Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Qin Yuan Finally Parts Ways with the Su Family:
At this critical moment, a middle-aged man dressed in a golden silk robe appeared in the sky, stopping Qin Tianhai from taking further action.
“Mr. Qin, you know it’s forbidden to kill anyone within the city limits!” the man declared.
Qin Tianhai’s expression remained calm, as if he had anticipated this interruption.
With a flick of his sleeve, the one hundred and eighty swords vanished instantly. “I wasn’t planning to kill him, just giving a warning,” he said nonchalantly.
“Good,” the middle-aged man sighed in relief, giving a slight bow to Qin Tianhai before turning to Su Yuanshan.
“Su Yuanshan, you should also remember today’s rules. Elders must not bully the younger generation, nor should they use their power to oppress others!”
“I… I understand, Elder Zhang,” Su Yuanshan stammered, still shaken from his earlier fear.
“Make sure you don’t repeat this mistake. Next time, I may not be able to protect you.” The middle-aged man gave Su Yuanshan a meaningful look, nodded to Qin Tianhai, and then departed.
“Huh~” Su Yuanshan exhaled deeply, patting his chest in relief. He had truly felt the threat of death just now. Thankfully, the middle-aged man had appeared in time to save him.
Without that intervention, he couldn’t imagine what terrible fate might have awaited him.
Seeing Su Yuanshan’s reaction, Qin Yuan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
He had come here without the intention of killing Su Yuanshan, though that didn’t mean the thought hadn’t crossed his mind.
After all, killing Su Yuanshan could bring him a significant reward from the system, but for some reason, this man was off-limits—unless he provided the opportunity himself.
The human world was far from peaceful.
Humans, demons, and devils all coexisted in the same realm, often clashing with one another.
Especially in recent centuries, the hatred between these three races had grown so intense that war seemed inevitable. In response, the human leadership had established certain rules.
No life-and-death vendettas were allowed among those at the Golden Core realm unless absolutely necessary. Those strong enough to reach the Golden Core realm or beyond were granted some protection under these rules.
This was why someone had intervened just now, particularly given the involvement of someone as powerful as those in the Tongtian realm.
Such individuals were usually shielded in some way, and attempting to kill them often led to situations like the one Qin Yuan had just encountered.
Of course, these rules only applied within city limits. In secret realms or unguarded areas, however, if someone was killed, no one would ever know…
“I’ll spare your life this time. But if there’s a next time, even if someone tries to stop me, I’ll make sure to take your life!” Qin Tianhai warned Su Yuanshan before turning to Qin Yuan with a nod of approval, then leaving.
As soon as Qin Tianhai departed, the smile on Qin Yuan’s face vanished. He turned to Su Yuanshan, making it clear he had no interest in further discussion. After all, he could hardly agree with anything the Su family had done.
“Let me be clear,” Qin Yuan began. “I didn’t come here to win Su Mengyao back. I came to break off our engagement!”
“What?” Su Yuanshan gasped, as if struck by lightning. The news was so shocking that he couldn’t believe his ears.
“He wants to break off the engagement with me?” Su Mengyao, who had overheard the conversation, was equally stunned, covering her mouth in disbelief. “This is impossible!”
Yu Ying, standing nearby, widened her eyes in confusion.
Meanwhile, Lin Yun’s face lit up with joy. “Great, now Mengyao is mine,” he thought.
The three of them had very different reactions to the news.
“Qin… Little friend Qin,” Su Yuanshan said softly. He had intended to address Qin Yuan more formally, but quickly corrected himself, realizing the situation had changed. His tone became much more soothing.
“Did something happen between you and Yao’er? Why do you want to break off the engagement? If she has done something wrong, I’ll have her apologize to you. There’s no need to end things like this,” Su Yuanshan said, forcing a smile.
Qin Yuan sneered inwardly at Su Yuanshan’s sudden change in demeanor, but his expression remained neutral.
“Everyone knows what happened. There’s no need for me to explain. Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you. My purpose here is simple: to break off the engagement.”
“This…” Su Yuanshan hesitated, unsure of how to respond.
He had never expected Qin Yuan to want to end the engagement.
After all, his daughter had insisted that Qin Yuan was coming to save her.
That’s why Su Yuanshan had been so assertive earlier—hoping to extract more cultivation resources from Qin Yuan. But now, the situation had flipped.
Qin Yuan wasn’t here to save her; he was here to break things off, and his resolve was unmistakable.
“This foolish girl!” Su Yuanshan cursed inwardly.
He knew very well that the Su family’s current success was largely due to Qin Yuan’s protection and resources.
Without that support, the Su family’s future would be uncertain.
But, fortunately, the family had developed well, and they could still manage without Qin Yuan.
Changing his tone back to its original sternness, Su Yuanshan said, “Fine, I agree to break off your engagement with Yao’er. In fact, I’ve found a new son-in-law who is far superior to you. Compared to him, you are nothing. A cowardly fool like you isn’t worthy of my daughter!”
Su Yuanshan’s words were laced with disdain, mocking Qin Yuan for his past cowardice and belittling his talents.
However, in truth, Qin Yuan’s abilities were anything but weak.
On the contrary, he was one of the most talented individuals in the history of the Qin family.
The only reason his cultivation had stagnated at the Heavenly Spirit Realm was because he had spent so much time trying to please Su Mengyao.
It was clear who Su Yuanshan’s favored son-in-law was.
Upon hearing these words, Lin Yun couldn’t help but smile.
Su Mengyao and Yu Ying, however, looked distressed—one shocked that Qin Yuan actually wanted to end the engagement, the other puzzled by his sudden decision.
Didn’t he like Su Mengyao?
“Very well. Since the head of the Su family has spoken, your family will have nothing to do with me, Qin Yuan, from this moment on.” Qin Yuan declared.
“Good, then please leave, Qin Yuan. I won’t see you out.” Su Yuanshan replied, his hands clasped behind his back as he proudly turned to head toward the main hall.
But before he could take more than a few steps, Qin Yuan’s voice stopped him in his tracks.
“Since the engagement is over, it means that all the resources I’ve given to the Su family must be returned in full. So, Master Su, prepare yourself.”
“Wha… what?!” Su Yuanshan froze in place, utterly stunned. Resources… He knew all too well that if Qin Yuan took back everything he had provided, the Su family would collapse within a month.
