Chapter 17: Our Secret Hideout and the Powerful Prayer
Luna Selene's POV
Our retreat was cozy. It was nearly 50 feet inside the surface, and it was impossible to trace. We slid inside through the serpentine steps as we approached a warm, comfortable outfit. This was our hideout known only to me. This trench could easily accommodate hundreds of warriors capable of pouncing on the enemy and hiding back to this very same trench untraceable.
The underground trench had lighting and all other amenities of modern comfort powered by solar cells nearly 10 miles inside the Southern territory.
The two openings on two sides of the border, both unseen and invisible. It was perfect for mounting our attack when needed.
This was going to be our hideout from where I could monitor activities across both the ides of the border. The forest was the perfect cover for hundreds of binoculars tied to the tree top to keep a vigil over enemies.
One could easily see the Police Station from a tree-top binocular which served as our territory unknown to Alpha William Wolf. The three of us were firmly settled inside the bunker. I left my associates to take a look at the police station.
From the tree-top binoculars, I could see the police station as a toy-like house. There was no commotion around. I did not see too many people. I could only guess that the howling wolves of the last evening had probably abandoned the place.
Why had they come? Where did they go? From where had they come? Who sent them here? These were the questions I was struggling with. There were already hundreds of questions bothering me. I could not trust anyone here completely. Humans and wolves alike tend to align with someone who is advantageous to them.
The word loyalty is rare. It is an ideal and the ideals are not real. I am still very weak compared to the patriarch. How can I believe a handful of people close to me will be loyal for long unless I quickly regain the power?
I was beginning to get paranoid. I knew I was overthinking. I pray to Goddess Luna to give me strength and courage to fight this battle. Today is the full moon night. This is our chance to pray and turn the tides in my favor.
I still have no whereabouts of my mate Mark Donell. Losing him will destroy my plans. Oh, there are so many tasks already piling up. I want to straighten them all.
I took out my diary and wrote down what all I needed to work on immediately. First, I had to find out what exactly happened at the police station after I left along with Rita and Doctor David. Next, I had to find out if Beta Allison returned.
Allison's return was the critical step in my plan. He would inform us on the thinking of Alpha William Wolf. If he was convinced, I was killed, then I could proceed ahead with my plan. I was not very clear on what exactly he thought about me. All I knew was that he would not easily believe that I had been assassinated.
But the more urgent question right now was, how much did I trust Allison? I did not know it myself. I summoned Doctor David. "What do you feel about Allison, doctor?"
"I cannot trust him, Your Highness!"
"What makes you think so Doctor?"
"I had his blood sample checked Your Highness!"
"What did it say?"
"I don't trust universal recipients, Your Highness."
Our discussion ended. Dr. David is a healer and healers in our tradition are wise. He is highly inclined to the wolfish nature. It means he can shift at his will unlike most of us. Most of us must experience a high degree of lust and anger to shift.
I understood his inherent bias with universal recipients. They can accept everyone's blood for survival. They are inherently vampires or their bloodline possibly has a legacy of vampires. A werewolf and a vampire are inherent enemies. Werewolves have to remain cautious of vampires.
I asked Dr. David again, "Is everyone with AB group a vampire, Dr David?"
"No, Your Highness, I did not say they are all vampires but that they have a trait that matches vampires. Possibly, their legacy at some stage could be traced to a vampire. And yes, they could not be trusted. I am sure about that."
The revelation that Dr. David made did not pacify me. It made me restless to know where abouts of Allison.
I wanted to ensure, whether Dr. David had done his job well. I summoned the Dr. again.
Rita was with me. I did not want to discuss my worries with the doctor in the presence of Rita. I thought this is not the best time, so when the doctor arrived, I said, "Listen, dear Rita and dear doctor! Today is the full moon night and our first night at this camp. We will dedicate this night to Goddess Luna. We are going to pray and take a vow of allegiance to Goddess Luna and pray for her protection and our victory."
Both of them applauded with positive and happy howls.
We waited for the night to pray.
When the night arrived, the three of us lit a fire and performed the rituals. We sang the song of loyalty and victory:
Song of Prayer to Goddess Luna
(Verse 1)
O Goddess Luna, Queen of the night,
With silver light, so pure and bright,
Guide us through this darkened hour,
Bless our hearts with strength and power.
(Chorus)
We stand before you, hearts held high,
Under the vast, eternal sky.
Luna, hear our humble plea,
Grant us victory, set us free.
(Verse 2)
Selene, our Queen, with gentle grace,
Show us the path, in your embrace.
With Rita by your side, so true,
And Dr. David's wisdom, too,
We vow our loyalty to thee,
For our state, we'll fight, we'll be.
(Chorus)
We stand before you, hearts held high,
Under the vast, eternal sky.
Luna, hear our humble plea,
Grant us victory, set us free.
(Bridge)
Let the enemy tremble and fall,
Your light shall guide us through it all.
With each step, our courage grows,
Your blessings on us, forever flow.
(Verse 3)
To Luna, the Queen, we make our vow,
In your light, we're strong somehow.
With Rita, and David, we rise as one,
Until the battle's finally won.
(Chorus)
We stand before you, hearts held high,
Under the vast, eternal sky.
Luna, hear our humble plea,
Grant us victory, set us free.
(Outro)
O Luna, Queen, in silver bright,
Guide us onward through the night.
We pledge our loyalty, pure and true,
Victory's ours, with thanks to you.
We celebrated the night of prayer as I felt Goddess Luna smiling like a mother to me. I remembered my mother whom I saw in the Goddess Moon. She appeared to smile at me.
After the prayer, it was now time to feast. The three of us had cooked an excellent meal. Our bunker was already well stocked to take care of the food for hundreds of us for months. There was nothing more that I needed at least immediately.
After the sumptuous meal, I called Dr David aside and whispered, "Dr David, I want to know, if you did your job well?"
"Which job Your Highness?"
The doctor didn't remember the job I had entrusted to him.
"I am referring to the job relating to Allison?" I whispered suspiciously.
"Oh, don't worry your Highness," Dr David assured me.
He indicated to me that he had done his job well. I did not feel reassured yet.
"If you have done your job well doctor and I believe you have," I whispered, then I would like to see...
