Chapter 18: A New Friend
Nyanko Sakura wandered through the abandoned streets, her new pull basket making it easier to carry her supplies. The day was growing darker, and she needed to find a place to rest for the night. Her thoughts were still preoccupied with the earlier battle, but she knew she had to stay alert.
As she walked, she noticed a small alleyway that seemed less exposed than the main street. "This might be a good spot to rest," she thought, her ears perking up at the sound of rustling nearby. She cautiously approached the alley, her eyes scanning for any signs of danger.
Suddenly, a soft meow echoed through the alley. Sakura's heart skipped a beat as she saw a small, fluffy cat emerge from the shadows. The cat had sleek black fur and bright green eyes that seemed to glow in the dim light.
"A cat?" Sakura whispered, her curiosity piqued. The cat approached her slowly, its movements cautious but not fearful. It meowed again, and Sakura felt an unexpected sense of comfort. "Hello there," she said softly, extending her hand.
The cat sniffed her hand and then rubbed its head against her fingers, purring softly. Sakura smiled, her tension easing a little. "You’re friendly, aren't you?" she murmured. She picked up the cat gently and held it close, feeling its warmth against her chest.
Sakura decided to take a break in the alley. She sat down and unpacked some of her supplies, sharing a bit of her food with the cat. The cat ate eagerly, its tail swishing contentedly. "I guess we're both trying to survive," Sakura said, watching the cat eat.
As she rested, the cat began to explore the alley, its movements graceful and precise. It seemed to know its way around the urban landscape. Sakura watched it with interest, wondering how it had managed to survive in this harsh world.
The cat returned to her side and meowed again, as if trying to communicate. Sakura tilted her head, listening intently. The cat led her to a small nook in the alley, where it had a collection of items scraps of cloth, pieces of wood, and other useful materials.
"Did you collect all this?" Sakura asked, amazed. The cat purred and nudged a piece of cloth towards her. Sakura picked it up, realizing that the cat was showing her something. "You’re trying to teach me, aren’t you?" she said with a smile.
With the cat's guidance, Sakura began to understand the basics of crafting. The cat showed her how to make simple tools and repairs using the materials it had gathered. Sakura's instincts and agility made her a quick learner, and soon she had crafted a few basic items that would help her on her journey.
As the night grew darker, Sakura found a safer spot to rest in the alley, the cat curled up beside her. She felt a sense of companionship she hadn’t felt since arriving in this strange world. "Thank you," she whispered to the cat. "I’ll call you Kuro."
Kuro purred softly in response, its green eyes closing as it settled into sleep. Sakura stroked its fur gently, feeling a glimmer of hope. With Kuro by her side, she felt a little less alone in this vast, dangerous world. She closed her eyes, allowing herself to rest, knowing that tomorrow would bring new challenges, but also new possibilities.
