Chapter 1557 Straightforward Talk

1557  Straightforward Talk

"I'll give it some thought," Nicky responded, only to hear him say, "Take all the time you need."

At that moment, a knock echoed through the door, and a casually dressed young boy entered the office. "Doctor Jiang, I brought your favorite coffee."

Jiang Yang interjected, casting a glance at Nicky, "It's her favorite."

The boy's eyes brightened, "A girlfriend, finally?"

"You're catching on, Ron," Jiang Yang remarked, observing Nicky with surprise at their exchange.

Ron turned to her, "Hello, Miss. I'm Ron. I deliver coffee for Dr. Jiang every day," passing her a mug of coffee.

Nicky offered an awkward smile and accepted the drink.

"Now I understand why you ordered two coffees, doctor Jiang" Ron winked at Jiang Yang and handed him another mug. "I'm happy for you."

"You'd better let me be happy for you too," Jiang Yang countered, his gaze turning serious. "How's your preparation going for the university entrance exam?"

"It's going well, thanks to you," the boy replied cheerfully. "I won't disappoint you; don't worry."

"You better keep your word."

"I will."

"You can go now," Jiang Yang stated.

"Huh?" The boy caught on and flashed a cheeky smile, glancing at Nicky before turning back to Jiang Yang. "Got it. See you later, then."

"Don't reappear unless you've got a good result to show me," Jiang Yang commented.

"Then who would bring your daily dose of your favourite coffee, doctor Jiang?"

He glared at the boy, "Are you not leaving?"

The boy waved as he made his way to the door. "Got it, Dr. Jiang. I would not disturb your sweet time any more with your girlfriend," and he stepped out of the room.

Nicky noticed Jiang Yang, who had previously disliked this particular coffee, now sipping it with enjoyment. He hadn't been a fan of sweet, milk-infused coffee, yet the boy claimed to deliver it daily as Jiang Yang's favorite. Was it because of her?

"That boy doesn't seem like just a delivery guy," Nicky remarked.

"Hmm, you're right," Jiang Yang commented, continuing to savor his coffee.

She glanced at him, but he offered no more than brief responses to her queries.

"How are your parents?" she inquired.

"You can check on them yourself; they won't mind," Jiang Yang replied. Each response hinted that she remained the same to him.

Feeling that any conversation might take an awkward turn, she chose to remain silent under his gaze fixed on her as he enjoyed his coffee.

After a while, Song Meilin returned from the test, her assistant following closely behind.

"I hope my daughter didn't trouble you, Dr. Jiang," she commented, only to receive a glare from her daughter.

"Not at all. It was my pleasure to have her around," he replied.

"That's good to know. I thought she might create trouble, thinking I'm desperate to hook her up with you," she said, smiling pleasantly.

"Mom..."

"If that's the case, Mrs. Xi, I really appreciate your efforts. I would like to hook up with your daughter if she allows me to."

"You..."

"Why would I even object?" Song Meilin replied.

They both continued their conversation, completely ignoring Nicky, who couldn't even scold the two.

She stood up, "Mom, you seem to be completely all right. I will leave," and exited the office.

Song Meilin's assistant hurried after her, "Miss Nicky, let me take you to the car."

Song Meilin and Jiang Yang simply smiled.

"Dr. Jiang, I'll be straightforward," Song Meilin said.

"Please, go ahead," he replied.

"Are you still interested in getting back with my daughter?"

"I never lost interest in her in the first place," he replied. "I plan to pursue her again. But knowing her, it will take time."

"I hope whatever differences you had in the past, you two overcome them," she commented.

To this, he simply nodded. He was aware that Song Meilin was not informed about Xi Cheng's involvement in Lu Qiang's death, which was the reason he and Nicky had separated in the past. It had been a heavy burden to carry at that time, so instead of forcing themselves, separation seemed to be the better path.

-----

Jiang Yuyan and Lu Lijun arrived at the hotel's private lounge area, where a middle-aged man and a young woman eagerly awaited their presence.

The man rose from his cushioned chair to extend his greetings, saying, "President Lu."

Jiang Yuyan shook hands with him, stating, "Mister Hao, I believe we haven't kept you waiting for long."

"Not at all," the man replied with a sincere smile.

Jiang Yuyan then introduced the man beside her, saying, "He is Lu Lijun, the next president of Lu Corporations."

"Of course, I know him, President Lu," the man said as he shook hands with Lu Lijun. "Such a capable young man, just like President Lu Qiang. In such a short time, the entire business world is aware of your achievements in Lu Corporations. I am amazed."

Lu Lijun simply offered a polite nod.

Mister Hao then introduced the young woman next to him to Jiang Yuyan. Beautiful and dressed in a manner befitting her age, she radiated youthfulness with a touch of brightness, complemented by tasteful makeup on her pretty face. Her gaze following Lu Lijun's sight.

"President Lu, she is my daughter, Eliana. She has been abroad for her education and has now returned to help me with the business."

Jiang Yuyan looked at the young woman who greeted her, saying, "Good to meet you, President Lu."

Mister Hao continued, "President Lu, with this cooperation between both of our companies, I hope my daughter will learn something from you and become a formidable and respectable woman like you."

"She will do better, Mister Hao," Jiang Yuyan said, acknowledging that every father wished the best for their children.

Jiang Yuyan took a seat on the couch, with Lu Lijun beside her. Mister Hao and his daughter occupied the seats opposite them.

"Let's talk about our cooperation," Jiang Yuyan suggested.

As they sat, Eliana continued to look at Lu Lijun boldly, though he didn't even spare her a glance ever since he arrived.
