at Su and Shu.

“So, who will go first?”

“Who’s going first?”

“Weren’t we going to show swordsmanship?”

The two looked puzzled, tilting their heads. I nodded and continued.

“We will show it, but I also want to see how skilled you are.”

In short, I was suggesting we have a spar.

The first to step up among the two kids was Shu. With a tense expression, he drew his sword.

Swish!

The drawn sword shimmered with a faint blue light. The faint scent of blood mixed with oil indicated he had recently swung it to cut something.

Seeing Shu ready, I drew my own sword.

Swish—

What came out lightly was the Ice Dragon Sword. Of course, I couldn’t go all out against the two kids, so I kept the sword’s power suppressed as much as I could. Nevertheless, I couldn’t completely hide the chill emanating from the Ice Dragon Sword, and the blade glowed with a white aura.

“Wow… what’s that sword…?”

“Isn’t it cool?”

“Where on earth did you get that…?”

To be honest, it would take a while to explain. I hadn’t even started talking about the sword yet.

“I’ll tell you after the spar.”

“Well, fine…”

There was no signal to start. The duel began the moment we pointed our swords at each other.

Shu, with a face full of tension, slowly started to move. His presence was sharp, as if asserting that the Silver Grade Badge he obtained from the Swordsmanship Guild and the recognition from Celyon were no lie. Judging by his movements, it seemed he had at least stolen some techniques from Celyon.

As I watched Shu’s movements, I lightly licked my lips. Did my stature as a creature heighten? Despite facing a Silver Grade swordsman right in front of me, I felt no sense of crisis.

In that moment, Shu boldly sprang into action. As if the scouting phase was over, he quickly closed the distance with long strides.

Clang-!

At the moment our swords clashed, Shu’s sword bounced away. With his stance slightly unbalanced, Shu pulled back in a flustered manner.

The force behind his attack was light. I could sense the intention not to hurt me. Yet, that concern was unnecessary. I wasn’t so weak as to need his pity.

“Is that all the power you have? Come at me with full force.”

“Are you sure…? It’s a real sword…”

“Did you forget? In other countries, I’ve received a Gold Grade Badge. That means even if you come at me seriously, you can’t win.”

Shu nodded stiffly at my words. Gripping his sword again, he charged toward me once more.

Suddenly, Shu’s previously slow movements quickened. The ground he pushed off burst into a cloud of dust soaring into the sky.

This was a momentary physical enhancement using mana. Any ordinary opponent would have been taken aback by Shu’s sudden speed. Shu circled around, now aiming to attack from an angle outside my line of sight. I lightly turned my body and swung the Ice Dragon Sword towards where his attack would land.

Clang-!

Subsequent similar situations ensued. Shu, with a stiff expression, swung his sword continuously, but each time it was blocked by the Ice Dragon Sword which had already claimed the spot where his attack would arrive.

Clang-! Clang-!

The meeting of our swords created sparks. It seemed Shu attempted a test of strength, but it was he who was getting pushed back.

I remained firmly in place, effortlessly holding Shu’s strength with one hand. At that moment, his sword slipped and painted a chill like moonlight.

That swordsmanship, drawing moonlight. It wasn’t the flimsy technique taught by the old gatekeeper who protected the village, but rather a real Elun’s Flash.

As the sword glided smoothly, drawing an arc, I swung the Ice Dragon Sword to deflect his blade. The small vibrations created by the collision surged forward and engulfed Shu’s arm.

Zing-!

“Ugh…!”

Shu stepped back with a bewildered expression, clutching his arm. The sword he held had fallen to the ground.

This was a technique utilizing Dragon’s Pier. Instead of spreading the Pier over an unspecified number of targets, it concentrated it on one. At that moment, Shu must have felt like his arm was being fiercely bitten by the head of a gigantic monster.

I rested the Ice Dragon Sword on my shoulder and gave a light smile. I was a bit worried that the two had become adventurers like me, but with skills like this, I felt reassured. At the very least, they wouldn’t starve to death anywhere.

“W-what was that…?”

“Your hand is tingling, right?”

“Ah, ugh… that’s weird…!”

Shu looked at his right arm with a frown. After a sigh, he retrieved his sword from the ground.

“You’re really strong…”

“Do I look amazing?”

“Yeah…”

Next up is Su. I lightly swung my sword, aiming at Su.

“Your turn.”

“Do I have to?”

“Yep. I want to see your skills.”

Eventually, Su drew his sword and stepped forward. Unlike the sharp presence of Shu, a low, eerie aura emanated from Su. They must have trained in the same swordsmanship, so why did they exude such different auras?

The moment a low breath escaped Su’s lips, a straight flash suddenly shot out.

Clang-!

A sharp strike aimed at my opening. When the attack ended in failure, Su widened the distance. His retrieved sword wobbled faintly. It seemed he only used mana for physical reinforcement at crucial moments.

Unlike Shu, Su clearly understood my weaknesses and his advantages. He maintained minimal distance where my attacks couldn’t reach, using his long arms and legs.

Of course, this only worked when I didn’t move. I took a large step toward Su, who wasn’t coming closer.

The strike aimed at me abruptly adjusted its trajectory. Between the disrupted moonlight in the air, the chill of the Ice Dragon Sword slipped through.

Clang!

The swordsmanship was not completed. The disrupted moonlight shattered along with sparks, sending Su’s sword flying into the air.

“You lost…”

Since he was using physical enhancement with mana, his talent for mana was quite high as well. I felt I could safely pass on the martial arts technique I created to the two. If they wanted, I could even help them become wizards. I certainly had the ability to do so.

*

A week passed. It meant the date of the quest was approaching. Over the past week, I had worked hard to teach the two kids the martial arts technique I had devised.

The martial arts I defined was a magic that laid pathways for mana to flow within the body, allowing it to travel along the designated route when the correct words were recalled. Thus, to learn this martial arts, it was essential to have a basic understanding of magic.

Fortunately, the two had a talent for magic, so they could easily grasp this martial arts technique.

The martial arts technique I taught them was a combination of Kwanghwa Dragon Island Style Art of War and Qinglong Ice Qi, leaving only the minimal set of words necessary for the technique to work, while erasing all content related to dragons.

Since I erased every spell related to dragons, the raw destructive power and momentary amplification of mana were not possible, but stability was greatly improved.

If they continued their training properly, there was no doubt they would earn a Gold Grade Badge from the Swordsmanship Guild.

“Did you pack everything you need?”

“Yeah.”

“Underwear?”

“I packed it…”

“I think we should also pack plenty of towels since we’ll be going into the sea.”

“Su…”

I sighed softly and looked up at Su, who was rummaging through my bag behind me and tilted his head in confusion.

“What?”

“I’m not a kid. I’m stronger than you.”

“I know.”

“So don’t ask obvious questions.”

“Okay.”

“If you understand, then lock the bag up.”

“Okay.”

Su nodded at my words obediently. As he yanked on the leather strap of the wide-open bag, it shrank into a tight bundle in an instant.

As I stepped out of the room with Su, I saw Shu leaning against the hallway wall, wearing leather armor. Dressed in armor, he looked like quite the skilled adventurer. This seemed to be his adventurer outfit.

“Well then, shall we go?”

This was our first quest as hometown friends. There could be no mistakes. With a confident stride, I led the way to the inn’s entrance.

Whoosh—

At the inn’s entrance, predictably, a Nightmare was waiting. It seemed the quick-witted creature had escaped from the stable on its own.

I took it for granted and leapt onto the Nightmare’s back. The view instantly elevated as I looked down at Su and Shu.

Feeling slightly triumphant, I tugged at the bridle.
