Chapter 44p1 - Siren part 1
We visited a walstein specialty shop called stein in Mira. Even though it was early morning the restaurant was packed, everyone was talking about something that happened in Greyberg.
Apparently the final spell that created a massive black sphere, erasing the castle, had been visible from Mira. I guess doing that was actually quite brazen of me.
The large round table was piled with various steaks, salads and even alcohol, one would be hard pressed to call this breakfast. But, Sieg and the others all dug in as soon as the food arrived.
“I’ve been thinking, wouldn’t you all have actually taking care of the attack on your own?”
“The final result would have been the same sure, but Aries was quite formidable. There is little chance of it having gone the same way.”
The robes the three of them wore had an inhibitory effect so that even though they were saying Aries’ name, no one noticed. Of course, my robe also had the same effect.
Since I borrowed the robe from Toa I made sure to clean the blood off of it with my 《cleaning》 skill.
“Aries specialized in assassination right?”
“Well, it’s not a normal assassination, she was skilled enough to be considered S rank.”
That doesn’t surprise me.
“There was actually a different reason behind asking you for help. I was worried that one of the summoned heros might have shown up. If that was the case, we would have definitely needed your help.”
“A hero huh…. So, what are you guys going to do now?”
“We’re going to the Demon kingdom next.”
“Demon kingdom?”
“Yeah, past the great forest to where the demon King is. I haven’t quite heard the details yet but my father requested it so.”
The demon kingdom, I wonder if Toa’s parents are there? Just to be safe I confirmed what direction the demon kingdom was in.
“What are you going to do Nito?”
“Me? I’m going back to Razhausen, I’ve made some friends there. By the way, I’ve only just remembered but, on the staircase you said something about abyss magic?”
“It’s just a fairytale, don’t worry about it. ”
Sieg said that it wasn’t important.
“I believed it to be just the contents of someone’s mind. ”
“And now?”
“Well the talking wand exists. ”
As he said this Sieg looked towards the wand standing near me. Yes, it’s a wand, yes it can stand and talk all on its own.
“So, Bell appears in this fairytale?”
“Its the story of a nameless adventurer with a talking wand. ”
“Why don’t they have a name?”
“I have no idea, I read it when I was little.”
Eliza looked sad, I wonder if it’s because she’s thinking of the past. Alford began talking after that.
“Its something that parents read to their kids, they say if you don’t treat your friends right, no one will remember you. It’s something my mom taught me.”
“And the abyss magic?”
“At the end it says something like ‘the traitorous adventurer was so obsessed with abyss magic that eventually he fell into the abyss.’ I don’t remember in detail but, it was most likely close to that.”
“A traitor huh.”
“Well, it’s a fairy-tale, you’re not supposed to think about that hard. Besides, abyss magic doesn’t necessarily refer to a specific kind of magic or a specific spell. It’s more used for people who abuse magic. Like they’ve fallen into the abyss.”
“So, Aries and Johannes, they had fallen into the abyss, so to speak.”
Alfords eyes seemed sad at that, after all, even if it was only for a moment they were family.
“I’ve been listening and you guys are just arbitrarily saying stuff. There’s always been an abyss.”
Bell for his part, looked thoroughly offended by the three of them.
“What do you mean there’s always been an abyss? What does that mean?”
Seig asked, a confused look on his face.
“It means what it means, all of master’s magic is the abyss. Abyss refers to a single existence in this world so stop talking about it like it’s some kind of fairytale.”
“Bell, explain.”
“Isnt it obvious? I’m master’s other half.”
“Other half? And more importantly what do you mean by master, can you stop calling me that?”
“I’m just listening to my heart. I want to call you master so I call you master. There’s no other meaning.”
The other three didn’t seem to understand and pretended to ignore bell, focusing on their steaks.
*
“So, you’re really not going to come with us?”
“No, I’m going home to Razhausen.”
When we arrived in front of the maingate it was nearly noon and Mira had grown noisy. Greyberg guards could be seen milling around.
“Sorry for calling you here so suddenly but, I appreciate your help. Thank you.”
“Its fine, I got experience for it. Anyway I might call on you next.”
The three of them laughed.
“Alright, I’m going to cast teleportation magic on you now but, I can only send you back to the spot you were in before the original spell. Is that ok?”
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
Looking back I could see Greyberg surrounded by its barrier, the place where Saeki was. No, not just him, where all those who abandoned me were. For some unknown reason I felt restless and lost.
“Bell.”
Why did I talk to Bell?
“I don’t know anything that master doesn’t already know. But not now, you feel that way to don’t you? ”
Bell answered with the feelings that were inside my heart.
“Probably but….I don’t know. ”
The teleportation magic activated and I was sent away from Greyberg.
