Chapter 37: Slade Wilson
Chapter 37: Slade Wilson
Fortunately, Miss Martian stopped bringing it up again and the two of them enjoyed breakfast.
After a while, the rest of the members began to wake up and ate with them as well.
When Rachel and Donna arrived, Kara seemed to have noticed something and squinted her eyes at the two.
However, after looking at them for a few seconds, she couldn’t see anything wrong so she gave up.
Lucas saw her expression and sighed in relief that he decided not to come inside them...else, Kara would definitely see some ‘evidence’ inside them with her x-ray vision.
Lucas waited for everyone to finish eating before directing them to the training room.
Robin had also come back to join the training.
“Wait in the training room for a bit. I’ll go and prepare something for your training.”
Lucas said as such then went to the basement to go look at the villains again.
He ignored everyone else and directly walked towards Deathstroke’s cell and opened the gate.
“...What’s the meaning of this?”
Slade asked when he saw the open door and the casual posture of Lucas.
Though he couldn’t see his expression from the vibrating head of his, he felt that it’s unwise to try and escape.
“Come out. I need you to train the kids in combat training.”
Slade frowned when he heard that.
This guy wanted to use me as a whetstone?
He chuckled at the thought.
“Are you not afraid I will kill them?”
“As long as I’m here, you won’t get the chance. Now hurry up. They’re all waiting.”
“...What’s in it for me?”
“Nothing.”
Slade’s face twitched at that.
What kind of a deal is this when he doesn’t gain anything from it?
Lucas smiled at him.
“You seem to be misunderstanding something. I’m not here to make a deal. This is an order.”
“...And what makes you think I’ll just listen to you?”
“Would it help if I add please?”
“No.”
“Too bad. You should’ve taken it.”
Lucas shrugged and took out his phone.
After tapping and swiping a few times, he showed the screen to Deathstroke.
“Grant Wilson. He’s your son, isn’t he?”
“...”
“No? How about this one? Rose Wilson. Oh, she’s quite cute.”
Lucas smiled teasingly at Slade. Actually, Rose was indeed considered beautiful with her long white hair and slender body. She’s also a candidate Lucas had for Young Justice but he’s still keeping an eye on her since her background is problematic.
The last thing Lucas wanted was a spy in his Young Justice team.
For this reason, he also hasn’t approached Artemis Crock who was the daughter of the Sportsmaster. Another villain without superpowers but is extremely deadly.
As for Aqualad? Lucas knew that he’s the son of another villain, the Black Manta, but since Aquaman vouched for him already, Lucas didn’t refuse.
Slade glared at Lucas quietly but didn’t lash out or shout at him. Instead, his entire body was oozing with killing intent.
“Well?”
“...Fine.”
Lucas smiled when he saw Slade nod.
He gestured for him to follow behind and they entered a room where his weapons were stored.
Slade quietly took the weapons and approached Lucas.
Lucas pretended to daze off for a second and sure enough, Slade acted quickly and slashed his katana at him!
However, Lucas had already prepared for it and the blade simply passed through him.
Lucas smiled again at Slade.
“It’s useless. You can’t run away from me.”
Slade didn’t listen and tossed out a flash grenade.
Lucas just sighed and clenched his hands. Instantly, the light from the flash grenade was absorbed in his hands, creating a light ball around his fist.
This was actually a peculiar thing. When he had synchronized Raven’s powers, instead of gaining control of the shadows like her, he had gained control over the light.
If it was before, he wouldn’t be able to control light to such degree but...well, after last night, his synchronization rate with her had reached 100% already.
Lucas hasn’t tried to enter the ‘half-demon form’ like Raven yet though.
I wonder if it will become a half-angel form instead?
While thinking of such things, Lucas glanced at Deathstroke and swung his fist.
The light gathered on his fist shot out and pushed him to the wall.
Then, using hard light from Green Lantern’s abilities, he created metal cuffs that stuck him to the wall. He placed it around his limbs, his waist, then his neck.
“Do you really want me to do something to your children? You know I’m just choosing you as their sparring partner because I am too powerful for them to train with. Also, I’m lazy as well. But ultimately, I don’t really need you that much.”
Slade gritted his teeth as he glared at Lucas before sighing.
“Alright fine...I’ll be your damn whetstone.”
“Good.”
Lucas waved his hand and the hard light metal cuffs were removed.
As they walked outside, Lucas spoke to him.
“You know, I actually think you’re one of the ‘better’ bad guys. I mean, compared to those other psychopaths down there. Have you never thought of using your abilities for good?”
“...I’m a mercenary. I do what I’m paid to do.”
“How about you be a part-time trainer? I’ll even pay you.”
