Unforeseen circumstances 11(2)
Five minutes later, the rescue was over.
The plump man let out a wail, collapsing onto the carpet, his entire body drenched in sweat as if he had just taken a bath. Gasping for breath, he felt as though half his life had slipped away. "Good thing this kid's a beast. If he were human, I couldn't have saved him."
During the rescue, the man had already introduced himself. His name was Han Yingjun, but everyone called him Fatty Jun. Four years ago, he awakened with the talent of [Healing], serial number: 45.
Fatty Jun's parents had passed away early, and he was raised by his aunt. After her death, the high school graduate didn’t amount to much and inherited his aunt’s inn, which he boldly transformed into a love hotel.
Qing Ling squatted down to check Wang Zikai's pulse, then instructed Gao Yang, "Clean up the scene. I have some questions for this dead fat man."
"Heh, no need to be so formal. Just call me Jun Fat," Han chuckled.
Qing Ling stared at him, "How did you know what happened in the room?"
Startled, Fatty Jun quickly forced a smile. "Hehe, well... I had cameras and bugs installed in the room..."
Before he could finish, a Tang blade swiftly pressed against his triple chin.
Fatty Jun screamed, "Sister, spare me! At least let me explain!"
"Ten seconds."
"First off, I definitely didn’t put cameras in the bathroom! I have my limits!" He wiped the sweat off his chubby face, "And besides, I didn’t install those cameras to satisfy any perverse desires. I'm not that low..."
"Get to the point."
"Aren’t you curious?" Fatty Jun nervously pushed the blade away from his throat. "What are these beasts really like when no one's watching?"
"Shing." The Tang blade vanished from Qing Ling's hand. "You’ve been observing them?"
"Yes! Ever since I awakened, my whole worldview has been shattered—blew my mind! After coming to terms with it, I started thinking... Do these beasts really pretend to be human 24/7?"
"I can understand the Lost Ones. They’re so dumb they fool even themselves. But the others? Are they really playing house with us every day? Why would they bother?" Fatty Jun glanced at Gao Yang. "Aren’t you curious?"
"I’ve only been awakened for three days. I haven’t thought that far yet," Gao Yang replied while mopping the floor.
"On one hand, I installed cameras to see what these beasts are like in private," Fatty Jun continued, his face showing disappointment. "But to my surprise, these guys even stay in character when no one’s watching. They mimic all our mundane human activities."
Gao Yang and Qing Ling fell into deep thought.
"On the other hand, I’ve been searching for humans," Fatty Jun sighed. "The friend who helped me awaken died, and I’ve been alone for years. Now that I’ve finally found you two, I’m so excited, so happy..."
He spread his arms, intending to hug Qing Ling.
Under her cold death stare, he quickly turned and hugged Gao Yang instead. "I'm just so happy, man... I thought I was going to die alone..."
Fatty Jun was so overwhelmed with emotion that he actually began to cry. "Brother, my heart is heavy... Every day I wake up and have to act. Three years, and then another three years... when will it end?"
Gao Yang, not good at comforting others, awkwardly patted Jun’s shoulder. "There, there... it’s okay, it’s okay."
*Knock, knock, knock—* Suddenly, a knock echoed from the door.
For a moment, everyone went silent. Gao Yang and Qing Ling turned to Fatty Jun, who looked equally puzzled and shook his head.
Qing Ling exchanged a glance with Gao Yang, quietly drawing out her Tang blade.
Gao Yang nodded, quickly standing up and approaching the door. He shouted, "Who’s there?"
"Housekeeping," came a woman’s voice from the other side.
"Housekeeping?"
"Isn’t 501 checked out?"
"No, you must be mistaken."
"Let me check again."
Fatty Jun came up behind Gao Yang, patting him on the shoulder. "Don’t worry, it’s Aunt He. I hired her as the cleaner. Her mind’s not what it used to be."
"Oh... sorry, it’s 401, my mistake, hehe," came Aunt He's apologetic voice from outside the door.
"No problem," Gao Yang replied, but a sudden chill ran down his spine.
In a flash, he turned and lunged at Fatty Jun. "Move!"
