Chapter 34: part 1 - The Return Home
Well I’m back, I think I’ve finally got my work pattern maybe kinda sorted. Had a lot of stuff going on but I’m trying to get this going steady again. Patreon(link doesn’t change color) in case you suddenly feel like a pledge lol
“You killed three of them?!”
After returning to the capital the first thing we did was show our faces at Sharon’s shop, in order to deliver the basilisk tears and other requested items.
“Hmm, what’s the matter Nem? You can use the bathroom if you want.”
Standing next to me Sharon told the excited Nem this as I pulled the materials from the bag and lined them up on the table. I told Nem not to tell anyone in the capital that I was the one who defeated the basilisk but it seemed she almost couldn’t help but talk.
“No. That’s, Nem…”
Nem glanced at my face then anxiously shook her head.
“I can’t tell Sharon either!”
“What are you talking about?”
Sharon seemed to be becoming honestly worried about Nem.
“So anyway Sharon, what are these used for?”
“Hmm? Isn’t it obvious? I’ll turn them into a potion.”
As she said this Sharon gave a robust smile.
“That’s everything!”
After a while Sharon came back with some kind of liquid in a glass bottle. It appeared that the basilisk materials were boiled down into this. Toa and Sierra chatted excitedly, did they know what this stuff was?
“So, what do you do with that?”
“Obviously it’s to heal Nem’s arm.”
“It will heal?!”
“Even though I want to say it’s obvious, this isn’t the primary use of the potion so it’s not well known.”
She held bottle as she said this.
“Nem, show me your arm.”
Rolling back her sleeves Nem revealed a painful looking brand on her arm.
“This is going to hurt, be strong OK?”
Nem’s expression tightened.
“And you, prepare your healing magic. A healers magic is unreliable but just in case. I don’t expect much but when I give the signal apply magic to the wound OK? Really put your back into it.”
“Ri… Right.”
I held my hand over Nem’s arm ready to cast magic.
“Well, here we go!”
Sharon dripped the liquid slowly onto the brand.
“Gu…. Uugu.”
“Be strong!”
From Nem’s expression it was easy to understand how much pain she was in. As the liquid dripped down the brand let out a blue glow and appeared to be fading. Was this melting the skin?
“Almost….. Almost.”
Tears rolled down Nem’s cheeks as Sharon tried to time it right.
“Now!”
“[Heal]!”
Healing magic was applied to Nem’s arm, erasing the blue glow and leaving behind a brand less arm.
“Alright, that should do it.”
Nem toppled over as all the strength left her body. Supporting her body I noticed that where the brand used to be was now pearly white skin with no trace of the wound.
“[Effect heal]! Are you alright Nem?”
That should have taken away the fatigue she felt.
“I’m OK! I don’t feel any pain either!”
The magic [Effect Heal] cures fatigue, it’s particularly useful for someone like me who is the opposite of what one might call energetic.
“Wow, it can cure it this perfectly? What is that stuff?”
Apparently there are still some things even Sierra is unaware of.
“That’s basilisk potion, you know of it don’t you?”
“I didn’t know of it. For that potion to have an effect like this..”
“As you should know this potion is normally used as a hardening agent. However if you add a bit more poison to the brew this is what you get.”
Sierra seemed impressed with this explanation. Meanwhile Toa was attempting to get the already energetic Nem to sit down and rest.
” First it melts the skin containing the brand causing severe pain, then once the brand is melted away you heal it. Although it’s not strictly necessary to use healing magic. Anyway you have to be careful because if you make a mistake with the poison you can end up causing the skin to harden. I added a component to dampen the hardening effect too though so there was nothing to worry about. ”
Stroking Nems arm it doesn’t seem to be hard at all, appearing to be her natural skin. It was very smooth to the touch.
” Master….. That’s embarrassing. ”
” So-sorry. But you did well. ”
I embarrassed her more by patting her on the head.
” By the way, you put in some effort huh.”
“Is your body feeling alright Nem?”
“Are you ignoring me?”
“Hmm? Me?”
“It couldn’t be anyone else but you could it!?”
“That’s…. What’s up?”
“I’m talking about the magic, that’s the first time I’ve seen magic that can heal that quickly. That’s not all, the magic you used to heal her fatigue too. You’re not as useless as you look.”
I don’t get it, that’s the healer’s weakest magic.
“It being my first time seeing it, I was surprised as well. I’ve heard about attribute assignment but to have magic that can cure abnormal conditions. As expected of Masamune-dono.”
“Isn’t that a healers job?”
“You really don’t know anything do you? If healers could use that much magic the world is beyond saving. Basically healers aren’t able to use any magic except the first magic they learn. But it’s nothing like a priest’s healing magic, it’s very ineffective. ”
First magic…. But I had two?
” Even a skilled healer getting to the degree of using attribute points is rare. Normally healers don’t even try to learn magic as two is usually the most you can do. That’s why healer is known as the weakest occupation.”
There was no need to spell it out. I think she’s the type of person who has lacked tact for a long time, does she not understand other’s pain? Being called the weakest is like a punch to the chest.
” Can you use any other magic? ”
” Well I can give a boost to attack and defense power but…”
I gave a simple explanation of the magic.
“Amazing. Wait that’s not [Odium Aura] is it?”
Sharon looked disappointed for some reason.
“Yeah that’s it.”
“You, that’s advanced magic! This is the first time I’ve heard of a healer being able to use advanced magic!”
While Toa had seen my status and was unsurprised, Sierra and Sharon were both shocked. On the other hand Nem was left out of the conversation completely.
” Something can be considered advanced magic even though it’s not attack magic? ”
” Well magic is ordered on a scale of magnitude and power. It’s not strange for that to be certified as advanced as not many people can use it.”
Well is still the weakest job, it’s not like I’ll be able to shoot flames or lightning in the future. It’s a fact that won’t change but somehow I felt a little lighter.
