Abnormality In Type-Moon: Madness Of Animeverse

Chapter 108: Chapter 108: The Time for the Final Battle Has Arrived

Tohsaka Rin was in the kitchen preparing a late-night meal.

Although the final battle was very likely to take place tonight, as the saying goes, you can't fight a war on an empty stomach. Volunteering herself, Tohsaka Rin headed into the kitchen to prepare the meal.

After the food was ready, Tohsaka Rin removed her apron.

"That's strange, where's Roy?"

"Haven't seen him."

"No idea."

In the living room, Nakano Ichika and Illya shook their heads and waved their hands in response.

By the time Hayasaka Ai brought the food to the table, Roy finally arrived late and headed into the kitchen.

Tohsaka Rin sniffed the air, catching a faint strange smell. But it quickly dissipated, and since she couldn't figure out what it was, she didn't pay it any further attention.

At the dining table, only Roy and Tohsaka Rin were quietly eating.

"Is Saber still not awake?"

"Mm, it seems like she won't wake up tonight."

"I see. My Archer is still injured too..."

Tohsaka Rin trailed off mid-sentence.

With this lineup, how were they supposed to fight?

It was utterly hopeless!

Tohsaka Rin wailed internally in despair.

"...I'll take on that golden Archer myself!"

After a long silence, Tohsaka Rin raised her head, looking resolutely at Roy.

"While Archer and I hold him off, you head to the Greater Grail. That thing is beyond saving anyway. Destroy it, and we can still solve everything!"

This was the only strategy Tohsaka Rin could come up with.

Servants were summoned by the Greater Grail. The mana, rituals, and mechanisms used for their summoning were all provided by the Greater Grail. The mana supplied by the Masters was merely to keep the Servants anchored in the present world.

Once the Greater Grail was destroyed, the Servants would no longer be able to remain materialized. Even that gilded mongrel shouldn't be able to defy the core mechanism of the Holy Grail War.

And against that gilded mongrel, her Archer had absolutely no chance of winning. Most likely, she would end up dying at his hands as well.

But maybe that wasn't so bad.

She owed Roy far too many favors. At least this way, she could repay him a little.

"That's impossible. That golden Archer has already materialized as flesh. Even if you destroy the Greater Grail, he won't disappear because of it."

But Roy shook his head, shattering Tohsaka Rin's last hope with his blunt words.

"That damn gilded mongrel, is he for real?!"

Tohsaka Rin couldn't help but curse in frustration.

Materialized!

Why did he have to materialize?!

Servants were essentially etheric aggregates, magical constructs of mana. While they appeared human, with similar physical structures and organizations, they weren't truly human.

Except in one case: materialization. As the name suggests, it meant obtaining a real body and becoming a true human. Once materialized, even severing their mana supply wouldn't make them disappear.

Even if the Greater Grail was destroyed, that gilded mongrel could continue living freely in this world.

"So, leave that golden Archer to me."

At this moment, Roy suddenly spoke up.

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

Tohsaka Rin stiffened, instinctively raising her voice in objection.

"No matter how strong you are as a Magus, or how powerful your Mystic Eyes are, you can't possibly be a match for that gilded mongrel!"

If he insisted, Roy might even die before she did.

Tohsaka Rin absolutely couldn't accept that.

Whether it was from the perspective of repaying favors or from her own personal feelings, she couldn't allow Roy to die before she did!

"No problem. I have a trump card."

Roy looked at Tohsaka Rin with a serious expression.

"Trust me, Rin. I wouldn't do something intentionally seeking death."

Tohsaka Rin froze for a moment, stunned by his words.

What was going on?

Was it an illusion?

Why did Roy seem... different?

She had been with Roy for three years. Though she didn't fully understand him, she had a fair grasp of his character.

Roy never cared much about his own life.

If necessary, he would willingly trade his life for the outcome he desired.

With his personality, he would usually say something like, "Even if I die, I'll drag him to hell with me." He would never say, "I won't intentionally seek death."

This sudden change—it was only tonight, only for a few hours.

What could have happened to cause such a drastic shift in someone as stubborn as a bull?

"Are you really confident?"

Tohsaka Rin stared intently into Roy's eyes, as if trying to see through his thoughts.

"I am!"

Roy nodded firmly.

"...Alright then."

Tohsaka Rin silently observed him for a long time. Unable to detect any indifference toward his own life, she instead found a resolute confidence. Only then did she relax.

"In that case, I'll leave that gilded mongrel to you. I'll take the chance to destroy the Greater Grail from the rear!"

"Ah, about that—don't destroy the Greater Grail just yet."

"Why not?"

Tohsaka Rin looked at Roy, puzzled.

Roy chuckled, a strange expression surfacing on his face.

"Who said I only have one trump card?"

...

After finishing their late-night meal, their strategy was set.

Roy and Tohsaka Rin geared up for the battle ahead.

Okita Souji still hadn't woken up, leaving only Roy, Tohsaka Rin, and Red Archer to embark on the path to the final showdown.

Of course, there was also one hidden ace in the shadows.

"Master."

"What is it?"

"In the previous battle, I did not reveal myself, nor did I communicate with you. I hope you don't take offense."

"Wasn't that your logical judgment?"

"Indeed. This time, aside from you, there are no living participants. Based on your orders, I had intended to remain a bystander until the very end, even if it meant you died."

Taigong Wang's voice carried a chilling rationality.

Servants were beings who had already passed away; their lives need not be pitied.

The living, however, had no reason to meet an untimely end. They still had plenty of time to experience all the world had to offer. Taigong Wang didn't wish for unnecessary deaths among the living.

Last time, because Tohsaka Rin was nearby, Taigong Wang had suggested retreat.

But previously, when only Roy was alive, Taigong Wang had chosen to obey his order, planning to watch until Roy's last moment.

"Ultimately, that was my command. Don't let it bother you."

Roy paused before continuing, "But I've changed my mind now. You were right before—I've been too indifferent toward everything, fixated solely on fulfilling my ambition. If I keep going like this, I'll only lose more."

"I'm glad to see you've changed."

"Thanks."

"Though, I must say, your change isn't because of my words, but due to that Saint's final message. Makes me a little jealous."

Roy suddenly gave a bitter smile.

Tohsaka Rin glanced at him curiously.

Why was he suddenly smiling on the road?

Was the pressure finally driving him mad?

A trace of concern appeared on Tohsaka Rin's face.

"Then, I'll leave the rest to you."

"Rest assured, you can count on me!"

Under Illya and the others' watchful eyes, Roy and Tohsaka Rin departed the Aozaki residence side by side.

The two left the residential area, heading toward Mount Enzō.

Soon, they arrived at the foot of the mountain.

The area was completely deserted. All the magi and patrolling guards had been ordered to withdraw by Tohsaka Rin beforehand.

At present, the entire Mount Enzō had only two living beings: them.

Roy retrieved the Lesser Grail from the Imaginary Space and tore apart the rune barrier.

In an instant, the Lesser Grail could no longer contain the Servants' souls within it. Eight souls burst forth, forming a massive portal that connected to the Outside World.

Simultaneously, deep within the underground cavern of Mount Enzō, the Greater Grail responded, emitting a dazzling red light.

"Here it comes!"

At the crater, Gilgamesh stood, gazing at the fully reactivated Greater Grail with a gleeful smile.

"Roy, you little brat, make sure to entertain me properly in this final battle!"
