Ch4 - First Companion
Chapter 4: First Companion
Woof!?
The moment Taichi used the Taming skill, the white-gold dog was enveloped in a sparkling light. It quickly disappeared, but Taichi could tell that the taming had been successful.
“…”
(That was a bit impulsive, but is it really okay…?)
Taichi swallowed hard as he looked at the white-gold dog in front of him.
(Oh, right… I should have a skill for conversation.)
Presumably, they could communicate.
“U-um…”
When he spoke cautiously, the dog glared at him.
(Eek! It’s cute, but it’s still pretty intimidating!?)
“You dared to tame me without permission…!!”
“Oh, I-I’m sorry…”
“To think that a lone Fenrir like me would be forced to obey a tamer! How horrible!”
(Ahh, this is bad. He’s really mad…)
And it was clear that he hated Taichi.
(But at least we can talk.)
Taichi was relieved by this, but the white-gold dog—now identified as a Fenrir—continued to speak.
“Even though I defeated such a delicious-looking dragon, my mood is ruined because of you. And a human master? How laughable!”
“Ah, haha…”
Taichi was sweating nervously, knowing that he might be attacked at any moment. He had performed the taming, but the idea of trying to part ways without binding the Fenrir seemed impossible.
While he was contemplating this, he suddenly noticed something.
(Huh? The Fenrir’s tail is wagging!? And it’s so fluffy!?)
Despite his grumbling, the Fenrir’s tail was clearly wagging with happiness. Taichi tilted his head, wondering if the creature was actually pleased.
He then recalled his job.
(Maybe it’s because of the ‘Loved by Fluff’ title…?)
The Fenrir might be showing a favorable disposition toward Taichi, despite its words. Since staying alone in the forest could be dangerous, having a companion was reassuring.
“Um, if you don’t mind, would you like to join me as a companion? I know it’s not the usual time to ask after taming, but…”
“What!? You, of all people, want to make me, a solitary warrior, your companion!?”
Though the Fenrir was still angry, its tail was still wagging.
“…But, you seem very weak. It would be better if I stayed with you.”
The Fenrir snorted, seemingly agreeing to join without much resistance. Taichi had expected more opposition, but it wasn’t the case.
“Alright, then. I’m Taichi… Taichi Arima.”
“Taichi, huh? Then, give me a name.”
“Huh?”
“Typically, magical beasts don’t have names, just titles. So, when taming, it’s common for tamers to give names to the magical beasts. Isn’t that common knowledge?”
Taichi nodded, realizing he was not well-versed in his new role as a tamer, despite the cat god’s assistance.
(Guess I’ll have to do some research once we get to town.)
“Thanks for telling me. I’m still a novice tamer, and you’re my first companion.”
“What? I thought you’d be an experienced tamer… Well, whatever. Quickly give me a name!”
“Got it… How about Luke?”
“Luke, Luke, huh… Hmm, not bad! It suits a cool Fenrir like me perfectly!”
It seemed the Fenrir, now named Luke, was pleased.
“Nice to meet you, Luke.”
When Taichi touched Luke’s front paw, his hand was enveloped in the softest fluff. It felt like being wrapped in angel’s wings, making Taichi shiver with pleasure.
(I’ve petted many cats before, but this is the best fluff I’ve ever experienced.)
As he gently stroked Luke’s paw, the Fenrir wagged its tail happily. It seemed Luke enjoyed being petted.
Taichi loved fluffiness, so Luke seemed like the perfect partner.
While he continued to enjoy petting Luke, the Fenrir suddenly widened its eyes.
“H-Hey! How long are you going to keep touching me!? I am a noble legendary Fenrir, not someone a human can touch so easily!”
“………”
Taichi chuckled, realizing that despite looking so pleased, Luke seemed reluctant to show affection openly. It seemed Luke preferred to maintain his solitary warrior image.
(Indeed, if he enjoyed being petted, he wouldn’t be the solitary warrior he wants to be…)
Taichi thought to himself about the peculiarities of this Fenrir’s personality.
