A Chronometric Defect

125 ⧖ It's Probably Fine?

I sort of knew what to expect. I did, but.

I examine my Origin blades.

Yep, they got bigger. Because of course they did. I looked like a freakish thing before. Now?

Now I'm a blob of giant sharp blades. Ragh. I wanna go back to being a dragon.

I've consecutively consumed every Deification Token I could find. There's a few owned by creatures on other planets, but I haven't bothered them. It's only a few thousand tokens. The ones contained in stars? Downright countless. The fact I consumed so many and only changed so little is perhaps a blessing.

[EVOLUTION COMPLETED!]

Erm, I'm just floating in space. Thinking. Where did that come from?

Status, Lineage.

Lineage: Origin

Type: Void

You are the origin of Void.

Predictive Inscription:

Your next origin will likely be: Void.

It's not that. That's still broken.

Status, Name.

Name: Chronometric Dragon Void

Huh? I lost the 'God' part of my title? Not that I care, but still. My Origin ate 'God?' Reugh. Even metaphorically-speaking, that sounds incredibly bad.

Am I making the situation better or worse? It sounds worse.

If I keep going, will it eat 'Dragon' next?

...

I don't really have a choice, do I? I can either forever stay as this monstrosity, or see it through to the end. Even if I lose my name entirely and become 'Void,' I'll still force myself to remain a dragon.

Dragons! Never! Retreat!

I transfer to a nearby black hole. It's rather small, but it has way more tokens than any of the previous stars.

Black holes are like the universe's vacuums. Hraw, maybe I'm a living black hole. Hraha!

...

Bad joke. I do kinda look like one. Hra, are the blades my accretion disc? I look around. Reah, I guess it works.

I cast Devour on the tokens.

See, the appearance of a black hole isn't its real shape. The event horizon is only where light falls into its core. The core? It's the size of a point. My Devour easily covers the whole thing.

Which means the black hole vanishes.

[≈^Π|√||Ππ &Π#¶|≈|≈≥] ?????∆???∆

Reuhhhm. Did I just eat a black hole? Dang that's a lot of matter. More than I've eaten in my entire existence— many times over. 'Small' black hole, my ass. I should check my stats. No, no, I shouldn't. Let's keep going and check at the end.

There's an issue, though. If I eat the black holes in the centers of galaxies, I'll disturb the whole galaxy. That's no good. I need to test eating just the tokens and leaving the mass behind. I don't mind eating the non-galactic ones, though.

Rah... Maybe I can leave some bosons in the center and eat the rest of the black hole's matter? I'll test that and see if I can. Perhaps I'll use that boson trick from earlier to make a few bosons do the same work as an entire black hole. Then I can pretty much eat the center of the galaxy without worrying about gravity waves or accidentally throwing trillions of solar systems out into the endless expanse of space. Reah.

Then it dawns on me.

The absurdity!

Am I considering how I should go about devouring galaxies? Is this where I'm at? What kind of weird life is this? Someone tell me I'm in a coma and need to wake up.

I hear...

...

Nothing. Just the Void. Just me.

Reh, whatever.

I transfer to the next black hole.

I try to only consume the tokens. It works! Though, strangely, it looks a lot like I actually bit it.

Then I eat the black hole anyway, because why not?

My abilities always seem work when I want to get stronger in a specific manner. When I don't want to use 'em, though, I'm forced to use 'em. Every damn time. Might as well just use 'em.

Wait. Chronometric Fixation.

The pivot type; it was 'Evolution,' wasn't it?

Am I literally unable to stop evolving? Fated to evolve endlessly?

I smack my Origin-bladed head. I'm reminded of when I smacked my kaizen horns. It feels odd. Definitely stabbed myself.

Anyway, no wonder crazy keeps happening. I can't avoid my fate! A fate I chose by activating Chronometric Fixation at the exact moment Parasite was unsealing my lineage. If I didn't eat these tokens, perhaps— no. NO!

Are all the sins and virtues going to attack my planet? Or something worse? It's probably something worse.

Damn it.

I spin up many millions, billions of Devour-attached spells, plus an equal number of boson gravity well spells. They all target black holes from where I'm floating. These artificial gravity wells will of course pin the galactic center properly, but they must also prevent the formation of excessive gravity waves. A supermassive black hole suddenly vanishing is a serious cosmic event.

I test that it works, and it does, which means...

I release every single spell.

I eat.

I feel my body roil and struggle as my form changes and grows in strange ways. I don't have time to examine my newest oddities. I spin up even more spells, now greatly empowered by what I've eaten.

I'll protect them from everything.

From absolutely everything.

Even myself.

But if I'm Void...

Am I a thing?
