Chapter 99: SemiFinals Plus Demon
Kaera's sword sliced through the air, embedding itself into the ground just inches from Althea's face. Althea had managed to dodge to the right at the last moment, narrowly avoiding the strike. Her silver hair, however, was not so fortunate—a few strands lay severed on the ground.
Breathing heavily, Kaera, still straddling Althea, released her grip on the sword and covered her face with trembling hands. Tears streamed through her fingers.
“...Th-thank goodness...”
"The winner, Kaera Uryan!" announced the head judge, who had rushed over to assess the situation. The previously silent arena erupted into cheers.
Althea, still lying on the ground, reached out to catch Kaera’s falling tears. As she did, she noticed a shadow above. It moved rapidly toward them. She grabbed Kaera’s shoulder, rolled to the right, and stood up. At the same moment, a dark figure landed in front of her with a cloud of dust.
As the dust settled, the figure became visible—a man with black wings. His jet-black hair and golden eyes gave him a captivating yet dangerous appearance. He was likely a demon.
“Heh... you dodged it. Impressive reflexes. Though, I couldn’t bring myself to mar that pretty face of yours, so I diverted it a bit... Consider it a kindness.”
The winged man, with a sinister grin, picked up a strand of Althea’s severed hair from the ground.
Desperate to buy time, Althea cautiously questioned him, “Who are you? Did you cause that murderous intent earlier?”
“Heh, you noticed that too? Thanks to that, I managed to create an opening. ...Muah.”
The mysterious man, after a brief look of surprise, replied while kissing the strand of Althea’s hair.
“Got myself something good.”
As he caressed the silver hair, a sudden gust of wind blew it from his grasp.
“Hey!! What do you think you’re...!!” He shouted, but nothing was visible where he was looking—except Althea’s hair floating in mid-air.
It was Ciel.
'You can't have this.'
Ciel’s voice echoed, though only Althea and the winged man seemed to hear it.
“Give it back!!!” the winged man lunged at the floating hair.
'Nope.'
With that, Ciel disappeared along with Althea’s hair, leaving the observers to think the hair had been blown away by the wind.
“Damn it, I had it... That fairy...” he spat, landing back in the arena. He then turned to Althea, tilting his head and speaking in a deceptively sweet tone.
“Can I have your hair?”
“No. More importantly, did you do something to Kaera?” Althea asked, her voice cold and eyes glaring.
“Oh, I did. I just made her body a little easier to control. But you know, I think I’d prefer your eyes... Or maybe everything...”
As he giggled, he moved closer to Althea, reaching out. Just as his hand was about to touch her face, a real sword descended from behind her.
“Damn.”
The winged man leaped back.
Suddenly, standing protectively in front of Althea were Siegfried and Regalus, who had been watching from the audience. They brandished their swords, ready to defend her!
