Chapter 36 – Fifth day 01.
[Chapter Size: 1700 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
Snape lingered by the lake for a while longer, until, seeing the night approaching, he finally returned to Hogwarts. He entered the castle as it grew dark.
Meanwhile, in a corner of Slytherin, Andromeda sat silently in front of the fireplace in the seventh-year common room, engrossed in a book. There were a few students who hadn't gone to the communal hall for their meal.
"Andromeda!" She was interrupted as she looked to the side and saw Bellatrix approaching with an unfriendly expression.
"Bela?" Andromeda was surprised to see her sister coming in that manner, seemingly upset about something.
"We need to talk!" she said, turning back to the students near the fireplace, all of whom looked cautiously at her.
"You, get out of here!" She commanded, and everyone immediately stood up regardless of age; no one wanted to go against this woman.
"What is it, Bela? Can't you see I'm studying?" Andromeda immediately complained.
"I want to understand some things, sister..." Bellatrix said.
"Speak..." Andromeda looked at her sister with a mocking face, assuming she would talk about blood purity and how they are superior to others.
"I heard some of our classmates joking that you were getting involved with a half-blood... what's his name?" she asked, not remembering, since Snape was such a minor existence that she barely cared to look at him, although she hadn't even encountered him this year yet.
"Who?" Andromeda was confused, as she wasn't involved with anyone, besides having flirted with a boy who ended up charmed.
"The half-blood from Slytherin!" Bela exclaimed, and Andromeda finally realized who it was.
"Snape?" She exclaimed in surprise. "What about him, you're not interested in him, are you?" Andromeda was almost horrified at the thought of Bela being interested in the same man she was flirting with.
Andromeda's question completely disconcerted Bela, who looked at her sister, dazed. "What are you implying, of course I'm not interested in a half-blood, you fool!" She shouted at her sister.
"Phew... that's a relief..." Andromeda said, ignoring the fact that her sister was so furious with that comment.
But Bellatrix saw this and seemed even more irritated with her. "You fool, don't try to dodge the subject!" She exclaimed, and Andromeda looked at her, but didn't seem the least bit bothered by her enraged sister.
"What do you want, Bellatrix, I like a boy, I don't care if he's a half-blood! It was love at first sight!" She spoke firmly, though making a love-struck face as she spoke of liking Snape.
Bellatrix was speechless, making a strange face at her sister's comment. "You can't be serious..." She murmured, growing angry.
"I don't care if you will be angry with me, Bela, as soon as he asks me out, we'll get to know each other and who knows... build a future together!" She said, placing her hand on her cheeks and making a maidenly expression.
"Andromeda... you know that if our grandmother heard this, you would be out of our house immediately..." Bellatrix spoke in a tone mixed with disbelief and anger.
"I don't care what you think... Now I'm leaving. Goodbye, Bela!" Andromeda simply walked away, turning her back on her sister as she continued on her way out, not caring about her sister standing there, enraged. Andromeda was not afraid of Bela, and she knew her elder sister wouldn't do anything to her.
"If you won't listen to me... Andromeda... I will go after this Snape..." Bellatrix murmured angrily, wanting to avenge this guy who seemed to be using a love potion on her sister.
Snape had left the common room a little before Andromeda entered, looking for himself, while he headed back to his room at that moment.
He passed the entrance and found it odd that the house common room was empty at this time, even Bellatrix was no longer there; he simply shrugged it off and continued on his way to his room.
Then going to rest, the next day he woke up again to attend his last classes of the week.
He went to the common room after his practice while eating, some people seemed to murmur as they looked, which he didn't care about again.
No one bothered him until it was time to head to Potions class early in the morning. He entered the classroom alone, while only a few students were already there.
"Hello Snape, how are you?" Professor Slughorn greeted him.
"I'm well, thank you for asking," Snape replied.
He settled quietly at his desk as other students arrived. That odd Ravenclaw student, Gilderoy Lockhart, was about to approach Snape again, but Lucinda intervened before he could get close and sat next to Snape, greeting him with a smile: "Hello, Snape!" she said, and Snape nodded.
