Accidents Made Right 1: Pistanthrophobia

Mystery Chapter 2: Hope and Fear

13.8 billion years before the Split

Darkness is nothing but the absence of light. If there’s one thing Pemo has learned over the years, it’s this.

“Where are you children?! The ceremony’s about to start!”

A humanoid, faceless figure in amethyst and ruby-covered armor ran down the golden halls of a castle, desperately searching for something, or someone.

As the figure ran past a supply closet, soft giggles could be heard from inside.

“I can’t believe I didn’t listen to you earlier Raen! This is so fun,” a smaller, humanoid figure whispered.

Like all Grim Reapers, these two children’s bodies were represented by the most defining part of what they control. In this case, one was made out of white electricity, and the other out of black electricity.

The second Grim Reaper kid snickered, and with a dark, low voice opposite of his brother’s, the black electricity Grim Reaper replied “Duh! I know how to have fun Pemo!”

“You always do!” Pemo replied.

They waited a minute, then sank into the ground, phasing down until they reached a large bedroom with two beds right next to each other, one closet in front of each bed, one bathroom door on both sides of the room, and one table next to either bed.

Just a few moments later, the door in front of the beds swung open, and the figure running through the halls earlier was behind the door.

“There you are! Holy Modsil, neither of you are even dressed!”

Raen groaned, mumbling mockingly “Royal Guards.”

Tendrils shot out of the Grim Reaper Royal Guard’s back, going to the closet, opening it, and pulling out one gem-covered outfit out of either closet.

The first, a yellow gem’d tux and cape with emeralds slotted into the arms and legs, was put onto Pemo, and for Raen, a red suit of armor with purple and dark blue gems slotted into the chest, shoulders, and knees.

“Ugh, you know we’re old enough to put these on ourself!”

“If you were, you would’ve had them on already and be on your way to the throne room! Don’t you two know this is the most important day of your lives?!” The Royal Guard exclaimed, tightening and fitting the suits along with adding unnecessarily uncomfortable accessories onto the helmets and shoes.

Once he was done, he started pushing the two trouble makers out of the room.

“Relax, Alfred,” Raen said mockingly and annoyed, “We’ll make it.”

“Good. You better,” the guard replied, before tendrils went out of his shoulders and pulled him up, causing him to phase through the ceiling.

Then, Raen looked at his brother’s suit, and groaned.

“What’s wrong,” Pemo asked.

“How come you get a cape?”

Twirling it a little to look at it, Pemo said “I dunno, but I’ve never been a big fan of them. Sure, they look good… but they also get in the way a lot.”

“Alright… we should go. Don’t want our father to get upset.”

20 minutes later

Pemo and Raen, pushing a giant golden door open together, slowly creaked it, until they could shimmer through the crack before quickly closing it.

Inside the throne room was barely anybody, except for two very tall Grim Reapers, both wearing incredibly fancy crowns atop their heads.

The first one had a body made of a pink, brain-like matter, and the other was made entirely of golden strings, like the famous threads of fate in both Greek and Norse mythology.

“Where have you two been?! Everybody’s been waiting on you,” the female figure interrogated.

The slightly taller, male Grim Reaper opened his hand towards her, then said “Relax. They’re here now. Which means we can begin.”

The Grim Reapers were standing in front of one massive throne, probably 50 feet tall, and directly across from them was a balcony, with a camera pointing towards them just barely inside the throne room.

“My dear subjects,” the male Grim Reaper shouted regally, “I have been proud to serve these long and prosperous few trillion years as your king Modsil. But now, with rising tensions with the Menons, Meni and I have decided to announce who will take the throne in our stead if both of us were forced to leave the throne.”

“Go on,” Raen whispered to his brother, “We both know you already won.”

“No. We don’t know that.”

“C’mon. We both know you’re the favorite child. Not just to dad, but the whole kingdom!”

“Don’t jinx yourself. Besides. You know we’ll be there for each other. For all time.”

“And now, we are proud to tell you that the next one two take the throne will be…”

“Both of our sons, Pemo and Raen!”

All that could be heard was a crowd of gasps, along with ones from Pemo and Raen as well.

“I know this is unprecedented, as everybody expected only one of them to take the throne, but trust me, they work so well together that I just had to make them both kings! I’m sure they’ll make us all proud!”

Unfortunately, Raen didn’t hear that, as all that was going through his head was:

I’m going to be king?!

Pride cometh before the fall.
