American Comics: The Girl Next Door is Spider-Gwen

Chapter 23: A Masterpiece! The Follower!

"Skye, your program has finished loading," Ye Li pointed at the high-tech laptop on the table.

Now that he had acquired hacking skills, he could tell that Skye's laptop had high-end specifications.

"It's done loading!" Skye cheered as she saw the progress bar on the screen.

However, she scanned the surroundings and felt that it wasn't safe here, so she quickly put the computer away.

'Hmm... sneaky and secretive, what kind of schemes is she up to... '

Although Ye Li had only glanced at the screen briefly, judging by the skills copied from the system, Skye's hacking abilities were top-notch. Seeing her so excited, it was likely she had hacked into some secret department's database.

He scattered the remaining breadcrumbs to the swans fighting for the food, then clapped his hands, "Let's leave here first. The wind told me this place has already been targeted."

"The wind?"

Skye thought Ye Li was referring to some odd intuition and joked as she picked up her laptop bag, "Do all artists talk like that?"

She didn't think anyone would be after her so soon after joining the "Rising Tide."

Otherwise, what kind of department could have such high efficiency?

"Alright, great artist, stop being so paranoid."

She grabbed Ye Li's arm and said, "Let's go~ Take me to your art exhibition for a stroll."

"There's nothing much to see there. I have a better place in mind~"

Ye Li smiled mysteriously, "That's where my best works are stored."

...

Manhattan, Central Park.

In the northern building not far from Stark Tower.

"Sir."

The security personnel greeted Ye Li and tapped a few commands on a tablet before handing it over. "This requires your authorization."

Ye Li took the tablet, which displayed a restricted floor.

After inputting some decryption data, Ye Li led Skye to the floor via the elevator.

"Oh~! My God, Li, are all these your works?"

Skye exclaimed in amazement as she stepped out of the elevator.

The floor was filled with secure glass display cases containing paintings of various sizes and styles, including some oriental ink paintings.

Even someone like her, not well-versed in art, could tell these paintings were on a level far above those displayed at the exhibit.

"Some are my works, and some are from other renowned artists," Ye Li explained.

Ye Li approached a metallic wall and placed his palm on it.

The wall slid open, revealing a life-sized portrait inside.

The painting depicted a valiant and heroic goddess of war, incredibly lifelike.

Skye couldn't help but step forward, gently brushing her hand across the glass that framed the artwork, "What a masterpiece... What's her name?"

Ye Li smiled. "'Goddess Athena,' one of my signature works."

"Athena, huh."

Skye, intrigued by extraordinary phenomena, asked curiously, "Li, do you think gods, like those in Greek or Norse mythology, exist?"

"I think so-called gods are merely higher forms of life, like extraterrestrials," Ye Li replied.

Ye Li calculated that it wouldn't be long until Thor's Mjolnir descended.

"Li, you sound like a materialist, but artists aren't supposed to be more romantic," Skye teased.

"Why can't materialists be romantic?"

Ye Li gave the 'Goddess Athena' painting a push, revealing a hidden space behind it. "If you're looking for a private spot to work on your laptop, this place isn't bad."

Inside was a spacious area where art and romance intertwined. The space had refreshing wooden furniture, and one corner was filled with vibrant paints and various art tools that seemed unused for some time.

He pressed a switch, and the connected window blinds automatically retracted, revealing a panoramic view of New York through one-way floor-to-ceiling windows.

"There's even a room inside. What a surprise," Skye remarked.

Skye was both amazed and impressed—Ye Li used priceless paintings as doors.

It carried a unique air of extravagance.

"Very few people know about this place. I've only brought Gwen and Jessica here before," Ye Li said.

Ye Li extended the invitation. "Now I'm adding you to the list. Come in, my little assistant."

Below the building.

A figure with golden hair followed them.

Barbara checked the surveillance footage tracking Ye Li and Skye's route but found nothing useful. "Maybe I shouldn't be following them and should investigate the Ghost Spider Club instead."

She felt that following these two was only leading to "eating dog food" (watching their lovey-dovey interactions).

Also, why was the wind unusually strong today?

She clearly checked the weather data before taking action.

"Got you."

Ye Li, who had been sensing with his eyes closed, opened them and smiled.

He had already used the flow of air to pinpoint the stalker.

It seems like it's time to teach her a lesson.
