Chapter 45:
Dream World.
Light of Salvation Branch.
“I disagree!”
Olivia said solemnly, “Our Church is still weak. It’s not suitable for us to fight against another mysterious society!”
“I understand. I’ll just go alone!”
Lin bit her lip.
When she learned of her brother’s death, she had felt an emptiness in her heart. But now it was replaced by the burning flames of revenge.
If she had not been so deeply corrupted by life on the moon and lost her reason, she might have taken her brother with her!
“You can’t do that either. You’re the saintess of our church and an important fighting force.”
Olivia’s sigh seemed filled with helplessness. “We have destroyed the team sent by the Black Sun Cult. They will surely continue to send people. Dyat is a city blessed by our Lord. We can’t leave it to the cultists. We must fight for it and when the time comes we will have our revenge!”
“Besides… if your brother is still alive, of course it’s better to rescue him as soon as possible. But now we can wait until we are stronger before we take revenge!”
“Stronger … revenge” Lin’s eyes seemed to focus a little. “Thank you, Sister Olivia. I know what to do.”
“Sigh I hope I can convince her.”
Olivia looked at Lin’s back and shook her head bitterly.
She was well aware of how difficult it was to progress on the Mysterious Path!
There were no extraordinary powers in this world. Progress required deeper mystical knowledge, more spirituality and even blood sacrifice!
To obtain all this was accompanied by great difficulties and dangers.
Especially when they were on a mysterious path, it was even more difficult for them to maintain their own rationality and free will. It was full of difficulties.
…
Bang!
Lin shut the door to her room.
“Olivia, thank you. But I can’t wait any longer.”
She muttered to herself and opened the window.
Once the velvet curtains were drawn, she could see the desolate and dilapidated streets. The crimson moonlight streamed past like running water.
Lin’s expression was solemn as she began to pray: “I pray to the illusory spirit that wanders in the unknown, the absolute neutral existence, the silent observer.”
She continued to pray, but there was no answer.
That was normal. Such existences rarely responded to believers, and their responses often had terrible consequences.
Her Lord, though kinder, did not answer every prayer.
“It’s too late…”
Lin looked out the window. A crimson moon hung over the velvety dark sky.
It was like the most exquisite ruby, bright and glittering, maintaining the roundest ‘full moon’ shape.
“According to my calculations… 12 o’clock tonight is when the Crimson Moon is most active. It is also the most suitable time for the faithful to pray and communicate with each other in order to gain power”.
In other words, it was easier to attract the power of the terrifying being on the moon, or even the attention of the main body!
Lin looked at the clock on the wall. The hands had already reached 12 o’clock midnight.
“If a Beyonder wants to advance and gain more power, the easiest way is to gain the favour of the mysterious source on the path.”
“I don’t believe in the moon, but I will pray to the moon for strength …”
Lin had a physique that was easily influenced by the moon. Otherwise, she would not have lost control earlier.
Her original plan was to pray to the Spirit of falsehood at this Spiritual Number, and then rely on its protection to look directly at the Great Being on the Moon and receive the mysterious infusion and rapid improvement!
But this was doable. After all, she had done it before!
Of course, this process was extremely dangerous. If the Spirit of falsehood were watching the whole process, it would be much safer.
However, the Spirit of falsehood did not usually answer her prayers, and such a Spiritual Number might not happen even once a year!
“I …”
Lin’s body shook, but she still moved her feet firmly towards the window. She stared at the moon in the sky and knelt down halfway.
It had to be said that even though Aaron had preserved her free will, the way of this world was inclined towards corruption and madness.
No matter how normal a Beyonder was, they all had an extreme side!
Lin’s eyes gradually turned crimson. Her thoughts kept wandering, as if she had arrived above the clouds, embracing the sky and wanting to kiss the moon.
Under her gaze, an ancient tree of flesh and blood suddenly grew on the crimson moon.
It was as if it was made of countless flesh and blood, soaked in blood. Each forked branch was pierced with internal organs, eyeballs, intestines and other sacrifices.
“How beautiful…”
Lin stared at the mother tree of flesh and blood and felt a beauty that transcended reason!
Every branch and every line of it seemed to be divided in the golden ratio, surpassing even the narrow knowledge of human beings. Every race and every life would be intoxicated by it, as if they had seen the most exquisite work of art in the world!
It was a kind of beauty that transcended concepts!
The intoxication on Lin’s face grew more and more intense.
At that moment, a murmur sounded in her ears. At first, it was very soft, but it quickly became piercing and sharp, like a woman whispering and countless women screaming madly.
“Ah!”
Lin’s ears immediately exploded and she fell to the ground screaming. The blood vessels around her ears swelled and wriggled like earthworms. Her hair stood up one by one and grew thicker, like a ball of countless black snakes wrapped around her.
“This pollution is completely different from the last time!”
Lin’s consciousness had begun to fragment, and only one thought remained.
Countless madness was automatically generated from her heart, wanting to turn her into a bloodthirsty monster to kill and conquer.
“Ah!”
A strange scream echoed through the department store.
“Oh no, it’s Lin!”
Olivia kicked open the door to Lin’s room in her pyjamas. At the sight, her pupils shrank to the size of a pin.
Without hesitation, she waved her hands and a multitude of invisible threads filled the air.
“Kill me!”
Lin, who had mostly mutated, had a bloodshot eye. She did not resist Olivia’s attack and said in a hoarse voice.
The threads bound her in place, but they could not suppress her mutation.
A black layer suddenly appeared on the surface of her expanding body.
It was a bug, as small as a virus. It lay on the threads and gnawed quickly.
Even though Lin was actively suppressing it, her instincts had already begun to attack!
Seizing the opportunity, Olivia quickly prepared a ritual:
“The spirit of falsehood that wanders in the unknown, the absolute neutral existence, the silent observer. Your believer prays for your gaze to be cast down and expel the contamination of your believer!”
The candlelight faded and nothing happened.
Olivia’s heart sank immediately.
“The Lord did not answer…”
