Chapter 62: Nameless Adventurer
“Razhousen?”
Patrick frowned at my surprise.
“Every last one of them had the nerve to insult me….”
Patrick calmed his anger and smiled again.
“So even a healer knows the name Razhousen.”
That’s not why I was surprised, Arnold had of course said that he had a son attending Halekuwait.
“I am the true son of king Arnold Razhousen. It’s best to listen to what a prince tells you.”
Seems like it’s true then, but what’s with this bad attitude? I can’t believe how different the two of them are, what a careless prince.
“Well Arnold did say he had a son, how disappointing. Overconfident and arrogant, did he say you were just like every other boy?”
“Arnold?”
Patrick seemed to be surprised by something I said but as if to disguise his expression he looked down.
“To bring up the name of the king like you’re some kind of acquaintance.”
“…….huh?”
“Stop trying to make a fool of me! I was trying to be humble but to have the nerve to be so conceited.”
When was this guy being humble? This guy’s had a bad attitude for a while now, yet it seems like he’s not used to being intimidating.
“Stand up! I’ll teach you just how out of place you are!”
“Please wait prince Patrick.”
Sierra came between us.
“Who are you?”
“My name is Sierra Ecarlat.”
“I know that much, you just introduced yourself.”
“Right, I am Sierra Ecarlat of the White knights, our entry into the school was handled by King Arnold directly.”
“Not just the kings name, but even the name of the knights.”
Patrick began to tremble with anger.
“Stop Patrick, fighting and the use of harmful magic is prohibited.”
Several of the students began to try and mediate.
“This isn’t a fight, I said I was going to teach him.”
He was really arrogant.
“Its not possible here, I’ll teach you on the training grounds. That’s not a problem is it?”
“The training grounds Huh?”
I looked down on him with a smile that caused him to burn with anger.
“I don’t have a problem with that.”
*
The training field was indoors, the ceiling high enough to play baseball in.
“Looks expensive.”
“A commoner would never understand.”
Patrick was sarcastic.
“So, what are you going to do?”
Patrick stood in the middle and began to explain while students, even the ones who had tried to mediate filled the stands. Of course Nem, Toa, and Sierra were there as well.
“This is the training grounds, the use of magic and simulated battles are allowed here. I’m going to practice now so be thankful, the first time shall be the last.”
Students from other classes began to appear in the audience.
“What?”
“Are you surprised? This is my power as a prince, people gather just to see my mock combat. It’s troublesome.”
Patrick looked proudly at the audience.
“Master, best that guy to a plmnnfph!”
Toa put her hand over Nems mouth.
“Once this is over, leave the academy.”
“And if I win?”
Patrick laughed hard, his hands on his stomach.
“Relax, that won’t happen.”
Did he think he can accomplish something just because he’s royalty? Sorry Arnold, I’m going to rake your son over the coals.
The audience quiets down and a loud sound echos out as a signal.
“To get started, beginner magic. 《Fire》”
A fire lit in Patrick’s hand and he threw a fireball. I stepped out of the way and it burned out on the ground beside me.
“It would be disappointing if you couldn’t avoid at least that much.”
It might have been a little bigger than a normal fireball but it didn’t compare to Siegs.
“《Fire》”
This time he threw multiple, the difference between him an Sieg was like heaven and earth. I casually moved out of the way of each of them.
Patrick’s expression grew clouded.
“《Freya》!”
Slow, way too slow. It almost looked like it wasn’t moving, I didn’t think the ability of the magician made such a huge difference.
This magic isn’t at the level of being able to be used in an actual battle. If it can’t hit anyone then it’s just silly magic tricks.
“You look impatient. You’re not going to be able to hit me like this, but I guess this it what you get at your level.”
When I said that the look in Patrick’s eyes changed.
“《Devolcade》”
A red magic circle appeared at Patrick’s feet as a huge fireball came into existence above him. I’ve seen this magic as well, it should be advanced magic. A cheer rose up from the audience, it seems like everyone was excited about Patrick’s move. However I was over this already, Toa and Sierra probably noticed it as well.
“What do you think!? This is my magic! Is this something a healer is capable of?!”
“Probably not.”
“….” Patrick appeared triumphant.
“Throw it at me, I won’t dodge this time.”
“You’re joking, just surrender.”
“I’m not joking, this is single combat right? Then you should see this through to the end. Don’t worry it’s not like I’m going to die if it hits me.”
“Kh.”
He was angry.
“Whats the matter, throw it! Show me the power of a prince!”
“This is stupid but….”
Provoked Patrick threw the fireball at me.
“To be clear, it was never possible.”
I lightly swatted the fireball away with my left hand causing it to explode on a barrier like film protecting the audience.
“Oh so they did have a barrier there.”
Patrick stood rooted to the spot his mouth agape, the stands too had quieted.
“I expected a little bit when you said you were Arnold’s son. He told me about you over a drink as we discussed the school and I thought to return the favor I might chastise you a bit. But…”
“………what.” I could tell Patrick had given up by his facial expression.
“This isnt a school festival so what’s the point of that sloppy magic?”
I looked towards the audience.
“The rest of you are exactly the same, what were you cheering about earlier? You going to laugh behind his back after this? All of you should give up on being magic users and just commit to learning party tricks. All of you would be killed in a real battle.”
I turned my back on them and left, no one said anything.
*
Three people caught up with me as I left.
“You made a little of enemies.”
Toa laughed.
“Probably.”
“Master was so cool.”
“In the bad guy but, I returned the favor to Arnold.”
“Was there no other way?”
“Sorry Sierra, I don’t have any tact.”
The three of them understand me, that’s all I can ask for.
“Theres a library here right?”
“Its a school, so there should be one.”
“Well then, why don’t we go look for this Healer magic.”
The key to preventing Toas death, it’s all I’ve thought about since Artemias. Then at the library I found one book among those that I couldn’t read.
There was once an adventurer, who stole from his best friend. The best friend forgave him, even though he didn’t apologize. One day the adventurer found a serpent, the serpent took the adventurer from the friend. Still the friend forgave. This is the story of the nameless adventurer.
