Chapter 34- Confession to Kaori!
The Expunging Needles are the injection that the Humanity Vanguard Organisation uses in order to maintain the secrecy of their work.
These needles come in variations of what period of time they could erase from a person. From one day to up to one year, these medicines can erase one's memory cleanly without any side effects.
Kaori hasn't used these much since the mission she partakes, requires the complete annihilation of the vicinity. But it didn't mean she doubted the exemplary invention that humankind has developed over years.
But right now, upon hearing Kei's words which one way or another tells that he remembers Kaori's confession, makes her think whether she overestimated those Memory Erasers.
Or maybe her brother didn't inject Kei in the first place?
That would be disastrous!
She has to do something! Something like killing herself? And also Kei along the way so he doesn't remember such an embarrassing confession and in the afterlife, he could be with her?
'No, I can't. I can't kill Kei, rather it's best to clear things properly… '
Determining her resolve, Kaori gulped hard before she mustered courage and stutter her words out.
"W-wh-who was it, Kei?"
Kaori's stiff voice which was jerking along the way, didn't go noticed by Kei since he was already occupied with his stuffy thoughts.
Sighing, he leaned back on the couch before replying in a solemn tone.
"She's a classmate of mine. Not someone I know for a long time but has become close to me recently."
Kei was not sure why he was telling this to Kaori despite knowing that she loves him. He might be a little insensitive here but other than Kaori, he couldn't ask anyone.
Well, of course not the dense protagonist sleeping beside him.
"So what was your response?"
Kaori became a lot composed upon realizing that Kei doesn't remember the event of the bastard heir of Kamazaki. But now her mind was unsettled with this unexpected piece of news she heard from Kei.
Kaori had a rough idea of who this girl might be as per what she heard from Sayaka, but she wanted to hear Kei's worries first.
"I rejected her."
The reason for his distress. The cause of his troubles was the reaction he received from Karen, when Kei rejected her proposal. She tried to ask him the reason and what she could do to make him love her, but Kei didn't pay any mind to it.
Just like a sore loser, he left her house wordlessly and decided to run away from reality which threatens him more than anything he has came across until now.
Kaori couldn't be more pleased to know that he rejected the girl who dared to grow her fangs toward her innocent Kei. But looking downcast expression, she suppressed her elation and asked in a low whisper.
"You didn't like her…or was it something else?"
Glancing at Kaori for once, he could see her concern and decided to tell her everything when it's already come to it.
"More like, I don't know how to feel about it. Like, I do like her but we just have met for some days. I am not sure what she likes about me but whatever it is, I fear what if one day she founds an alternative? You know, I don't make relations so casually but when I do, I want that person to be equally invested in me. And this all dating and relationship thingy just… just scares me out."
Kaori was stunned upon hearing so many things from Kei for the first time. He always preferred to keep things to himself so she never expected him to come out of his shell so suddenly.
But she didn't unheard a single word he spoke and understood his concern. The anxiety in his voice, the emotions he was going through, she comprehended it all.
With a warm smile spreading on her lips, Kaori extended her hand and kept it on his much to the latter's surprise.
"You know Kei, you are being harsh to yourself and also the person you just told me about?"
Blinking in perplexion, Kei sobered up from his reverie as he turned toward his friend.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean exactly what you heard, Kei. You are just running away from her because you fear getting hurt, but what if, you are wrong about this whole equation? What if, someone actually loves you and wants you to believe in them? Someone who doesn't love any temporary part of you but just your existence makes them feel safe? I think you should reconsider your view on this whole relationship thingy. "
______________…
A/N: - Kaori will help him close the gap he has created in order to not repeat the same mistake. She would make him know the feeling of love and allow himself to get loved.
In a few words, she would push him to create a harem unintentionally.
Muahahaha.