“Deal!”
“...”
Lucas was a bit taken aback by his fast reply.
“But there’s a condition.”
“What?”
“My daughter. Rose. I want you to include her in this team of yours.”
“Huh?”
Lucas raised a brow and looked at Slade in confusion.
Wasn’t he mad that I was teasing him earlier about his daughter? And now he wants to send her to me?
“What about your son? Grant?”
“...He’s no longer my son. That prick had gone insane and obsessed with killing.”
“Don’t you love to kill as well?”
“I’m different. I kill because it’s my job. He’s doing it for sport.”
“I see.”
Lucas nodded in understanding.
In other words, Slade is the type of father who disregards the son and dotes on his daughter.
“But are you sure about sending your daughter here?”
“Since I have betrayed the Injustice League, those bastards would start to make a move on my family. I’d rather her to be here where she’s safe instead of out there.”
“Injustice League huh? Which genius made up that name?”
“Joker, who else?”
Slade rolled his eyes and scoffed.
Lucas just laughed and shook his head.
Afterward, he placed his palm on Slade’s head.
“Don’t resist. This is just a mental seed. Just an insurance in case this is all just a ploy of yours. It won’t hinder you.”
“You…!”
“It’s either you or your daughter.”
“...Tsk. Fine.”
Slade clicked his tongue but nodded in the end. He knew that it would be hard for him to gain his trust in the end so he could only agree.
At least his daughter would be safe.
After placing the mental seed in Slade’s brain, Lucas stopped vibrating his head and showed him his real appearance.
When Slade saw his face, he frowned for a second then his eye widened in surprise.
“It’s you!? You actually didn’t die that day!?”
“Yep. Lucas Wayne, in the flesh.”
Slade went quiet for a few seconds. Suddenly, he drew his katana and just when Lucas thought he was about to attack again, Slade simply presented his katana to him.
“Can you please sign!?”
“...Hah?”
Lucas stumbled when he heard that.
What the heck!? You actually wanted an autograph!? I was about to blow your head!
“...You...you’re a fan!?”
“I...no. It’s my daughter. She’s a huge fan of yours. Later, I will pass on this katana to her anyway.”
“...”
Lucas was at a loss for words.
In the end, he used his heat vision to carve his signature at the side of the blade.
While they walked towards the training room, Lucas grumbled in his mind.
Your daughter is a fan of mine but why the hell is you a villain!?
Lucas sighed and opened the door to the training room.
“Alright, everyone. Let me introduce your sparring partner for today!”
All eyes turned to him.
When they saw the person following behind Lucas, everyone got into battle stances.
“Deathstroke!”
“Why is he here!?”
Lucas waved his hands to calm them down.
“Calm down, calm down. He’s going to be sparing with you guys today. From now on, he’ll be your close combat trainer.”
Robin was surprised to hear such a thing.
“What!? Uncle Luke, he’s Slade Wilson! He’s THE Deathstroke!”
“Yeah. He’s also a mercenary so I paid him to train you guys.”
“...Can he be trusted?”
Aqualad frowned and asked.
Lucas nodded and explained.
“I placed a mental seed in him so I will know if he has any ill intentions and explode his brain at any time.”
“...”
Everyone was silent at his explanation but Lucas just shrugged.
“Come on. Every other hero is busy saving the world. I can’t ask Batman, or Green Arrow, or Black Canary, or such to come here every day to teach you all combat. This guy is just chilling in our prison so might as well use him right?”
“Still…”
“Just accept it. Oh, and we’re going to have a new member soon. As part of the deal, his daughter will become your new teammate now.”
Hearing that, Raven felt a bad feeling in her heart.
“...Daughter?”
“Uhh, yeah. Since Slade had turned to us, the Injustice League would make a move on his family so he asked to let his daughter Rose join in.”
Kara frowned and sent a glare at Lucas.
“You didn’t agree because she’s cute, right?”
“It’s not like that!”
“Hmmmm…”
Kara didn’t believe him at all.
Lucas felt the conversation had turned in a weird direction so he coughed to clear his throat then went back to the point.
“Anyway. He’ll be training you all now. Slade.”
Slade nodded and unsheathed his katana with one hand. He stretched his other hand to them and beckoned them with his finger.
“Come.”
Seeing such provocation, the others were angered and started to attack.
Speedy, who had not said much since a while ago, was the first to attack with his arrow.
The rest soon followed with their attacks.
Lucas watched their battle for a while before taking his leave.
Since he had placed a mental seed in Slade’s head, he could still see their battle whenever he wanted.
Right now, Lucas decided to go and fetch Slade’s daughter.