He turned his attention to the books as the professor began the class. "Well, let's start by reviewing last session," Professor Slughorn assigned the same task as on Tuesday to refine the potions made.
Snape wasn't very interested in that, so he opened his book and began to read calmly, focusing on something other than the lesson, even though the book he was reading was his potion notes, trying to find new formulas and effects. After all, he needed money.
This generated a doubt at one point, and when he saw the professor approaching him, he had an idea. "Professor, may I ask a question?" he inquired.
Slughorn nodded: "Of course, my young man. What can I help you with?" he asked.
"I'm looking for a specific effect from this plant... I'm wondering if it contains minoxidil in its substance and if I can extract it," Snape spoke calmly.
Slughorn appeared thoughtful about this. "Minoxidil... I'm trying to remember what that is..." he murmured thoughtfully. "Ah, now I remember! It's a substance almost not used in the magical world... it's the Muggles who use it," he commented.
"Yes, I was unsure, but this book doesn't mention that fact and I remember having read about it a few years ago while reading about the plant... in the second year," Snape commented.
"Yes, it does contain that substance, but it's extremely difficult to obtain, growing near areas like Acromantula nests, I hope you're planning to buy them and not collect them..." Slughorn commented, and Snape nodded.
Slughorn looked at him for a while and nodded as well while Lucinda still tried to make her potion next to him.
'Then I will have to visit the Forbidden Forest once again...' he murmured inwardly, after all, he had some plans to make money and would do it with potions and had an idea of how to make good easy money.
Slughorn had not yet left the table and returned to Snape. "May I see how your potion is coming along?" he asked, seeing that Snape had not even started, not that he was angry about it, as the boy had shown mastery in potion making.
Snape then turned on his cauldron and began the process, adding ingredient after ingredient after his cauldron heated to a certain degree and stirred until the potion was completely and impeccably made as before.
"Very well, I have no comments, Snape, you continue to do well as always," he said and turned his attention to the rest of the class.
"Snape, can you help me?" Lucinda asked next to him, requesting his help, and he nodded as the class continued until it finally ended and the next class was before noon.
After bidding the professor farewell, he went to the castle's glass greenhouses while accompanied by Lucinda. Greengrass was also there, glancing at him now and then along the way, but those were quick looks while he maintained a firm and serious face, despite the girl next to him trying to start a conversation.
The class in the greenhouse, Herbology, was also calm, without many incidents, as he studied some simple plants and the teacher asked some questions to Snape, who answered perfectly, earning some points with her and finding it brilliant.
Although she was a close friend of Minerva and knew how the boy and the transfiguration teacher had argued in recent days, Pomona Sprout still liked the boy, as he was unobtrusive and very participative when asked.
After class, Snape had the afternoon free, heading once again to the castle's kitchen to dine with the house elves and using the afternoon to read in the restricted section, gathering more information. Over the next few days, he planned to test some basic improvements better than the accounts he had heard, potentially even creating some new forms of magic in a few months to years.
He remained in the library until nightfall and finally went to the common room to eat, silently amid the stares he was receiving, and decided to return to his room earlier than usual, as his weekend would start in a few hours and he planned to make the most of it. Snape had no plans to go to Hogsmeade with the invitations from Lucinda and that Black girl, or like the other students, since he intended to use this time to collect the herbs he had researched and brew potions.
He even considered going into the Muggle world; however, since he had sent a letter demanding some basic things and needed money at the moment, he opted to stay at the school, creating potions. As Snape left, some Slytherin students looked at him... "Are we going to get him this weekend?" one of them asked.
"Yes! He'll pay for everything he's been doing, that half-blood!" another exclaimed.
"I can't wait, that idiot had the nerve to hit me and Lucius." This was the prefect who had attacked Snape and had been beaten. Many seventh-year students were still furious with him, after learning what happened with young Black and another member of a prominent family. Although it was Bellatrix who caused the last injury, they still blamed Snape and were displeased to hear how the boy had his testicles kicked, sending him straight to the infirmary with Miss Penelope having to use some potions that fixed broken eggs.
The same could be said of the Gryffindor students, who planned to seek revenge after he had sent four students from their house to the infirmary, who still remained itchy, missing the entire second week of classes at Hogwarts.
