Alchemy of Madness

Chapter One (John)~2

"Please tell me there is good news," Anna begged, and I usually prefer it when she begs for something else.

Dammit! John, focus!

"I'm sorry, Anna, nothing looks good," he said, returning his gaze to the papers. "I honestly don't know why this keeps happening to you, but the last tests we ran this week yielded an answer." He cleared his throat.

Just finish the damn sentence!

"Both of you are perfectly healthy; nothing is wrong with you. But you can't have children together."

I scowled. "What do you mean?" I asked.

"Simply put, your body is refusing to carry his child. When we tried the Microinjection, all the embryos survived. When we started the procedure, your body immediately rejected them." He said this while staring at us, puzzled.

This was a legendary doctor in his field. I'd never heard him sound so unsure and perplexed in my life.

"There are other ways to have kids, biological one to both of you is definitely impossible," he said, taking off his thin glasses. Anna eyes roamed between his face and mine, thinking hard. Her lips parted to speak, yet her small voice was gone.

She leaned back and gazed at me. I returned her gaze, unsure what to say. The doctor pursued the other options. Anna kept her face still and her breathing steady. I was expecting her to cry, but she was unusually quiet.

We walked to my car without saying anything. I was expecting her to say something. I was far too nervous to even breathe loudly next to her calm body. We both sat inside. She finally turned to face me. "Now what?"

That's a good question. My response will defiantly enrage her.

"Whatever you want," I simply replied.

"Your family will not accept adoption or me carrying a donor baby," she clarified.

I refuse to accept having another baby named after me who is not biologically mine. Even though I am not interested in children. It's still a firm no.

"There is only one way out." Anna locked her gaze on mine. "Divorce."

What?!

"What the hell Anna!?"

"Please don't act as if you hadn't considered it."

"Certainly not!"

I had. Several times.

I absolutely love her, but I enjoy being with her even more when she is cheerful. I loved her carefree spirit, but it had disappeared entirely.

"It's over, John. It has been for three years; our marriage have ended."

The day she decided to become pregnant.

I averted my gaze. "Not happening."

"I know your family will make it difficult, but I've been in enough pain to deal with them; I'm returning to London, and my attorney will contact yours in the next couple of days to sort everything."

I should say no. But I honestly don't want to.

"Are you willing to throw our love and marriage away like that?"

As if I hadn't thrown it two years ago when I started fucking that delicious hooker. She resembled a curved version of Anna, and her body kept me sane throughout Anna's crazy baby journey.

Anna sighed as she looked at me again. "Please make this divorce as simple as possible; I can't stay here any longer."

"I love you."

I truly loved her.

She smiled. The same smile I fell madly in love with years ago. She leaned closer to me and laid a quick kiss over my cheek. Her minty floral scent filled my chest. "I love you too."
