Chapter 19
*Narration*
The two of them meet in the middle as Goliath throws a devastating right punch straight towards the young adventurer.
August jumped up dodging the blow and ran up into its arms, using his mana and natural strength to propel himself towards the monster's head.
"Gotcha!" He channeled mana into Beowulf, and drove the spear straight into the monster's eye. He got it, or so he thought.
Goliath used its left hand and slammed it directly at August hitting him at the side making him vomit out blood as he was sent flying a few meters back crashing on the dungeon wall.
He was so concentrated on his attack that he failed to see the blow coming. He slid down the wall down to the ground, his vision getting blurry as he tried to stand up.
"Fucking monster." he could only curse at the monster, he's body is broken and battered from one hit alone, all of his arrogance vanished and right now it was replaced with the intense desire for survival.
"ROAR!!!" The monster charges at him, not giving him any time to recover as it looks to finish him off.
August was able to roll to the right as the massive hands crashed to the ground, sending debris flying off by its massive force.
With adrenaline coursing through his veins, he ignored the pain and willed his mana to move, he went for a counter slashing at the ankle of the monster which made it roar in pain.
The monster quickly turned and trashed at August, raining blows down on him. August dodges the blows, every dodges made his heart beat faster as he knows that taking another hit would mean his demise.
'Shit moving like this is taxing my body even more. I got to find an opening.' his body hurts at every movement he is doing, as a burst of pain assaults him at every step he takes to dodge the incoming fist. He made an effort to counter every now and then, making some cuts here and there and Beowulf absorbed Goliath's blood aiding him as his skill lethal tempo increased his speed at every blow he made.
But it still wasn't enough. He may be faster than the monster but it was only by a little margin, and he knows he can't continue this long enough for him to gain more speed since he's body is near its limit. He's only moving because of his desire to survive. He knows that at any moment his body may give up on him.
'I guess I really have to use it. I heard from Sophie that floor 18 is a safe zone, it's risky but it's the only chance I have. I just need to stall for another 4 minutes then I can use endless battle.' his mind worked fast, coming up with a sound plan to at least have a chance in beating this monster in front of him, but the problem is. Does he have that 4 minutes in him. It will be close.
If his body can hold on for another 4 minutes then he has a chance to kill this thing. But if it gave out on him, he'll be just another corpse in the dungeon.
"BRING IT ON!!!"
.
.
.
-at the 16th floor of the dungeon
"Aren't there quite a few monsters in here right now?" a petite dark skinned amazoness that's carrying an over exaggerated double bladed sword said while dispatching a lone minotaur that's unlucky enough to cross her path, this amazoness is Tiona Hiryute
"I don't really care, it makes our job a lot easier if you ask me." she was answered by a taller amazoness who is wielding a pair of kukri knives, it was her older twin sister Tione Hiryute.
"let's wrap it up here. These small fries really don't pose much of a challenge for us anyway." an arrogant looking werewolf impatiently barks as he holds a monster core in his hands. The man was known as Bete Loga.
"Don't let your guard down, we are still inside the dungeon." the 3 of them looked as a handsome pallum walked out of the shadow, in his hand is a golden spear. It was Finn Deime. Besides him is the elf Riveria Ljos Alf, and the dwarf Gareth Landrock.
"Hmmm..." a blonde girl acknowledged the order of her captain as her eyes stared at the path that goes deeper down the dungeon. With a blank face, Ais Wallenstein followed her comrades as they moved deeper inside the dungeon.
The whole of Loki's higher echelon is hoping to reach a deeper floor than they did before, and right now they are just starting their campaign.
And right now they are about to enter the 17th floor.
Right before reaching the entrance towards the boss room, they felt a vibration on the floors of the dungeon.
'Looks like a team beat us for Goliath's loot, oh well, at least we won't have to waste any energy or resources in fighting the monster rex.' Finn thought as they prepared to enter and watch the battle inside, it was rude to jump in mid battle so they only planned to watch on the sideline to scout their competition.
"I wonder who they could be. Maybe Freya's, I heard they are preparing for a dive." Riveria put her hands on her chin as she asked no one in particular.
"I doubt it, from what I know, we entered the dungeon before they did." Gareth answered the elf.
"Whoever they are, they sure made our job a lot easier." Bete with his head resting on his hands as he walks spoke in a lazy tone. His eyes suddenly opened wide. As a matter of fact all of their eyes did.
It was surreal, a scene of a lone adventurer facing a giant behemoth that is Goliath rex. And from the looks of it, he was standing his ground, delivering fast and swift counter at every blow the huge beast sent his way.
"You gotta be shitting me." Bete couldn't believe his eyes, an adventurer soloing a rex isn't unheard of, hell Goliath is the weakest of the rex, any one of them can solo the monster if they want. Yet doing so is impractical and carries a lot of risk. As his captain would say a rex is still a rex.
