8. An Affinity of the Ancients
One fact I knew was that the game had some vague plot holes in some parts of its previous plot, as most of its efforts were set on the events of the game, such as the development of the academy, its classes, and its way of separating students.
But upon arriving here I somewhat understood why.
'Who would say that there were only a few people ranked to teach in the entire human kingdom?
I thought that a good system would be to separate classes by rank, or by weapon selection, but they can't do that because of the limited amount of human-ranked teachers.
The headmistress didn't want political problems among her teachers, so she only selected mostly noble teachers who wouldn't try to promote their family or collect talented students, in the past there was a teacher who tried to woo a talented student, and it didn't go very well.
'Common students are very gossipy, it was interesting to find out some things that I ignored because I was in a game world
That's why this year, teachers were selected not only who don't have criminal records, but also who were okay with having students of different races, especially for demons who are quite discriminated against by humans.
As the first year that All included other races, they put a lot of effort into this year's events, especially for this element and talent discovery event.
In a spacious room, the 100 students will be evaluated and targeted to prepare them according to their affinity in the different classes.
The first-year students were excited, while others were certain of which element they would get, it should be noted that after this, things will be defined not only between families but also between those who are more talented than others.
'From here it will be chaos for the first few days, then the differences between power will be written, which is when discrimination against other races begins in earnest.
There are 5 crystal balls made of a special material that detects elements when mana is introduced and changes color depending on nature, on top of tables made of some kind of expensive material decorated with jewels courtesy of the nobles.
Each table was lined up and had covered tents on top for the students' privacy, but apparently, they have been made so that the light of the element shines and it is known which element each student has, and next to each sphere there is an academy evaluator.
We were separated into 6 groups for the 100, interestingly, each of the heroines and Kiriko are separated from my row
'I appreciate that, it would be bad to be in the same row as each main character, depending on the level of talent, the ball will shine brighter and brighter, and each of them has a peak talent in their field including Kiriko and I wanted to avoid being there when everything goes into commotion.
While I waited, I started thinking about the inevitable event of the 4th heroine.
The kidnapping of the demon king's wife.
Let's see... according to the plot, it was believed that the death of the demon king would prevent a possible resurrection of the demon god since humans suspected that the demon god would revive thanks to his son, but they were wrong, when the demon king died, one of those who made the seal for the demon god in the great war, caused the seal to weaken accelerating the resurrection of the demon god, making things difficult for the protagonist.
The daughter of the demon king and 4th heroine named Aiko Evilness, on the day of the elementary evaluation, she would be coming with her mother as a companion, her mother, briefly described as a woman full of maternal love removes her assigned guards and decides to take her daughter alone to the academy.
but then, Aiko would lose sight of her mother, after passing through a park and entering a public bathroom for a urinary emergency, where inside a small incident of discrimination would occur with a girl towards Aiko for the horns on her head, which delays her for a while.
After leaving the bathroom and not finding her mother, she would be looking for her mother's whereabouts, and not finding her Aiko would make the mistake of seeking help from a police officer.
Under normal circumstances that would be ideal, but if it's you, a single demon against an entire foreign race, then that's where the mistake lies, the officer would be ordered by one of the higher-ups to delay her from speaking to her father and give her wrong directions so they can move the mother to some Zero zone far from the academy to avoid locating her.
A Zero zone is a place where they suppress the mana in a space in a room normally used for high-ranking awakened criminals and thanks to that you lose methods of location and mana, to avoid the sight of the director, they placed her there.
This was told by Aiko herself almost at the end of the game as a vent next to the protagonist, my sister was very sad for her for a while and I hate the humans in that game.
'well... I don't like the human race either.
They would torture that mother for 2 months to get information about some weakness of the demon king, when they couldn't get anything out of her, they would take her to some maximum security base, then those nobles would contact the demon king and have him come with some exchange of a special item in exchange for the wife, but all of that would be a trap and he would be killed, for research purposes since as a pure-blood demon he would be the perfect specimen for research.