"He seems quite young." Tione said, watching the fight closely, she was drawn to the boy's movement. It was clean and precise as he dodged the monster at an extremely thin margin before unleashing a torrent of counter attacks, and she could see that the boy was moving faster and faster at every strike that he landed.
"Hey I always wanted to do that. But the captain always said that we should kill it quickly." Tiona on the other hand was pouting, she always wanted to solo a rex, and seeing someone who's actually doing it made her feel envious.
"..." Ais just kept her mouth shut as she watched the fight, in her mind she is putting herself in his situation, running simulations on what she would do if she's fighting Goliath rex alone.
The trio of Finn, Riveria, and Gareth were quiet for a whole different reason, they recognized him, from his dark amber hair, to the dark obsidian spear that released a vicious aura. It was the boy from 9 years ago.
Riveria remembered it like it was yesterday, how a lone boy charged against a monster horde killing everything in his path. Finn and Gareth were both unconscious when it happened but Riveria was wide awake.
She remembered how the boy moved, how he slaughtered the monster with terrifying precision, how he used his spear to bash the head of orc to a pulp while laughing maniacally as he was doing so. It was the very same boy, wielding the very same spear, and moving with a more precise and calculated movement. It sent goosebumps all over her body remembering the events of that day, and seeing the boy now, fighting a monster rex alone made her feel awe. 'He was this talented?'
"August Kaiser." she snapped out of her thoughts as Finn spoke the name of the boy.
All 4 of the younger members looked at their captain. "You know this kid?" Bete asked.
Finn nodded, keeping his eyes at the fight in front of him. "He was one of the few survivors from a village that was attacked by a monster horde. We rescued him along with seven others nine years ago." Finn smiled and continued. "To think he'll get this strong after only 9 years."
"..." the others became quiet. They all know the story, as it is well documented in their familia, the event that happened 9 years ago. How multiple villages were massacred by monsters, how only one village was wasn't completely annihilated by the horde. A theory was even made that Evilus was behind every attack. And now, in front of their eyes is a survivor of that attack.
August has his full attention on the monster, he didn't even see the members of loki familia watching their fight. For him, this monster and him are the only existing creatures inside of the room.
He dodged another first coming his way and countered it with a blow of his own, scrapping the skin off the monster's first as the blood was greedily devoured by Beowulf.
'Only 40 seconds left.' he thought as he charged inside, shocking the monster.
August fully calculated the timing of his attack, he'll dodge the blows of the beast while gaining ground inside its guard. Then when he is close enough he'll unleash his magic to catch the monster by surprise.
It was a risky plan but one he is willing to take in order for him to kill this thing.
'35.' he's mind is counting the time, every second that passed as he moved closer towards the beast.
On a shocking display of agile movement, the huge monster delivers a kick towards him, catching him completely by surprise, but with all the strike he already delivered to the beast, he gained enough speed to dodge the attack with no problem.
He slid down, but that was a mistake on his part, he failed to calculate the power of the kick as his mind was only focused on his own attack, his inexperience in facing monster rex showed with this mistake.
The kick passed by him, but he was still blown away by the shockwaves it generated. Using his spear as leverage, he stabbed it on the floor, not allowing himself to lose distance.
A dark shadow completely covered him, looking up he saw a first going straight at him.
Using most of his remaining strength he jumped to the side, but there was a crack, he tweaked his right ankle. "Arghhh!" He groaned in pain as he rolled up. Another fist heading his way.
'I won't be able to dodge this one.' "Fuck!" he cursed as he raised his spear and moved the majority of his mana on his upper body, arms, and weapon. He braced himself for impact.
*BOOM!*
Dust and debris fly up in the air as the first crashed upon August. He was able to block a lethal blow but it caused him one of his arms as his left hand bent in the wrong direction, a bone sticking out of his skin.
"ARGHHHH!!!" he could only scream at the pain as the monster didn't give him time to recover. It sent another blow coming his way.
'15 seconds' he only needed another 15 seconds and he'll be able to use his magic.
Just as he was thinking that, he's vision suddenly turned foggy, his body was running on fumes and before he could reach his 4 minute mark. His body gave out on him.
The adventurers from Loki's familia saw the punch coming in slow motion. He's left hand is broken, and from what they saw he might have slipped earlier or sprained one of his ankles.
They prepared to intercept the punch, but all of them can see that they are too far away to do so.
They are about to witness the death of an adventurer inside the dungeon and they can do nothing about it.
August felt like he was floating, his mind was serene, calm even. 'Ah I'm gonna die.' his mind accepted his coming demise. He can see the first coming his way, but his body won't listen to him anymore. 'I guess this is the end for me.' He closed his eyes as his body fell to the ground. He no longer has the strength to defend himself.
Then he heard a voice. A deep, dark voice, faint yet clear. It was like two metals was scraping against each other. It was eerie yet calming.
"What a weak master I have."
He heard the voice deep within him, he felt cold, like someone or something was clutching his heart.
"Fine... I'll lend you some of my strength."
*BOOM!!!*