'Although there are holes in the plot, I base it on my sister's words which was a narration from Aiko to Kiriko while she was crying, but I can more or less guess that that is the objective, demons are beings linked to magic almost as much as dragons, especially pure-blood ones, the demon king loved his wife so much that he sacrificed himself so that they would release her, but to his ignorance, his wife had already been dissected a long time ago... a real shame for that family, and all the pain was left at the hands of his daughter.
Well... that would break Aiko and she would give up all desire for peace with humans and try to get stronger to take her father's place and thus go to war against humans with the support of the demon god's generals, but she didn't leave school.
Under the protection of the director she pretends to be unaware so that they don't believe that she knew about that plan, but when she passes her second year in All, she confides the truth to Kiriko and he along with his aunt and cousin will go to destroy one of the high commands of the human domain who was the one who was behind the scenes orchestrating everything.
Which did not satisfy Aiko's thirst for revenge, so she ends up escaping back to the demon continent to strengthen herself and prepare for war, she almost at late stages of the game would changes her mind about the war, apparently, she had a moment of reflection knowing the damage that the escape of the demon god would cause to the world, so she joined the humans for the final battle, as a broken character specialized in fire magic equaling the protagonist and heroines who were full of adventures in one of the endings, I read that there were routes where Aiko does not return to the demon continent, apparently it was by making her die, or being evil.
As I continued to analyze his cruel fate, my turn came, and although my face remained calm, inside I was curious.
'The original Ren wasn't even evaluated properly, in the original plot, I would be running around the streets in my birth suit, and the original Ren would return later, but since he showed no signs of any elemental affinity in classes, he would be classified as a [no mana], they couldn't prepare the elemental measuring balls just for him, preparing them takes a lot of time and resources, resources they wouldn't waste on a commoner, thus, Ren ended up being just a talentless nerd, his bullying got worse until he dropped out of the academy and died in a dungeon.
'um... sad life for a child, I wonder if I won't have elemental affinity either, not that it matters, there are many ways to live, and the academy just makes my job easier, if it gets too annoying, I'll drop out and do something else.
As I arrived in front of the crystal-like ball, I nodded to the evaluator.
I took a deep breath put my hand on the ball and pushed my mana inside.
'Yesterday I tried to use magic, I expelled pure mana into the air, and it gave nothing, not a drop of water, not a flame, not even a breeze, I can dedicate myself to the sword if magic doesn't work, it would be difficult to face magic swordsmen or wizards without the resource of an element, Ren's mana was also weak, according to a teacher who humiliated Ren from the game in class, Ren's mana is so small that even a rat outside the walls would have more, which is why physical improvement with mana will be a problem, for better or worse, mana is almost like a requirement to be able to fight, being flexible it can be used in many ways... I could use artifacts, but to enter dungeons you need a certain range.
'um... it's been a while since I had difficulties with what I decided... it will be interesting.
'although the lack of mana would make my training very difficult, in the worst case I would only be a spectator to the rest, I could be a public servant, too, although I could always try to live in a cabin in the woods, but well, I'll think about it at the moment
I was looking at my life possibilities, but the bustle outside the tents brought me back to my reality.
- a light attribute!
- a maximum affinity to air!
- a maximum affinity to water!
- a maximum affinity to Earth!
- This year we are blessed with talents!
I was too busy looking at the ball in front of me at that moment.
I was shocked, the ball was shining blue, but it was not water, this light is stronger and it seems like there was a synapse of neurons inside the sphere...
There is only one variation like this, but it's impossible for me to have this, it's a 0.000001% chance of having it, since it's an affinity of one of the ancient heroes who participated in the great war, and if I had it all my life, which I hoped would be calm, it would go down the drain, that is...
*slap
Narrator's point of view:
After Ren fainted from the shock, the mana stopped flowing to the sphere, and that in turn made the sphere stop shining neon blue.
Because of the great commotion that Kiriko caused with the light attribute, an attribute linked to the hero from 500 years ago. Thanks to that screen, no one could see Ren's sphere, not even the evaluator, who also left the tent, ignoring the commoner to look at Kiriko.
But one person did see everything, with his red eyes radiating curiosity and a smile different from the ones he used to send to others, he radiated...
joy?
